Columbine: CodCheeks:If you slice beets really thin with a mandolin (the kind you slice with, not play music on) and coat them with oil, you can bake them and make them into beet chips. Now that sounds like a ''mandolin'' I could play!  Is that what they're usually called?  Can you post a link to a picture of one?  I think

  • Re: to beard or not to beard..

It must have been shave your beard day on the GBS bus.  Alan was very scruffy at the Rhythm & Roots show on 9/6, but I wouldn't call it a beard.  Sean was clean shaven.

  • Re: Thoughts on kids ear protection at shows

At age 2 and 5 we started bringing the kids to concerts.  We used foam ear plugs, but found that they were a little too big for the kids small ears.  They actually fell out of the 2 year olds ears all the time, and we were afraid of hurting her ear by jamming them in too far.  We went to the muffs and they work out much better.

MikeB:During the show Privett told the audience to burn copies of their new CD, Nothing Rhymes With Woman, and give them to friends to get more people at their shows - first time I can remember a band coming out and saying this well known fact - bands make more money playing concerts (even at small venues) then selling CDs. I often wonder how

  • Re: Today is my Great Big (10 Year) Anniversary!

Somehow I managed to avoid GBS for years.  Sometimes it kills me to think about it.  4 trips to Newfoundland, I was a Gaelic Storm fan, and GBS even played a free concert minutes from my home one year.  I never found out about them until 1 ½ years ago.  Someone bought me a CD and said you have GOT to listen to this!

  • Re: Alan to play role in Russell Crowe movie

Having kids, I have always despised the amount of marketing that goes along with action films.  Toys, clothes, backpacks, Happy Meals it never ends.  But today I realized, does this mean I will be able to get a little tights-wearing, lute-playing action figure of Alan next Spring?
