I will never forget the encore at this show - the boys came back on stage and shushed the crowd. Proceeded to sing 'Old Brown's Daughter' from the sweet spot, with no mics. It was amazing! Great venue for the greatest band!

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was my second GBS show and I thought it was actually quite good. It was a long time ago so I don't really remember too much about it. However, I remember that the band had been in a bus accident that day. They played well despite the crash. We had box seats, stage Bob. I also remember that they played "Old Brown's Daughter" at they end of the concert during the encore and we all had to be quiet for it.
Overall, quite a good show!

It being Valentine's Day, I brought a lovely box of truffles for the boys. Handed it to Allen at the opening of the second half of the show. Allen said thanks and kissed my hand. Swoon! Great show except for the idiot who hurled a license plate at the stage. Nearly took Murray's head off.

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was my first time at a Great Big Sea concert... As the matter of fact, I had not even heard of the band until about 2 hours before the show... I was in New York City for a trade show. It was a Saturday and after working, I stopped by my favorite Irish Pub, Patrick Conways on 43rd, right next to Grand Central Treminal. While I was nursing my pint of Harp, these three guys came in. They seem to be my age, mid to late 40s. They reminded very much of me with my friends... laughing a lot and having fun... I heard them mention a show that was 7:30... The had one and a half hours and were planning on going to their favorite bars along the way. I struck up a conversation and asked what concert they were going to see... They told me "Great Big Sea"... That was the first time I have heard that wonderful name.. They informed me of their music... I knew it was for me... I asked if they thought any tickets would be available... They told me that the tickets had been on sale a while and doubted that any good seats were left, but I should go to the box office and find out... It was not a long walk to Town Hall, so i decided to check it out... I got up to the window and asked, by chance if there was a single ticket available for the show... The guy said that by luck, the media had just turned in 9 tickets and I got 8th row center aisle... WOW and what a great seat and WHAT A SHOW!!!! I bought the CDs that Glenn had for sale... been hooked ever since... I went to the Warner Theater in DC in April '07.. Wolftrap August '08.. Rams Head Live in Baltimore October '08. Wolftrap August '09.. Upcoming in Easton, MD (only 75 miles from my frickin house) on May 4th and Wolftrap in August.... It has been fun being a fan of Great Big Sea!!!!

SHOW REVIEWS:
For me, this was the best of all the times I've seen the lads. I'd taken my sister, her daughter and her daughter's husband to see them as well. We're lucky enough to be one of the first to arrive and therefore get choicest seating - which for me is right in front of Bob, being a fiddler myself. From opening notes, I was on my feet pressed against the stage and only moved for beer or to try and get my lame duck family off their feet (I gave up quickly - forget them). I cannot adequately describe the sound of Bob's accordian coming out of those speakers - was definitely physical, and Alan looked down at me just then smiling - maybe he knew I was having a religious experience!! I went home unstable on me pins, hands red raw from clapping and hoarse in voice. I've seen them a number of times, and places, and the over 21 shows are best. I even saw Bob smile. Sublime....

Loved this show, we were 4th row Bob side. This was a special concert because it was my husband's first experience seeing Great Big Sea. We had recently married and I moved to Northern Virginia from Hamilton, Ontario. The show was awesome and my husband always reminices about Warner Theatre.

SHOW REVIEWS:
I took my friend to this concert, who'd been my boyfriend back when I was 15 (I'm a wee bit older now). He'd never seen or heard of them before, bless his heart. Poor lad watched me jump up and down, scream, yell, pump fist, sing and clapp for 2 hours. The good news is he's still dating me now! We next saw them at the Orpheum in Boston, where we could actually appreciate them, and John got a good feel of just how excellent the OKPer's are, and the BGS fans in general. As to the actual show on the Cape, not too bad and I am only being less than stellar because of the venue. I've been to the Medoly Tent and the Music Circus for GBS as well, and the sound is awful. Last one at the Circus, the sound was so distorted that I couldn't make out spoken words, sung words, or any of the delicate whistles or bass. Please don't play there anymore. sorry :-(

Darlene: What more can i say? It was fabulous! Bought 2 tickets, friend had family emergency, so it was only wee little me! BUT, when you attend ANY GBS concert you KNOW you're not alone! Dancing, singing, celebrating! Great Fun! Wore my HABS t-shirt, sat(or should i say DANCED) in 7th row, great view of the lads! Drove up from Lethbridge and back the same day! Now that's a fan! I was so early to the Casino i sat outside the "tent" and listened while the boys jammed. Heard old songs and even some from other artists like Midnight Oil! Enjoyed the "preshow" tremendously, was afraid to be a groupie so i didn't bother trying to get in. Thanks again boys! P.S I'll bring the wine to NFLD if only i knew where Bob lived!.......Darlene originally from PEI.........tah!
Dani: best concert I have seen since Pink Floyd! I met my man there and still together.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Vera: Sorry it took so long to get this review sorted and posted; this show was everything you'd want it to be and more. It was a private gig for about a thousand people from all across Canada and Rick Mercer was the MC with the amazing Great Big Sea providing the music. I'd been a fan, naturally, for years, but hadn't seen them live. They make you smile, sing, laugh, dance and feel glad to be alive, but that's not news for people who have seen them numerous times. This may sound strange but their incredible talent as musicians is almost secondary to their ability to cause otherwise quiet grownups to become happy kids again. Their reputation among their fellow musicians across Canada is a very postitive one and from what I read, they are overall fairly normal humans. I look forward to seeing them again sometime and also to Alan's writing. Surely there's some stories or books stuck in that brain that are waiting to land on paper.

Miranda: The boys played extremely well last night and were all looking great! They were so nice to stay after the show so long signing and taking pics with the fans!
Christine: I am so thankful that I was able to get into the show tonight from the no-ticket line up!! I even ditched my ball team just for the chance to be there(sorry guys!). It was such a fun, energetic show...I would never expect any less. It was so up-close and personal and I even got to meet Alan and Sean afterwards. Whoo hoo!! Thanks, guys!!All the guys did an amazing job and I love the new songs!! So proud to see such awesome Canadian talent!! :)
Brittney: Well first off I would like to say that the show was absolutely amazing last night. I would love to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the best night of my life! The performance was one of the best I've seen from you boys... and I have seen many shows! The fact that you took time to take my request for Gideon Brown, made my mom cry! After the show was over, we were surprised that the boys walked around to chat and drink with fans... you have no idea how much that means! Hopefully GBS will plan a tour in Canada for Fortunes Favor... I will be first in line for tickets!!! Thank you again... It was the best birthday present I could ask for! I <3 GBS!!

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was my 4th time seeing the band live. They get better each time. The crowd was so vast that even my small body could not squirm through the people. One of the Greatest shows I've ever been too. My friends and I enjoyed every last bit.
Great Job guys. Hope to see you again soon.
Bryan: WOW, best concert I have ever seen. It's so rare in this world of smoke and mirrors that you see a band that simply loves to perform and can laugh and accept what happens and work with. I have never seen a band get a crowd so involved, and I shouldn't be surprised. Great Big Sea has been entertaining for 15 years with their unique brand of Newfoundland Irish drinking songs mixed with rock. I've been telling myself that I have to go to their concert for years now...now I know I won't miss their concert when they roll through Ottawa.
Johnny: The live outdoor show was amazing. The energy was so high and I had an amazing time. Not an ounce of energy was wasted , and I kept wanting more.
Heather: This was my second time seeing GBS at Ottawa's Bluesfest and it was just amazing. Great energy, great vibe. Can't wait to see them again.
Belinda: Loved the show. My only regret is not coming earlier so I could duke out a spot closer. Your concert was my favorite of all concerts I have seen at the Blues Fest. Actually its one of my favorite concerts I've seen! I hope you come back to Ottawa sometime soon.
Teddy: I was floored by Great Big Sea's performance at Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest on Friday, July 11th, 2008. They were incredible, I was shocked to hear "Gallow's Pole" by Led Zeppelin, and I was also shocked to not hear any songs from The Hard and the Easy, as I love that album. I was right at the front of the 40,000 person crowd and even though I had a broken foot I still jumped up and down for all the songs that audience participation was crucial. Great Big Sea rocked and I hope they come through Ottawa again soon.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Justin: This was a fantastic show. I've seen the guys 6 times now, this was my third at Molson Amphitheatre. The whole show was incredible. Two full encores, including a new song (not on the new album or the pre-release bonus tracks) that i had never heard before. Features Bob, and is incredibly upbeat. Will definitely be a jewel of a future album.
Mariko: Thank you for an AMAZING show in Toronto last night. It was nothing short of fantastic. It made my night to see you (Alan) wave at me from behind the theatre before your show, you made my night!! Even though my tickets were in the 300 section, you waving at me paid for my ticket!! We now have tickets for you show on Oct. 24th, 2008 in Boston, MA & will make the 8hr drive that morning to see you play at the Orpheum!! Thanks for the best show EVER!! <3
Carol: The show was awsesome! My first time seeing GBS and my daughter's very first concert ever. We didn't sit down all night. We have 2 concert dvd's but they don't do justice at all to the atmosphere live! Really wish they had of played Donkey Riding though. Not to worry, the crowd sang it for us on the way out. lol!
Kim: BEST CONCERT EVER!!!!!!! it was so much fun and there was so much energy! i love Great Big Sea!!! They are seriously the best band EVER! Its been three days and my ears are still ringing, but i would relive that night in a heartbeat! i was on cloud nine ^_^ To sum up in one word: Breathtaking!!
Carla: I just got back from the show and the boys were, as always, amazing. The whole place was on their feet, dancing, clapping and singing from the second the band hit the stage.
Michelle: Saturdays show at the Molson Amp was only my 4th time seeing the boys and I was again amazed! Already getting ready to see them in Hamilton (where I am from). The Heat was nothing compared to how hot the show was, how hot the guys were and how smokin the music was! Awesome Night can't wait for the next "Kitchen Party".
Joey: This was the first time I seen GBS and I'll tell you right now I'll see them every time they come back. I've seen 30 plus shows from Metallica to Pink Floyd and every thing in between and this was by far the best "Party" I've ever been too. Me my two cousins a sister and a buddy partied all night. Great Job. One day I would love to party in your home province.
Michelle: Fabulous!!! I've seen GBS several times at smaller venues this was one of the biggest. Although, I love the smaller more intiment venues, GBS rocked it just like ROCK STARS!! as Alan said he felt. I only hope I made it on one of the videos that was being filmed. Had a Newfoundland flag near the back and waved it proud!! Just hope I didn't tick too many people off. Anyway guys the new album is fantastic and even better live!!!!

