  • Re: You Know your a Great Big Sea Fan WHEN......

Ah, yes, that IS part of the tune of ''Whisky, You're the Devil'' in ''Jakey's Gin,'' isn't it?Looking at this thread, though, I think I could healthily (is that a word?) ramp up my fandom at least another notch or two - I don't have a GBS ringtone, and nor do I even have a poster of the guys on my wall! The latter I

  • Re: King Alan

Although I detest *Taming of the Shrew*, I *can* see Alan as Petruchio.  I've not seen ''Once Upon a Mattress,'' though.  *Much Ado About Nothing* is my next Shakespeare play to read, though.  Does anyone here like Goldsmith's *She Stoops to Conquer*? Because I can really picture Alan playing Mr. Hardcastle.  :-

Or, you rack your brains thinking of songs that the guys should sing WAY more than is healthy! How does everyone like the idea of GBS singing ''Whisky, You're the Devil''? I believe they're all of Irish descent!

  • Re: Russell Crowe's new movie "Rob Hood" - First Look / Alan Doyle

How much does Allan A'Dayle get to sing in this film? Does anyone know? I too am getting a *Kingdom of Heaven* feeling here.  :-) Of course, that won't be anything compared to what I'll be feeling if William the Conqueror's men make any appearances...

  • Re: King Alan

I'd love to get to meet Alan someday. :-D ''Mother's Cross'' is the song? I'll have to look it up. Now, does anyone know how much the swashbuckling minstrel will get to sing? Somehow, I haven't come across a solid answer to this question. And DOES anyone have any ideas for other roles that Alan should play? I've already

  • Re: Today is my Great Big (10 Year) Anniversary!

Isn't it great how we all came to being GBS fans, though we come from vastly different places and generations? :-DI've been a fan since I was 12, and I just had to know more about that cool-sounding Canadian band who made that wonderful song ''Ordinary Day'' - the one that's cheered me up on countless occasions.  Then it just

  • Re: King Alan

I suddenly have an image of Alan as Sir Toby in Twelfth Night.  Wouldn't that be splendid? :-D And, Krista, I promise I will be along to join the Alan fan club on Facebook asap! :-)See, Viola is one of my dream roles to play, but man oh man, I'd love to play Olivia if Alan were playing Sir Toby!

I'm cheesed about the summary because England hasn't had a Norman invasion since 1066 A.D. (as the tour bus driver on my London tour pointed out, ''This was the last time our country succumbed to foreign domination''), and that was about five generations before Robin Hood's time.  What's fact and what's legend about

  • Re: What are you reading now?

Yeah, I'd have to say that my favourite Margaret Atwood is a toss-up between *Cat's Eye* and *The Blind Assassin.*  Until I saw the movie *Mean Girls*, I'd never seen anyone do such a fantastic job of capturing adolescent girls at their worst.  And I adored the way the three stories worked together in *The Blind Assassin.*

Exactly - and if this summary is true, then we can at long last hold a funeral for historical accuracy.  I feel the same way about this possibility that I did about the RUINING of *Beowulf* in the films of 2005 and 2007 - ''If that's the story that people want to tell, then they should write their own! Don't go messing with those stories