SHOW REVIEWS:
James: The show was phenomenal. The opening song was "Love me Tonight" and it was awesome I proposed on bended knee. I said to my girlfriend "Will you Love me Tonight and for the rest of our lives?" We danced and celebrated all night long. The band played nine new songs from their new CD "Fortune's Favour" and several of their greatest hits from years gone by including "Lukey","When I Am King", "Mari-Mac", "When I Am Up, I Can't Get Down", "Old Black Rum" and many more and we loved each and every song. The encore was spectacular as Great Big Sea brought back onto the stage previous artists that performed throughout the day. We loved the show and would definitely go see the band again and want to Thank Great Big Sea for making August 2nd 2008 a very special day that we will never ever forget.
Casey: All I can say is what a show. This was my 3rd and certainly favorite GBS show I've been to. I am from Montreal, so I usually have to drive quite a ways to see the guys, but it's always worth it. I've seen the live in Boston at the Orpheum theater, and for Grey Cup in Toronto. The show in Gander was the furthest I've gone, but would do it again in a heartbeat.
Floyd: My daughter turned 10 on Aug 4 and for her birthday she wanted to see a live concert. We bought tickets to the Gander Festival and for her birthday took her to see GBS as her first live show. On Saturday morning The family (me , my wife Jill, son Dylan(12), beagle Molly and the birthday girl Shelby, made the trek from Corner Brook to Gander and settled in for the show. Opening acts were very good and we were impressed with the Newfoundland focus. hey Rosetta were particuliary good- very tight sound and extremely mature. Then came the Sea. What a show. I was expecting maybe an hour but 2+hours later we were still being treated to an all out wall of energy. I have to thank you so much for making my daughters birthday so special. Her only complaint was that apparently her parents(us!) seem to embarrass her a little when we cut loose and were bouncing at the front of the stage. The show ,sound and lighting was all pro and the boys were fantastic. Allan, Sean, and Bob - From the Thomas family and Molly our Beagle, thanks and can't wait till next time!!!!!!!
Nick: Hi guys, Greetings from Scotland. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting on our recent trip to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Had a great time, fantastic gig at Gander. We were the folk front right, with the Tartan hats!! Anyway now on to the serious stuff-we saw GBS last year at Loch Ness with Runrig-shortened gig. This year we've made it to Gander to see you boys.Next year Runrig ply Scone Palace, Scotland,Saturdy 29th August AND ITS YOUR TURN TO COME BACK OVER HERE.please!!!! If not we'll settle for a Scotland tour. Loved the new Fortune's Favour. Long Lost Love, Company of Fools, Straight to Hell brilliant. Keep up the great workand Alan,Sean,Bob remember-keep the end of August 2009 free.
Jordan: This show was so excellent! I mean, I was expecting it to be awesome but you guys blew me away! Keep up the good work! Newfoundland loves you :)

SHOW REVIEWS:
Edgartown is very isolated - a small island off the coast of Massachusetts, so getting there wasn't easy. We took the ferry from the mainland, then a cab to the hotel, then another cab to the venue. That said, it was one of my recent favorite GBS experiences. Because of the remote location, we didn't see the usual masses of people, and it was general admission. It reminded me of "the old days" in Boston where GBS would play at small pubs (like the now-closed Phoenix), and you could find yourself standing next to one of the boys at the bar after the set. After the show, I understand there was an impromptu jam session in the parking lot, which we missed because I was worried we'd need to walk back to our hotel if we didn't grab the first taxi that came along! Trust me when I say I will never live THAT one down!

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was my third Great Big Sea show. At the same time it was my first Great Big Sea show outside. I had a blast. I went with a very good friend and was lucky enough to get away from the parish that night as well considering we had Mass in Cincinnati at 8:30 the next morning. I was back by 3:30 so I could make the Mass.
It was a great time. They have great music and never disappoint.
Brent: Your show in Akron, Ohio, gentlemen, was one of the highlights of my past 12 summers. I'll explain why. I was watching my son one night back in 1996. He was just a few months old and, try as I could, I could not get him to stop crying. It was very frustrating. Then, "Run Runaway" played on the radio. Honestly, my son looked up at me, smiled, and we danced to the song in the living room. He never cried again that night, and I became an instant GBS fan. When I saw the tour was coming to Akron, I booked a weekend for my son and I in an Akron hotel. We made the drive from Detroit and, that Saturday night, had a wonderful, wonderful time. The improv between songs was a riot; letting the audience sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a stitch; the entire night was magic. It was my son's first concert, and I'm glad it was GBS. Thank you so much for a wonderful 12 years. To 12 times 12 more!!!
Chris: OK, OK Im a little late but been travellin! Just wanted to say how cool the outdoor gig in Akron,OH was on Sat. Aug 16. First, I run into Alan at a minor league baseball game before the show. He asked me what I was doing in town and I told him " Im here to see YOU!" We talked hockey, baseball, and music for a half hour while watching the Akron Aeros and the New Briton Rock Cats!! How cool is that? Next, over to the gig. It really was a splendid setting with a full moon and cool temps. $5 to get in...WOW! Alan told me theyd play 75 minutes. Well, they must have lost track because the set went 110 minutes!! I thought seeing them in the Barrymore Theatre (Madison, WI)was fun but this was a great place for a gig. Sean even said what a great first time in Akron it was. One funny note about the show is Alan referencing Ann Arbor, MI in a clearly pro-Buckeye crowd. Lets just say it didnt go over well. Other than that, the Fortunes Favour songs rocked! Cant wait til Madison again. Thanks Alan for chillin with a school teacher from Milwaukee. It was a walk on the moon for me.

Mary: Excellent show, loved the new stuff live. There was enough of the older standards thrown in to satisfy . Not a whole lot of banter as GBS was closing the festival and the venue had a time constraint. But the guys never disappoint!
Alice: We have a friend who is a Newfoundlander and when we said we would see you at the fest, he went nuts, GBS, apparantly,is a national treasure. Now i see why. You guys were amazing, I love your sound and have bought four cd's since the fest. One i gave to our token Newfie friend. I love the hard and the easy and road rage, they are my favorite so far. I hope you tour in the southern PA/NJ area again soon..I checked, looks like if i want to see you i have to go to NY...Anyway, I think you guys were magnanamous and cant wait to see more of you..

Carol: Caught the show at the Outerland, Martha's Vineyard and it was great. Nothing like seeing a big band in small venue to endear their talents to a devoted T.O fan. Well done gentlemen, it was the best part of our stay on the island.
Matt: Great Big Sea played one of the most intimate settings I've seen in 11 years of shows. Last night on the island of Martha's Vineyard, Massacusetts the boys had a great time entertaining the crowd of about 300 people. The set leaned heavily on Fortune's Favor, and was well received by the audience.

Lee: A great start of the tour. The boys were in fine form, feeling frisky and Alan managed to almost crack himself up a couple of times.. A little more laid back set list from their last time in town, lots of material from the new CD (which I must admit I like better now that I've heard them live) - must be tough to keep all the people happy with a old/new songs - Sound mix was excellent for an outdoor venue, crowd energy good, c'mon back soon, boys! PS: An older gentlemen joined the band for the last song or two but was never introduced.. ??
Sandra: You guys Rock. Totally awesome concert. (only my 3rd concert to see you - but GREAT as always) Alan you are the KING! and yes you are freakin famous. Love the new CD we have them all. Sean always enjoy your singing and drumming. You looked to be having good time last night. Bob - always envious for your many musical talents. You guys just rock. Loved the show and look forward to seeing you again sometime. Live in Sarnia, Ontario - seen you at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre and in Point Edward at the last Riverfest they had. Both were great. Enjoy your tour.

Patty: Once more GBS Rocks London. The house was hopping to many of the old and new songs from F.F. Sean gave an awesome General Taylor as usual. They really brought down the house again. Hoping to see them on the FF tour in London for some RINK ROCK!!!!
Wicket: what a show. great big sea never fails to impress and entertain. Incredible audience participation, and an over the top performance from all the boys. I just bought tickets for the hamilton show in Nov. GBS proudly adds to Canadas proud tradition of producing some of the greatest music ever played.
James Reaney: Newfoundland's favourite sons paid homage to the Rock as they thrilled the grandstand crowd last night F ortune was running Great Big Sea's way at the Western Fair grandstand last night. There were 3,500 fans ready to cheer when the St. John's rockers paid tribute to the Rock -- and stand up to sing along with all the great big hits in the 110-minute show. "Everybody up in the house, last chance to dance," frontman Alan Doyle urged the crowd during the extended encores. Great Big Sea came back twice to "rant and roar like true Newfoundlanders" with several traditional tunes the crowd loved. There should be more Sea fun in 2009. "Look out for (us) in London about St. Patrick's Day. That might be a good time," Doyle announced late in the show to more cheers. Doyle is the chief cheerleader in the band and he had been urging the fans to move all night. "Let's get this party started. Let's get this party started," he shouted by the 50-minute mark during a rare lull. The fans in the seats on the track only seemed to sit down when Great Big Sea slowed it down. Late in the set, Walk on the Moon, a lovely ballad from its 2008 release, Fortune's Favour (Warner), caused a mass sitdown. It was fun to listen, the fans and band decided, but a lot more fun to stand up and jump along with Consequence Free, the romping Mari-Mac and the anthem, Ordinary Day, a terrific conclusion to main set. The band's core -- Doyle, Sean McCann and Bob Hallett -- still live, breathe and celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador. They have been around long enough to become TV stars in tourism commercials for their home province. There were times last night when all the happy fans waving their arms and the Newfoundland and Labrador flags lofted with pride made it look as if one of those commercials was being filmed at the grandstand. Hallett was in partying form on the fiddle and accordion and everything else all night. McCann, often the calming presence to balance Doyle's non-stop up, up, up, had his own salute for the crowd. "Good evening, London, Ontario. It's great to be back in your good graces," McCann said early. Later, he exchanged jokes about hockey and religion with Doyle until they both ran out of breath or one-liners. Joining the big three on Fortune's Favour and its tour are bassist and vocalist Murray Foster and drummer, vocalist and accordion wizard Kris MacFarlane. The Celtic boom may have silently sunk everywhere else but when MacFarlane and Hallett are pumping the accordions, it still has a beat made for dancing. Late in the encores, the band used the new album's closing track, Straight to Hell, to prepare for the night's final farewell. It was a nice touch because the opening track -- Love Me Tonight -- had been the right pick to get the fans' love flowing Great Big Sea's way at the show's start. Doyle's electric guitar appeared to give up the ghost during Straight to Hell, which kept the song from rocking the way it should. Great Big Sea made sure a traditional song about those ranting and roaring Newfoundlanders followed Straight to Hell. That was the cue for the night's last singalong. The first had been during When I'm Up (I Can't Get Down). Doyle made that song, the night's second, a good reason for some talk from the Rock. "Oh . . . sociable indeed," Doyle said after giving the crowd the thumbs up. After that, there was a romp through The Night Paddy Murphy Died and the grandstand kitchen party was on.
Darryl: Just a few comments on the show in London at the Western Fair. I have seen you guys about 6 times in Lonon and area and each time you put on a fantastic show. The show was a good mix of old songs and new music from the new disc. Keep up the great work boys and congrats on the 12 gold albums. You are "freakin famous" I look forward to seeing you guys again in our fair land.
Susan: Excellent Show as per usually we took my 3 yr old granddaughter who loves you guys( we think Shawn saw her she was wearing yellow headphones because we where in the forth row. But we want to thank ou guys for making her day she had a smile as big as her Mom's and sang right along with you. Thanks again
Hipster: OK, nothin' better than the GBS hangover, or AFTERBURN, as I call it. The boys really wow'ed the crowd at the Fair. The Only thing better than the performance, with all the usual jockularity, is the tip Allan squeaked out at the end about a St. Paddy's day show in London again. time to convert some more friends to the fan club!

Christina: Congratulations to those foul weather hardy Chicago music lovers who were fortunate enough to brave Newfoundland inspired rains at the Petrillo stage on Sept 13 to hear the Great Big Sea. I hope we showed those sons of sailors, settlers and sea captains that we have the right stuff here in Chicago and are worthy of another visit. Great harmonies, banter and virtuasity stormed the stage and rocked the park dispite the weather.
Estelle: Thank you guys so much for playing in Chicago, despite the terribly wet weather. It was my kids' first GBS experience, and now they can't stop talking about it. I know they'll be lifelong fans. :D
Dorothy: We waited in the rain for you. You made it worth the wait. Thank you for an awesome first GBS show.

Kristi: I just returned from the GBS show in Indianapolis. I just want to thank you guys for playing here again (3rd time!!!). Tonight's show was particularly fantastic. Everyone's vocals were right on. The instruments sounded great. And of course, the comedic banter between the guys was hilarious. I love the new album. The songs you played from it tonight sounded great. I've been a faithful follower since 1999 and just think the world of you guys! Please keep Indianapolis on your list of US stops! Fantastic job tonight!

Kate: I attended my first Great Big Sea concert at the Southern Theater in Columbus on September 17, 2008. I've been a fan for about two years now, since a friend had me listen to Rant & Roar with her. I went out and bought The Hard & the Easy the same week, and completed my collection by the end of 2006. I was delighted with Fortune's Favour, so as soon as I found out GBS was coming to Columbus, I had to buy tickets!

SHOW REVIEWS:
Great show as always. Full of amazing excitment and energy. Alan & Sean joked around often about their day in NYC. It sounds like they have so much fun in this Big beautifull City. The crowd just loved it whenever they mentioned New York City. All of their new songs off Fortunes Favour were awesome and the "oldies" were fantastic. Great mix of both new and old. There is nothing better then seeing the band in a general addmision arena. I had a spot along the railing 4 ft. from Alan. He just gives off so much energy that there is no way you can't feel the excitment. The whole band (especially Alan & Sean) work with the crowd very well. They get everyone involved and just make it a giant party. I had a special moment at the show when Alan handed me three guitar pics for a few children that were up on the railing with us. The three kids were 7,7 & 11 years old. Their arms were so short that Alan could not reach them. So he handed me the pics and gestured to the kids. Very cool. That is so typical of Alan. The kids were awesome too, they could barely see over the railing but were jumping around and singing right along with the boys. It is so great to see such young kids enjoying GBS music. Hopefully the band keeps playing in venues that allow young fans to see them play. Again, what a great show... John J. aka. Homerunking
Harold: Excellent show. I was at a bit of a disadvantage because I hadn't got around to buying Fortune's Favour yet so those song I heard for the first time. Generally, I like to know the songs before hand. This is the first show I went to that had reserved seating which frankly works against having a representative GBS experience. It kind of hems one in and is somewhat confining. On the other hand, my son who is 6 and likes GBS, could attend in a venue such as the Nokia theater so I'll keep that in mind for the future. Sean McCann did an excellent rendition of the Simon and Gafunkel's The 59th Street Bridge song, (Feeling Groovey). I was hoping to hear more from The Hard and The Easy, especially Charlie Horse, which I bet would be great live. All in all it was a great show with good energy many of the old favorites and some that will likely be favorites real soon, like "Straight to Hell". I can't wait for the next show.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Amy: It was a temperate blue sky over the tents at Altamont Fairgrounds in the Berkshires in the late afternoon as Great Big Sea stormed the stage. We were lucky enough to meet Kris, Murray, Bob and Alan by the big iceberg-toting bus. They are gracious lads, and it never surprises me when they take time to spend some quality time with patient fans outside the bus. They played for an hour and a half and the crowds knew it couldn't go over since Seven Nations was the next band up, but they fill the time slot so tight with favorites the crowd was satisfied as if it was a full show. The boys are pure energy and fun when on-stage. They give generously of their wit and talents. I've seen them in DC three times since 2004 and I love their indoor concert presence, but they shine in a festival atmosphere. Maybe it's the fresh air or the unlimited release of sound with no walls to restrain, but I loved them best last night and at the Shamrock festival in March. Another great show with plenty of old favorites and tunes from the new CD. By the way, I was very pleased to find Fortune's Favour on the featured "new release" rack in Borders this summer and not tucked away in World Music. Great Big Sea gets bigger every year in the US.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Karen: what a fabulous evening! First time I have heard Murray sing so much - everyone was up to usual high standards, of course! I have been to see you play 7 times now (I don't get out much; and each and every time leaves me shaking my head in amazement-and the rest of me shaking with adrenaline. You sang some of my very favorites: River Driver, Consequence Free, The Shores of England, but I missed Beat the Drum. Perhaps some day you'll go from A to Z - Wow, what a night that would be! (or two...) The Moore is a great venue, anywhere you guys sing is good, really.'Thank you'is not enough, but its all I can say - besides buying all of your music and DVD's :) Slan abhaile
Erin: I wanted to say a big thank you to all the guys in Great Big Sea for the show last night in Seattle. It was my first time seeing them in concert and boy was it exactly what I needed! I'm an employee of the former Seattle bank Washington Mutual and the show made me feel so much better in the midst of all the turmoil involved in WaMu's failure and takeover. I had an epiphany during "ordinary Day" and realized that it doesn't matter what I'm going through in life, as long as I go home at night and realize that "everything's all right". Thanks for helping me realize what's really important in life at a time when I really needed it!
Darcie: Great Show, of course!Hubby and I brought our 7 year old boy and 3 year old girl for their first concert experience. 3 year old was thrilled that the GBS boys knew about Beauty and the Beast ;). Both were dancing in the aisles. The boys looked tired (No Dancing Bob! So sad) but clearly passionate about their music. Wish we could have stopped by for a pint afterwards, but had drive 2 hours north home to Bellingham. Thanks for making the trip to Seattle for us - we appreciated your effort. Great experience, great music, great showmen, Great Big Sea!
My daughter got me listening to GBS when she "discovered" the band in college. I liked them, but after seeing the band live- WOW! This was my first show, and it was great. The interaction with the audience makes it a unique experience. And the music was wonderful as well. I don't think I sat down at any point during the concert.

Matt & Carol: We are actually from Boston, and we just happened to be in Los Angeles for a friend's wedding at the same time as this show. I don't know what this says about us, but we actually made up some lame excuse, and left the rehearsal dinner early so we could catch the show! It was well worth it - we managed to get pretty close to the stage, and enjoyed every minute, especially when Russell Crowe showed up to do a few songs with the boys at the end of the night. One of our most memorable GBS experiences!
Star: one of the best shows ive ever seen! the boys were just great! all the hits were sung and i could not stop jumping around! i even lost my voice! hands down just the best!!

Hearing "General Taylor" live was truly a treat for the ears. I will certainly be attending any future shows that are anywhere close to me.
Michael: The room was sparsely filled. GBS gave a performance like it was for 60,000 people. I wanted to drive to the next concert in San Luis Obisbo to see them again tonight... Had to get back home! I drove over 800 miles round trip just to see GBS. WORTH EVERY MILE

Jeff: So, I saw Great Big Sea for the first time last night with my family. I don't think you can put into words properly how Amazing these guys are in concert. They played my favorite song 2nd in line "Chemical workers song" and that set the tone for the whole show. Everyone who has a chance so go see these guys. Alan even was outside after the show and let us get autographs and take pictures! You guys Rock! When you ever get back to Arizona, you bet I will be there and any other opportunity that ever may show up will have me there too. Not disappointed in the least! Keep it up guys!

It is moving, exciting, and it really reminds you to look at how great the simple things in life are. I've no idea how they hit that chord so well, but they do. And thanks for coming back to Denver! It was amazing to see again.... hopefully more shows will come to NYC and Denver! (as I am moving to NYC soon)

MommaBear: First of all let me say I wasnt even aware that the Boys were going to be here until a friend I had met a couple of years ago alerted me...she is the consummate concert goer and has proof*lol*..We ere in the front row staring up the nostrils of Alan Doyle & Company..even caught the red thread holding on the button to Alan's shirt (must be a skill he has learned being on the road)..suffice to say they were fantastic..and this is only my second concert..two full sets..and some much energy you could plug them in to power your blender..old favorites..new stuff..a mixture of r&r and ballads..Walk On The Moon is a very daring departure from the norm (in the traditional sense maybe) all the orchestrations adeptly handled with the help of a lap top??..(I told you this is only my second time)..2006 was my first and the Aladdin hasnt changed..the acoustics are compact so you can walk out with your earring impaired and your heart with an added rhythmic beat..there was no meet & greet at this one however reasons only known to them as opposed to 2 years ago when diehards waited for over an hour..i think they were relaxing and watching the Olympics before they departed (If I remember rightly)..one young boy did however with perseverance obtain an autograph from inside the bus..and went home happy..there were a few families there and one person seated next to me related how her five year old daughter knows all of the lyrics to many songs..how gratifying to think your legacy is already in place..thanks guys..not that there is or could be worse but you have made an impression already with the young..the harmonies were tight the humor and kidding around..Sean singing James Blunt song 'Your Beautiful'.. Alan and his rockstar moves all over the stage..Bob multitasking with every instrument he had..and Murray holding down the fort (great voice) he's so humble about it..and the 'Drummer Dude' making sure we all had it right.(boom chuckalucka..boom chuckalucka)..Alan even said it had been a long time coming back here..and 'vowed' to not be a stranger..it was a wonderful night..Cheers..and thank you for coming..
Molly: The boys did not disappoint last night. They sounded fantastic, and the play list was full of new and old favorites. Alan roused us to plenty of vertical movement, Bob impressed us as always with his many talents, and Sean brought shanty songs to a new level. Although he should try running the trails in Forest Park next time and avoid gondolas all together. And as wonderfully "Portland" as the Aladdin is, the boys should check out the Crystal Ballroom next time where there's plenty of room for dancing and general jumping around. But all around, last night was one of my favorite shows. So thanks and cheers!
Karen: Inspired for a couple of reasons: GBS just keeps getting better- we have been to numerous concerts and this was their BEST ever. 2 fantastic sets, great banter and a more intimate venue in the Aladdin Theatre. It goes to show you that perseverance & a passion for what you do pays off. Secondly, they look great- Sean has now inspired us to blow the dust of our runners and hit the trails back home on Vancouver Island. Looking forward to seeing GBS in Vancouver on December 3rd.
Kim: It was the best show of my life! I have seen Genesis in concert, don't get me wrong it was amazing as well but, the venue was the perfect size and the band was outstanding! The music was great the feel of the crowd and the interaction! I only wish I would have sat closer to Sean McCann! I am definetly going to more concerts in the future! Way to go boys!

Stephanie: I believe I'm not alone when I say that any Great Big Sea show is the best pick-me-up any person can get. The energy, the music, and the audience all mixed together with the boys can get even the shiest person to get up to dance and sing along. Each show is a like a party that I don't believe anyone should miss and this show was no different. I've been to four GBS concerts now and I can say with the utmost certainty that they just keep getting better and better. The new music from Fortune's Favour puts a new splash of color onto the art of their musical talents and the boys show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They're on a fast track upwards in the musical world and I would not be surprised if I saw them hitting the top charts in the United States very soon. As for the show, it was phenomenal as always. The boys, even though some of them had done a "very early show" on the news in the morning-showed no signs of exhaustion as they were seen jigging around the stage and singing loudly to the adoring crowd. We even were lucky enough to get a special performance from Bob which I enjoyed very much. In all the concerts I've attended-I had never actually heard Bob speak except to sing, you can imagine how honored I felt by his performance. To have Bob communicate with the audience, give us a glimpse into his own personal feelings and then to sing that lovely song-it was truly a remarkable and worthwhile experience that I will not soon forget. The show ended in a bang, the crowd still cheering for Great Big Sea who kindly came out for an encore. After the encore was finished, the boys exited the stage and my ears rang for ten minutes from the cheers around me. Driving home the next hour, my throat was sore from cheering and singing, my hands red from clapping and my legs throbbing from dancing for two hours straight but it was very much worth it. I look forward to the next GBS concert I go to and hope that they'll be in town again sometime soon. Cheers.

Diane: This was our second GBS experience and the best so far! I never wanted the night to end. Sean's solo of Gallow's Pole was phenominal! The a cappella version of Old Brown's Daughter was a beautiful way to end the show. We loved every minute and are now thinking of getting tickets for Portland on Nov. 1.
Jennifer: This was my 3rd GBS show - and I had such an awesome time. The energy and humor that you all have on stage is just amazing. Without a doubt there is no way that you can't help but be in a giddy mood when you leave one of your shows. I sincerely hope - even though I'm sure it is a nightmare all to itself - that you all can make another DVD soon! Since I was foolish enough to wear heels, my feet are killing me today from jumping but I wouldn't trade one ouch for the time I had. Sandra: You boys never fail to deliver a solid performance. Thank you SO much for bringing a little bit of home down here to Raleigh :-) We last saw you in Seattle, WA and you just keep sounding bigger and better. Going to a GBS concert is so much fun because you always bring out the Canadian crowd - and you know only good fun can come from that! We brought 4 friends last night - 2 of whom were unfamiliar with your music - and they left as fans -- course how could they not ... who can resist a lively little Mari-Mack ;-) Please come back to Raleigh, NC next year :-)
Kelly: The show last night was incredible! The guys looked great and sounded even better!! This was my third GBS show, and by far the best- I think it had to do with the fact that the Fletcher Theater was an amazing venue...a small, intimate setting- and GBS rocked the house! I really did not want the night to end. I know this tour takes the guys far from home, but I am so glad they made it to Raleigh! I loved having the opportunity to see them live again...I can't wait until next time!! Cheers guys! Thanks for a great show...

I, of course, thought it would some pop group that would create the mother of all headaches. She then gave me a CD to listen to & I thought I should give it a try. I now have a favorite new band. SHOW REVIEWS:
Helen: Once again, Great Big Sea rocked Merrill Auditorium in what may be the best live show around. Tremendous energy, amazing music and a great sense of humor add up to foot stomping, hand clapping fun. It is clear the band is not only a hotbed of talent, but more importantly, they truly love what they do. They always seem to be enjoying themselves, and are generous enough to bring the audience along for the ride. What a ride it was. An energetic mix of songs from older albums and Fortune's Favor rocked the nearly full house. My daughter and I discovered Great Big Sea 8 years ago while traveling in Canada. To this day, they continue to surprise and delight.
Gail: It was gratifying to see the number of American's that actually knew the words to GBS songs... you guys are rocking ambassadors! The show was good - worked up a sweat dancing in the crowd... my only critique would be that the speakers were a little to large for the venue - some songs/lyrics were distorted because of the speakers.
The Daggetts: What a great show GBS put on at Merrill Auditorium! It was a night of incredible music, fun and dancing. It was our first time seeing them and we were so impressed! WOW! I hope they come back again. Thanks for a great show!
Jessica: We drove over 500 kilometers to see Great Big Sea and it was worth EVERY single minute of the trip! We booked our tickets the minute they went on sale back in July, couldn't wait for the show! It was the most amazing concert that I've ever been to, the energy and atmosphere in that auditorium was extraordinary! No words can describe how great that concert was and how worth the trip to Portland it was. Great show!

Cindy: I realize that the boys had been out for weeks by the time I saw them. And they had played at least three shows in three days, however. . . This show was fresh, full of energy and a stand out performance! The guys were powerful to watch, and the mix of old and new was perfect. Chris' solo gave me chills. I sang along to every song, clapped so hard my fingers were bruised, and LOVED every minute of it. And bonus points for starting on time, that was a real treat!!
Debbie: This was my first Great Big Sea concert and it was one of the best concerts I have been to in my 30 plus years of attending concerts. They had endless energy, witty banter and incredible harmonies. I think I am on my way to becoming a big fan. I hope they come back to this area again next year. Thanks for a most enjoyable evening.
Claudia: What a night! Final stop on the US leg of the Fortunate Tour. And certainly fortunate we were. The night before in Portland Alan said they were going to "leave it on the stage". But let me tell you, the Lebanon show is where they really left it. Quite a full house, lots of vertical movement, great vocals, and tremendous energy from audience and band alike. We learned that both Sean and Alan can run up to 90 miles in a heartbeat, save an entire kindergarten class, and in fact learn Japanese in one short afternoon. They like to swim, and I think had dinner at Three Tomatoes restaurant. Set list was much the same as in prior shows; seems they were shuffling most of the same songs in and out of the regulars. Solo was by Kris, but I didn't know the song, so can't remember it. Final was Old Brown's Daughter, 5 part acapella, and then a long goodbye from Alan. He seemed reluctant to leave the stage, although I know how eager they all are to get home for a well deserved break before they are off to Canada. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat, and will never forget it.

The crowd was clapping, hopping and totally loving the performance. Great job guys you were a sold out hit in Kingston! Look forward to your return for another not so Ordinary Day.
Kevin: WOW! What a night at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, ON. This was my 12th GBS Show and probably the best one yet (including the private showcase in Ottawa last June). The boys were fired up for the opening night of the Canadian Leg of the Fortunes Favour Tour. They talked alot about how much they love Kingston (references about buying a house and going to school by Shawn). They were definitely into the show. I'm sure a few nights off before helped before 4 straight nights this week. Lots of great stories, Shawn's great humour, even Bob had some things to say about his internet habits :) Got a set list: Set 1 - Tonight, Process, Paddy, When, Hinks, England, Charlie, Hard Case, River Drive, Here & Now, Shawn Solo (Bobcaygeon by the Hip - awesome solo), Fools, Run. Set 2 - Tunes (fantastic with the 3 original members sitting on the drum stage and just playing), Kidd, King, Rover, General, Scolding, Helmet, Dream, Consequence, Mari Mac, Ordinary Encore - Moon, Black, Hell, Excursion, Fortune Well over 30 songs as there were a few extras they played that were not on their set list. Unbelievable show. Met the lads after outside and got a great picture signed (from the private show in Ottawa). Check out the pictures section for links for some pics and video. Thanks guys for a truly memorable night! Cheers!
Nancy: You guys put on an amazing show. I was impressed with everything you did.The music was awsome by you all and I will definitely see you again. Next time you are close to Kingston I will be there. Thanks for a GREAT night.
Leann: The boys were silly, fun and right on the money! I had an excellent time and can't wait to see them Thursday night in Kitchener and again in Oshawa on Saturday. My friend and I are having a Great Big Sea Week, 3 shows in 6 days! Were just sorry we had to miss the Barrie and Hamilton Gigs!
Jan: Ive seen the boys a few times now and this concert was the best Ive ever seen. I love the new CD and drive my co workers nuts daily playing GBS CD;s all day long at the office. They are and will always be my favorite band. Im heading down to Newfoundland this summer and would love to bump into one of them around St. John's until we meet again. Keep playing

Brad: My wife and I saw GBS in Barrie last night, and it was truly a fantastic show. I gauge bands by how they sound live as compared to CD - and there is no difference with GBS - they are not a "manufatured" sound - true talent! Thanks boys - keep to your roots and play on!
Beth: Last night's show in Barrie was GREAT! Was fortunate to have received surprise tickets from best friend which included "meet & greet" and sound check before the show! I know the guys must be tired from travelling and constantly smiling - but you would NEVER know it - they seemed genuinely happy and gracious to spend time with the group of us. The energy in the arena could have been better from some fans...but for those of us who sang every word and danced every step - it was AWESOME. Bob's solo was great - and something in all the concerts I've been to, I don't think I've seen before. Sean's Gallows Pole was amazing...Jimmy Page would have said so himself! Truly amazing guys! I also have tickets to Kitchener on Thursday - see ya then!
Anne: Exceptional show. Incredible sound. The guys are so very talented. Wonderful evening with my son. Truly memorable.
Cindy: Best show I've seen!! You guys keep getting better and better everytime! I saw a show in July and ran out and bought the Fortune's Favour CD the next day. Your music always gets me in a good mood no matter what. Can't wait till you come back to Ontario - Barrie would be nice! But I will travel :)
I have to be honest, I have not heard much of your music and it was the first time I saw you in concert. However, my best bud asked me to go confident I would have the time of my life and wanting to share the experience with me. Fourth row floors although we snuck up to the front! What an amazing time we had. Brought me back to the times I spent at the Newfie Bar at Coxwell and Danforth Ave in Toronto. I was moved to tears with your song walk on the moon. The next leg of my walk on the moon will be skydiving at 50. Four years to go, I will bring Charene with me and be listening to that song prior to the jump. Your music touched my soul and made me come alive! A sincere Thank-you for that. I will see you all again.
Bev: I was a Fan before the concert. Now I'm a FAN! You brought me up a level or two :)
I took my son to go see GBS in Barrie for his birthday about five years ago (when he turned six) and when we heard they were coming back, we were there! The only reason to go to the Barrie Molson center, HOCKEY and GREAT BIG SEA! A great show and can't wait for the boys to come back this way! :)

Mariko: I keep saying that the show I've just seen is the best (keep in mind that this was #3). But OMG, nothing beats a great show in a theatre like Hamilton Place. Great Big Sea ROCKED the house!! Thank you Alan for making my night & waving/pointing at me again, in SECOND BALCONY!! :D Also, your solo from Blue Rodeo was wonderful!! A great mix of old & new songs. Please come back to Canada SOON!!!
Robin: Thank you all for the wonderful show last night. It has been a while since I could come see you, and it was my hubby's first time seeing you. He loved the show (I always do) so I'm guaranteed tickets for your next in town show! Yeah! Wishing you all the very best.
Summer: Ive been to many, many concerts, but this show was the best concert ive ever been to. Everyone was so exited and the boys sounded amazing. I am 12 years old, and Great Big Sea is my favourite band! I Love you guys!
A truly awesome show! We were able to enjoy it with our family and we are looking forward to seeing the 'lads' again, or should I say " Sex Puddings"? Keep up the great work. Your music is an inspiration to so many.

One of the best concerts I've been too, counting down the days till you guys come back! Keep up the great work!
Kim: The Boys rocked Kitchener last night. The crowd never stopped clapping, and jumping and singing. You are all so talented, the instruments, the singing and the comic relief = perfection! (Your not hard to look at either.) Songs like River Driver, General Taylor and England gave us chills. The mixture of your classic music and your new music was excellant.
Becky: You guys absolutely rocked last night! Seen you before many times, but this is by far the best show you ever put on!!!!Loved all your music choices and the MURRAY solo!!Please come back to kitchener soon
Julie: I took my son to his first concert last night and it just happened to be a Great Big Sea show!!! He was not disappointed..We had hoped to see them in Gander this summer, but our plane landed in the wrong city and we had to miss out.. but this was the next best thing.. Still a show in Canada!!! They boys NEVER disappoint..Consumate showmen that put on a great show. Keep up the good work!
Marc: This would be the second show I have seen - and certainly the better of the two. Unbelievable energy, absolutely impossible to not be as into the music as the boys on stage.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Mamajojo: Oshawa, Ontario - Vampire horses sucked the green out of the grass, Alan giggled and we all felt the love at a sold out show. And what love there was! The guys outdid themselves with this one, playing a great mix of old and new. The atmosphere was supercharged, audience participation was at a max (I think we all did a great rendition of Summer of '69) and wow what a dandy show!
Stephanie: While this was my first Great Big Sea concert it is definitely not my last. They get the audience engaged and you can truly "feel the love" in the room. It was fun, entertaining, and you couldn't possibly walk away unhappy with the performance. Everything about it was simply over the top amazing! I can't wait for their next tour near the GTA where I am sure they will blow the audience away yet again.
Heather: Best concert I've been to since Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" tour in the 80s! I'd have taken my top off and waved it around...if I hadn't been sitting with my parents. (Alan did say "there was no need for restraint.") Never seen a band so in synch with their audience -- I was sitting in a comparatively quiet section just right of the stage -- I threw my arms up in the air and let out a big "whoo-hoo!" and Alan pointed right at me and gave me a big grin. Either you're really watching your audience...or I was REALLY loud?!

SHOW REVIEWS:
Well, this being my very first GBS concert I had no idea what to expect. I have been to many nights out at the Auditorium to find myself sitting in my seat and enjoying the talent usually while the place was quiet and everyone very subdued. This was not the case with GBS. I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm the crowd oozed. My friend who invited me did sort of warn me that I would be in for a show but it was so much better than my expectations. Kudos to the guys for their witty banter and awesome stories that were told about "persians" and of course there was the "streaker", but I can't help remembering my friend who yelled out into the crowd that Alan should remove his shirt. She has been a fan from the beginning and I am pretty much a newbie but I did manage to memorize most of their songs so that I could sing along. Thank you boys for a great night and I will be there front and center for the next.
Amanda: I have been to three GBS shows and each one has its memorable moments. This show however was full of them. I love hearing that the band spent the day around town. I liked when they told us of their sugar rush from eating Persians (a Thunder Bay treat). They do seem to make something so simple seem so wonderful and special. I know that this show will stand out for a while due to the person streaking through "Consequence Fee", and not getting caught. I know it will be hard for the boys to top this show here in Thunder Bay and I hope they are up to the challenge. We all had a great time and hope to see them back here soon. As long as they have recovered from this last show....
Maria: Last night's performance was fantastic!!! It was my second GBS concert, and I'm already looking forward to the next :) Was hoping to hear my favourite song, 'Boston and St.John's', but other than that, it was a great show. Sitting front row centre I had an up close view of the streaker and the boys' reaction...priceless
Shawn: What a night! From the first song, everyone was on their feet. The second half saw a streaker run across the stage. The joy quotient in Thunder Bay was off the scale by the end of the night. The audience knew the lyrics to all the songs. The guys behind us were hoarse by the end of the night. It was a great party. Thank you Great Big Sea.

May: Undoubtedly the most fun had by thousands of people in one place at the same time. (and while fully clothed!) The band played a fabulous mix of old favorites and new songs and the audience sing-a-long was a definite highlight. Too bad they were only in town one night.
Victor: The show last night was a rip roaring good time boys. It was a kitchen party like no other, again (like always) you didn't disappoint. As a newfoundlander living in the 'Peg I am extremely proud that you continue to focus on your roots while growing as a band. The choice of songs and interaction with the crowd was unreal, and the crowd participation was heart warming. Keep up the great work and live consequence free!!!
Matt: Hey guys, just wanted to say that you played a great show in Winnipeg! It was my first GBS concert and it was amazing. Thanks for the great show!

Robin: 11 years (and exactly one month ago) I attended my first Great Big Sea concert at the Shaw Convention Centre in Edmonton. Not only did it make me a GBS convert but it was also where I met my husband! Last night was a special night for us as we sat (or rather danced) in the Jubilee Auditorium. Some of the songs were the same, some were different, but the magic is still there! For the last 11 years, we've listened to many different bands....but we always come back to Great Big Sea.

SHOW REVIEWS:
March 7th, 2009 will go down in my life story as being the greatest few hours of my life. I "met" the boys briefly on the elevator at the Sax (by "met" I mean stared at their shoes, and by "briefly" I mean on the elevator to the 6th floor). I felt so ashamed, actually, that i ended my dying my hair in hopes that the shame could be covered. I'm still wondering if it worked. Scythian, a D.C bred gypsy/celtic rock band, opened with an outstanding performance. It started off slow but as the music swelled and more of the courageous concert goers began to dance, cheer, and sing, the party begin to come into full swing. Kudos to my, as well as my fellow dancers, awesome gypsy-esque moves. Thanks to you, i felt more awesome and less alone and stupid! Well done! After their brilliant set, and a short intermission for set up, It was time for the main event! For me, it was heart racing. To finally see the men, in the flesh, who created and sang the music that brought my brother and I closer together, calmed my bad teenage ways, and helped me soldier through the hardships brought on by my fathers stroke, was truly an intense moment. The music played and we danced. Maybe too simple a description of what took place on that stage and on that dance floor but simply what happened. The boys banter, music, and all over live performance is one that gets you out of your seat, opens your eyes, and has you make friends with everyone around you. "The Hard and The Easy" was the first CD I listened to years ago. In 2010, I have all of their albums, my pirate ship tattooed behind my ear, and my tickets to the upcoming House of Blues show in March. This show was an amazing first encounter when it comes to getting the full feel of the band. The venue was standing room with seats in the back and side, which is wonderful because it encouraged everyone to dance, and get into the music which is definitely one of the reasons to come out. With interactive songs like Excursion Around the Bay, Helmethead, and many great sing-along songs, Great Big Sea's shows invite you to join in on the romp. This particular show had all of these great aspects. Thanks House of Blues and most importantly Thank You Great Big Sea for fulfilling my dreams of an amazing show.

The boys were simply on fire and didn't miss a beat! Their joy in performing was not only evident, it was contagious.
You know it's a great concert when the band doesn't want to leave the stage! Every band should love performing as much as Great Big Sea. What a high!

SHOW REVIEWS:
Hubby & I drove to DC area from Avoca NY to see the GBS. Sat on lawn but night was beautiful and the music was fantastic. This Newfie-American gal was surprised to see so many fans in DC. Haven't been to a concert in years. This was the most animated one we ever saw. The Stones could not compete! Hubby & I and my Florida sister are going to the Rochester, NY 9/30/10 concert. Can't wait!!! Telling Newfie cousins how lucky they are to live in GBS' playground. Would love to see GBS sing Dick Nolan songs with their rock and roll edge. We now know where the Road Rage title came from - it was difficult getting out of the parking lot and there were some interesting moments. We highly recommend their concerts to one and all.
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this show. Carbon Leaf opened up and they got the crowd going. It was pouring rain before, during and after. I have great memories of jumping in all the puddles with my hubby after the show like we were kids! The boys were electric that evening and they was a lot of ad-libbing. Favourite part was Sean singing England (my most favourite song ever), Alan leading the crowd in a rousing rendition of "Don't they know it's Christmas Time" and knowing I was followng the boys to Toronto after the show. I am from the Toronto area (Hamilton) and live here in Northern Virginia. I thought, hey go home for a week and see GBS at Wolf Trap and Molson Ampitheate, so after the show and after drying off we headed to TO for another concert and a week at my sisters cottage. Great week.
I emailed the boys and asked if I could hitch a ride on the bus with them but I didn't hear back. I wonder why? Maybe next time. LOL Wouldn't that be the ultimate fan experience.
Well...this was my first ever time Great Big Sea show. Honestly, Ive never even heard fo this group until maybe a month before the show when a local radio station was giving tickets away....when they described the bans's style of being like a celtic folk...I said "Could be interesting. Probably won't win the tickets, but this is something I would not mind checking out." Well....about 3 days before the show...I got a phone call from the radio station saying I won the tickets!!! I said "Sweet!" Well...not knowing what I was getting myself into....I went to the concert...it was pouring down rain...and it was an outdoor concert...thankfully my tickets were in the covered part....but I must admit, it looked like the people out in the lawn in the pouring rain had a better time than we did lol. I will admit, it was a GREAT show....didn't realize how much of a following GBS has! They have gained a new fan that night....however, my friend who I took with me didn't seem to enjoy it...but hey, it's her loss. Can't wait to see these guys again!

SHOW REVIEWS:
Me and my Brother left North East Scotland early on Thursday 20th for our wonderful Great Big Sea adventure.
Arriving at the Molson a couple hours before the gig we found ourselves in a bar (funnily enough) inside the grounds of the stadium. Although we had seen GBS briefly before as a supporting act to Runrig, this was the REAL DEAL.
After a few swift ones and some photo opportunities we made our way down into the auditorium, the hairs on the back of our necks standing on end..Spirit Of The West had left and we waited, and we waited...then it came... the opening bars of Donkey Riding and we were off into a wonderful ecstatic musical oblivion..
Too many highlights to mention but Ferryland Sealer and the medley including the Proclaimers' 500 Miles were particularly moving for me.
Before we knew it, the lights went up and it was all over, it felt like only minutes since the band first arrived onstage but they disappeared to rapturous applause.
Gone, but not forever...
Just want to thank everyone we met during our stay up to and beyond the gig, what a friendly bunch people you all are. We began in the 200 level before we managed to wangle our way down to the lower section (Big thanks to the security guard who was very tolerant with our excitable behaviour) We ulitmately ended up dancing around like a couple of nutcases in the exit area beside the front stage for the few remaining sings and encore.
The experience and memories of witnessing GBS in full flight will live on with us forever.
We are already planning for our next visit to your beautiful country to catch the boys again.
All the best
Doodles (and young doodles)
This show was my first outside of Newfoundland and did not disappoint. From the opening strains of Donkey Riding, to the very last note of Political with Spirit of the West, this show was by far the best that I have attended. The energy was amazing! I cannot put into words how wonderful it felt to be that close to the stage, and then for a couple of the band members to notice me :)
The video effects on the screens behind the band were fantastic. Kris at one point grabbed this little camera, and started getting shots of everyone in the band. Every single member of the band was on that night, and my only complaint would be that it seemed to go too fast. Before we all knew it the show was over, and we were left to party on our own for the rest of the night.
All in all it was a fabulous show, and I will never forget my first trip to Ontario because of it. Setlist to follow when I have it handy.
Krista Eddy,
Longtime GBS fan

Drove up from Seattle for this show and I wasn't disappointed. In spite of the fog of... toast, was it :)... It was a beautiful night and a wonderful venue for GBS. From the way the notes seemed to hang in the air in "Turn" to the fun silliness of Reggae music ala white guys from Newfoundland, well worth the drive. Found out you played St Michelle Winery the next night- which is 2 miles from my home!! Oh well- still worth the drive. Stanley Park is a very pretty spot! And GBS always worth the road trip.

This was an absolutely awesome show! I nabbed my tickets on the GBS website and picked them up at the Lower Deck.
The stage was set between two historic buildings and even though it was a cool night the boys heated the place up to a boil! I can't remember how many encores they did, but I'm pretty sure that noone in attendance woke up in time for work the next day, myself included!
Can't wait until they come back again (hopefully to a venu that I can bring my 5yo daughter to, she's as big a fan as I am!)

This was our first GBS show. I bought the tickets for my wife's birthday and completely surprised her - She didn't know who was playing 'till the boys came out on stage! The show was, of course, amazing. (Does anyone reading this have any doubts?) The McAnninch Arts Center is a great place to see them - all the seats are great.
As an extra-special treat, I contacted the band before the show and asked for an extra-special favor... When they sang "Happy Birthday" to my wife from the stage, she about fell off the balcony! Sean then sang "Graceful and Charming" to thunderous applause.
We've since seen them at the House of Blues in Chicago, and will again this October. We're hooked, and will try to catch them whenever they're in the area.
Guys, THANK YOU for making that night one of the best birthday presents she ever received.

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was our first GBS concert. We are actually from Washington but were in Anaheim while GBS was there. We missed the Washington shows but managed to make it to Santa Ana.
We purchased tickets way in advance but didn't tell our daughter. She's a huge GBS fan too. We told her we were going to see a show and asked if she had anything she wanted to see. She thought we were going to a movie theater.
When we got to the Galaxy, she was so surprised and excited.
We had seats right up front near the band. We were eating dinner. None of us knew what to expect.
It was a great time and full of energy. By the end we were dancing and singing with the rest. I think we all enjoyed the spur of the moment song about California.
I hope they come to Washington so we can see them again.

SHOW REVIEWS:
A Twist of Fate
I have been a Great Big Sea fan from the first time I heard "Its The End of the World" on an airplane radio station. Being as young as I was, I rushed to buy the first Great Big Sea album I could see. After I purchased "Up" I quickly realized that I had bought the wrong album, a mistake that would begin my addiction to my all time favorite band.
I bought every CD that came out on the release date and scoured the internet for tour dates to Edmonton but being on tour myself, I always missed any show by a couple of months. I naturally started to give up and then I went to Spokane.
Sitting in a bar in Spokane, WA on a day off, enjoying an afternoon beer and combing through a local artists magazine my friend from England (also a huge fan) casually tells me that GBS was in Kent, WA last night- our previous tour date that we had left two days prior. Sadly, having missed another show yet again, I turned the page and saw the ad for the show at the Bing Crosby Theater. While leaping in the air, I whipped out my cell phone and reserved 4 tickets to the Tuesday night show. Finally after 10 years, I get to see the show.
The show was more then I ever could have imagined. Clad in my Edmonton Oilers jersey with my Canadian flag strung from my neck like a cape (bound by my roots lanyard), I flew to my feet the second the notes from "Donkey Riding" came through the speakers. I stayed on my feet the entire time. Just like my Mom and Dad (also huge fans) had said I would (I bought them tickets to a show in Edmonton because if I couldn't go, someone who at least shares my blood should).
Halfway through, I was told to settle down by some employee. I politely told him while still dancing "I had waited 10 years for this night and it would literally take placing my feet into cement to keep me in my seat!". The building manager upon exiting the show thought it was rather funny that someone had a problem with an audience member being a fan. Needless to say, I was useless in my own show that week because I couldn't walk for three days because my feet and calves hurt so much.
Thanks for the amazing show. I still relive it every time I listen to the music. I use my favorite songs when I teach class for warm ups and exercises and the other fellow Canadians get amped up when they hear their Canadian music. Keep the tunes coming and I pray that I never have to wait 10 years to see another show.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Good acoustics and good seats made this a very enjoyable experience. This round of concerts in Washington State took place at venues with season ticket holders- many of whom were well into their senior years, and had never heard of GBS. It was so much fun to watch them! The look of disbelief, then of wonder- and then that look of guilty pleasure as they joined the rest of us- on our feet clapping and singing. I did not hear one complaint, and no one left the show early.
It was my husbands first GBS concert. Afterwards he said, "now I know why you like them- they sing happy music". (Why would anyone listen to sad music?) The sing-a-long before the intermission won him over, and he was on his feet and pumping his fist for Helmethead. Inspite of the horrible weather (hint- don't come to Washington State in November- it rains. Alot.) it was a warm and friendly atmosphere in theater that night.

SHOW REVIEWS:
After years of loving their music and anticipating that someday we may sing along and dance with the Boys 'live', we were fortunate (and fast) enough to get front row seats to this show! We had been out to Newfoundland the Summer of 2008, and although we enjoyed great East Coast music both there and in Nova Scotia, we hadn't had the chance to see GBS on their own turf. As we expected, in Penticton they did not disappoint, beginning the night with the drums and amazing harmonies of Donkey Riding......everyone was on their feet within seconds....I swear the building foundation shook! The night continued, song after song, memory after memory...and we were later treated to an incredible, slower, beautiful version of Sea of No Cares, with an intro that told the inspirational (and funny) story of a mate who visited the Rock and got lost with a beauty who caught his eye. I won't mention 'the lobsters', LOL. The evening went by all too quickly and all that was missing for me was to hear Boston & St. John's......all we can hope for is to make another trip out to the East Coast to experience that, visit friends, and breathe in the rustic beauty of Newfoundland. Thanks for a wonderful night......BTW, added was the bonus of your opening act, Dustin Bentall with Kendall Carson, who were the perfect appetizer to a musical feast. ..........Bev and Gord, Kelowna, BC

I got to experience my very first concert with Great Big Sea 1 meter away from me infront of my eyes at Bluesfest, front row, breathtaking lights, sound, everything. It was an absolutly amazing experience! Everything made the experience worth it, the sound, the singing, the dancing, the crowds participation, the laughs, EVERYTHING. Being a musician, I'm always an ear and am very picky about sound, but everything sounded so perfect! My cheeks were hurting from smiling and laughing so much! Haha. Did I mention I'm 19? Yeah I had my very first concert at 19, but it will always be a night I'll always remember with Great Big Sea. :)

I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE AT THE SHOW. THE ENERGY AND EMOTION OF THE BAND WAS FABULOUS, AS WERE THEIR INTERACTIONS WITH THE CROWD. I HAVE THE NEW CD AND LOVED THE BANDS LIVE RENDITIONS OF THE NEW SONGS AS WELL AS ALL THE FAVORITES. IT WAS A HOT AND HUMID NIGHT AND GBS MADE IT HOTTER. GREAT CONCERT, GREAT JOB BOYS!!!!! DAVE WELLAND ONT.
It was my first time, I was a virgin but oh how I got swept up in the moment. It was a fabulous experience and they stayed extra long. How excited I am to have given my self over to the experience. Great Big Sea is my new favorite obsession.
The crowd was medium size, the venue sound was excellent, and everyone had a great time. There was dancing in the aisles and we stood the entire show. Thankfully there was plenty to drink because the theater was hotter than hell.
Thanks gentlemen, you made my birthday eve a fabulous experience, to be remembered!

My husband I attended the show at the Zoo in Seattle. What fun! We had purchased "Safe Upon the Shore" when it came out and were glad to hear some of the new tunes played live last night. Alan, Sean, Bob, and Murray were in great voice. Chris, thanks for coming down on the "floor" and sharing your music with us peons. The only thing that could have been better, is if the entire meadow had been designated "dance floor". In the end it didn't matter since we were on our feet the entire 2nd set. We were delighted to hear GBS will be back in March 2011, do you know the date yet? We don't want to miss it.
that was some show! the vibe a cross between a rockin' pub and a frolicin' 4th of july family picnic (or whatever summer holiday canadian families frolic at). never heard of GBS until i went to the zoo tunes website to find tickets for a free nite. but i love 'em now. good music, great harmonies, the B-E-S-T at getting 2000 some odd 3 - 73 year olds up and dancing, clapping and stomping, singing and fist-pumping and 'fare thee well'-ing. whoo-hoo! gonna get me a cd, though i don't know how that'll stand up to the GBS energy of a live show. plenty of people at the concert knew all the words to all the songs, though, so somebody's buying and enjoying the recordings. it sounds like just the thing to play in the car heading up to mt. rainier this weekend. thanks to the GBS guys, and the GBS fans, who made for a fantastic nite of music.

This concert was my dream come true! I've been to several GBS concerts and the sound and energy at this one was by far the best yet. The selection of songs was perfect, with great hits from the past as well as rockin' ones from the new album. I raised my kids on GBS and it was the best feeling in the world to be dancing and singing along to our old favourites with them at my side. My only regret was that it couldn't have just kept on going so that we could have danced and hooted to all of my favourite songs! Way to go Allan, Sean, Bob and the rest of the band - I can't wait until you're back this way again.

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was the third time, I saw Great Big Sea, twice in Grande Prairie, and tonight and Honour indeed to have them in our own town of Grande Cache. This was without a doubt the Best of the 3 times I have seen them. They are indeed getting Better with age, just like Old Dark Rum. Hey that reminds me, I don't think they did that one, doesn't matter I may have missed it, since I was enjoying it so much, like everyone else. OR they did a few songs from their upcoming new CD, and I didn't notice. However, if this was the only flaw to the night, it was again unnoticed. Again it was an honour to have you boys in Grande Cache for the Death Fest, and I hope you enjoyed yourselves as well, and you come back again. Oh and it was not mentioned, BUT, we were forunate also to have a Movie Star in our town also, some people might not have known, but Mr. Doyle was recently in the movie, "Robin Hood", with Russell Crowe, saw the movie and again we were blessed to have a Movie Star and Canada's National Treasure in our town, GREAT JOB, GREAT BIG SEA, You all come back now, ya here!!! I've seen you in Minneapolis many places, from small to large and was glad you put on such a great show for the Big Top. Many people there had never seen of heard of you and were astounded at the energy put out by the band. Of course I was not one bit disappointed. Hope you can keep up the pace. Also, hope you can keep playing smaller venues, the crown inaction is great. Love the new CD which I purchased at Bayfield. Especially My Home town, and Safe Upon The Shore. Hope to see you in Newfoundland someday.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Best night of the Fair by far! We took our 9 year old to see her first GBS concert. We were at the front, right by the barriers. She bounced and danced all night. She is now in love with Alan, as he came down off the stage and gave her his guitar pick. She was so excited that she almost wet herself! She giggled all the way home, and after we got home, she was still so excited that she wouldn't go to bed. It took all we could do to get her to put the pick somewhere safe so she wouldn't lose it in bed. She will always remeber her first concert, and is now in love. She follows her older sisters, who are all in love with the boys! ( who, by the way, are are jelous of her!)Will be seeing them again in October when they come to Minneapolis! Thanks for giving our daughter a great time!
The band hit the stage early--about 8:20--perhaps sensing that there were storms approaching and wanting to get as much in as possible. There was a sense of urgency to the first twenty minutes, as it buzzed through songs with a minimum of chatter and a definite up-tempo tilt. Many eyes were watching the billowing clouds, scanning for sight of lightning, but however threatening it looked, it didn't appear that anyone was going to leave. That's a good thing, because it was a rip-roaring show. The wind came first, which created a few equipment issues: the wind was blowing the fog from the machines away from the band, and the microphones starting picking up the noise. A few good "prophylactic jokes" accompanied the move by the stage crew to put foam over the microphones, children in the audience notwithstanding. And then the rain. Since it was blowing so hard from the west, it didn't affect the audience so much--it hit our backs--but it was blowing straight into the band, with the bandshell of no help. I worried for Bob's accordians, though the fiddle was the first instrument to be brought into the neighboring tent. The music never stopped however, with Alan shaking his fist defiantly at whatever sort of weather Minnesota would throw his way. I doubted that his bandmates shared his degree of determination, but they all hung in there (Sean McCann went from bare feet to flip flops), and when the rain mercifully stopped there was a half hour of music yet to be played. The band skipped the medley of cover songs that they played the previous night, but displayed the great range of their musical interests, veering from the shanties (General Taylor) to rockers (Straight to Hell). It is a measure of the depth, as well as the breadth, of their oeuvre that they could change up their playlist between the two nights of the Irish Fest while still providing a long list of crowd favorites each time. Two general reflections: First, the band seems to be in particularly good form, both individually and in their harmonies. Second, they appeared to genuinely appreciate the crowd and their appearance at the festival, with a parting shot from Alan of "invite us back!" Perhaps due to the fast pace and earlier arrival on stage, the band wrapped up the encore about 9:45 p.m. Two great shows, and great professionalism on the part of the band to play through a brief but driving rain--not that a little rain could suppress a rant and a roar from true Newfoundlanders?

Absolutely the best live show I've ever seen, bar none. My wife and I were big fans before the show and are even bigger ones now. Can't wait to see you boys again soon. I live in Michigan now, so please add some dates down this way the next time you're on tour! Thanks again for a great show. DK
This is only the second of many I (I hope) GBS shows that I have seen. They started loud and finished loud. This was a fun night and there was not a person in attendance that was sitting, well, almost nobody. My 7 year old daughter must have had a busy day at the Ex and Ontario place. She fell asleep 3 songs in. Sorry guys. I was very impressed when they finished up with their set list they started adding other songs to the show. Hope they play the Empire Theatre in Belleville, Ont sometime on this tour. If they do I will be there.
Thanks so much for the fun time!!!!!! This is my second Great Big Sea concert and I loved it sooooooo much my hands were hurting from clapping so hard and so much!!!!!! I was excited to hear old songs like the Chemical Workers song and Helmethead and good old Patty Murphy! Definitely one of the best summer nights ever this year!
Yet another absolutely awesome GBS show at the Molson Amphitheatre! Who else could keep a Toronto crowd on their feet from start to end (with the occasional break for a ballad)?!! Feet hurt from bouncing, hands hurt from clapping and throat hurts from singing along, but I can't wait to do it all again next time they're in town!! :-)
Cheers, D.
Last night was fantastic. I had the best time. The evening was beautiful, the crowd was energetic and the show .......well the show was "amazing". I can honestly say that I have "never" been to a concert where the audience stayed on their feet from the beginning to the end of the show singing and dancing. But that is exactly what happened. The GBS had the crowd hooked right from the started and and kept us captivated throughout the whole show. What a incredible performance!!
Now I'll admit to being a bit partial to Newfie's cause my Dad, I can proudly say is from St. John's. But I will tell you that without a doubt last evening was the best concert I have "ever" been too. And who ever thought a few Newfie's from "The Rock" would have been able in reality do that. Eh!!!!! Way to go GBS.
You guys were AWESOME tonight! This must have been at least the 8th time I've seen you guys live in Toronto but this show was by far the best concert I've ever seen (and I've seen my fair share). It felt Iike I was back in NFLD in my auntie's kitchen singing my heart out. I don't think I'll sleep for a week after this one! You guys never fail to put on a great show. Good on ya! Next time you guys play again back home, I'll be sure to book a plane ride back to the Rock to see you there. Really amazing guys. Really.

You guys rocked it out yet again! As a transplanted Newf, getting to listen to Natalie Macmaster and then GBS was more than one could ask for. So this concert was extra special for my husband and I, as we were able to bring our daughters ages 8 and 5, they know and love the music, but this was not only the first time seeing GBS in concert, it was their first concert, EVER! They danced, they sang, and they were mystified by all the excitement!! Fitting with the fun loving people that attend these concerts and that it was early and at an outdoor venue, there were many kids! All the adults whether they had kids or not, allowed the wee ones to stand at the very front so they could really see the action....love the people I meet at these gatherings! The boys were 'careful' with the witty content, and us parents appreciate that! My older daughter did want to know if Sean and Allen really did run around naked in the mountains.....hmmmm that's a good question!
Thank-you boys for a memorable evening, and I'm starting the next generation young, so when you are still playing in 20 or 30 years, the wee ones will be all grown up and already fans..
Love you guys!
Robbie, Chris, Jessica and Bethany

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was just incredible show, we went as a big group and all just starting singing and stomping to the beat. Been to New Foundland several times hiked and toured the western side and based our tour on many of the songs that where played this very night.
We are already planning our next trip and our next concert
Back in August I saw the ad for the show when the wife and I were camping and as soon as we returned home, I called and reserved our tickets.
Little did we know then that my 47 yr old stepson would pass away the day before the concert.
Knowing he wouldnt want us to sit around the house, we went.
The energy we felt in the Waterville Opera House which the band brought to the stage that night took us away from our sadness for a couple of hours.
I've been a fan since i saw the band on the Imus in the morning show on St Patricks Day in Boston some yrs ago.
The band really knows how to entertain the crowd and we totally enjoyed the show.
Great Big Sea rocks and we're really grateful for a memorable night which took away some pain for a little while.
Thanks,
John & Jessie Honas

What an awesome show with the boys last night! Having not seen GBS since 1999 it was almost like a reunion!

This was my second show and my friends and I were lucky enough to sit in the second row. It was absolutely fantastic. They played a lot of the new song on "Safe Upon the Shore," so I didnt know some of the songs, but they have become some of my favorites. Going to see them when they come to Lowell, MA on Aug 26. Cant wait

The boys really rocked Boston tonight! Playing 2 sets, an hour each and 2 encores with multiple songs in each...about 2.5 hours of playing!! The really showed us all an amazing time, and as they said, any show after Boston, well just sucks. Well put Allen! The banter was a little minimal tonight, they got down to business and kept the place rockin!! Sean did his amazing solos, but he did not seem to be himself tonight...tired? under the weather? He seemed a little more lively in the second set, but the Allen and Sean banter was less than the norm tonight. How all is well Sean...take care buddy. Also wanted to comment on Murray, could really hear your amazing base voice tonight...love it, adds so much to the voice solos....
Loved the show, please come back to New England soon. This was my 4th show in 10 months, and 9th show to date!
Robbie

SHOW REVIEWS:
Thanks so much for playing in State College! As expected, the show was great, and we had a fantastic time. We first saw GBS in the late 90s at Red Rocks in Colorado as an opening act and were blown away - we went out the next day and bought Rant N' Roar and have followed your work ever since. We haven't had the chance to see you guys live again until last night, and I think we were even more blown away this time. I've been a guitarist and songwriter off-and-on for a long time, and I'm always impressed by the level of musicianship in the band, the monster hooks in your songs, and how good you are with the audience. You have a truly unique style and sound, and that's a rarity these days. State College is kind of a musical wasteland in many ways, and the State Theatre is the only venue that brings in shows like this, so we really appreciate you playing here. And the house was full, so clearly there are a lot of other people who feel the same way. The next time you tour in the US, please try to come back. Thanks again for a great night! -Steve and Jen

September 28, 2010 - McGlohon Theatre - Charlotte, NC
Click here to review this show
SHOW REVIEWS:
I looked forward to Great Big Sea's concert in Charlotte from the time I opened my email and saw the pre-sale announcement. I counted down the days. Tuesday seemed to painfully last forever...until the lights dimmed and the opening notes to Ordinary Day (my ultimate favorite GBS song) sounded through McGlohan theater. Then...I was on a whirlwind adventure.
That night, GBS displayed all of the sweet contradictions that make them dear to my heart...
...traditional tunes balanced with original works
...tender melodies followed by rhythms where one can;t stay seated
...flawless a cappella harmonies transitioning to plain old rocking-out
...belting at the top pf my lungs along with whispering quietly from the soul
In short, the concert was perfect. I will never forget it!
Each member of GBS has special contributions...
...Kris and Murray are the solid foundations for the band to showcase their talents. They should not be underestimated.
...Bob privides musical depth and talent. His instrumental skills add layers of richness which elevates the band's music above the pablum that is today's pop culture. My one regret is that Bob only headlined two songs (HelmetHead and Follow Me) because he has such a great voice.
...Alan brings life, humor, and energy. HIs witty conversation between songs not only entertains, but also gives the American audience insight into the rich history and culture of Newfoundland. With both spoken word and song lyrics...Alan is an extraordinary story teller.
...Sean is the soul...rowdy & fun as well as sweet and poignant...both aspects touch the spirit. It is surreal to sit in a packed audience in silence as Sean's voice took me away with a rendition of Safe Upon the Shore and left me with goosebumps. And there is nobody on this green earth who can belt out Mari-Mac like Sean.
And while Murray, Kris, Bob, Alan, and Sean each is talented in his own right...their combined skills and chemistry makes them so unique. A concert without any one of them would not be the same.
I will never forget that concert not only because of the amazing entertainment...but for what it meant to me personally. My 21-year-old daughter has anxiety disorder. Crowds often send her into a panic attack. As a result...she never goes to places or events where she will encounter more than a handful of people because she can become terrified. But my daughter loves GBS so much that she was willing to give it a try. I carefully selected our seats...she held her fears at bay...and although there were a few touchy moments...her courage held out! Thanks to the love she has for this band...for once my daughter had an experience that is considered normal for most young women her age. The icing on the cake was that we saw Alan in the parking lot after the concert. He shook her hand, gave her a peck on the cheek, said some kind words, and posed for a photo. I am sure that Alan has no idea how much this gesture meant...but I for one will always remember.
It would be great if the ban just never ended. Time went by way to fast...before I knew it...we were ranting and roaring through the encore. And While I know it is too early to say it...I greatly look forward to the next GBS releases and greatly look forward to the return of GBS to Charlotte...may it be soon!

SHOW REVIEWS:
This was my second chance to see GBS in action, and as always the group did not disappoint. They're one of the only bands I've seen that sound just as good live as they do in the studio. That, combined with their tremendous on-stage presence, makes GBS concerts an event that I'm constantly on the lookout for. My only concern was that there were several instances in which the instrumentals drowned out the band member vocals. This was a shame, as any member of this sight will likely agree that Alan and the rest are all talented singers. Kentucky was lucky to have Great Big Sea be the finale for Waterfront Wednesday this year, and we definitely hope to have them back again in the near future!

it was incredible. Does anyone have a setlist? Or remember it?
This was our first time at a GBS concert and at the German House. Cross Generational - our kids bought the tickets for (7) of us for my wife's birthday.
For a relatively small venue(550-600?), Our Rochester audience was most appreciative and joined in for a great time. For being on the tail end of a rough tour schedule, you gave us a great show and a more than good time.
This was a real treat. Our other concert of the year - Celtic Woman at the Auditorium Theatre. They were great to listen to, you were great to be a part of!
Dinner, 4 CDs and 5 T-shirts in addition to the 7 concert tickets later . . . I shared some of your Youtube clips with online friends around the world - One friend in Boston may look you up the next time you play there - just missed you this time.

Was at this show, it was great. I've been to a lot of concerts but this was my first time seeing GBS, it will not be my last. I was hoping someone had the setlist??
GBS played 2 full sets - not sure if this is something they normally do?
All in all it was a great time!
I was lucky enough to see their show at the Chatham Capitol Theatre in Chatham, ON, on Oct. 2, 2010. It was an amazing show. It was an experience to finally see a show at the Capitol Theatre since it opened after the restoration. I'm from the small town of Ridgetown which is about 20 minutes south east of Chatham. Our town is classified as the 'Friendliest Town In Ontario', so it was nice to hear that the guys were met with friendly people throughout their stay in Chatham-Kent. The theatre was sold out and everyone was on their feet for the entire two sets. It was nice to experience the interaction they had with the crowd and each other. Nobody I was with or talked to afterwards, had anything bad to say about the show. I truly hope that the Capitol will ask them back cuz if they do I will be there.

Second time seeing GBS. Excellent show, real performers who appear to love what they do.
As usual we don't always get to hear all of our favorites but the sets had a good mix of old and new. Looking forward to the next visit, maybe two nights at the Michigan Theatre, eh?

This was my fifth Great Big Sea concert and by far the best. The band keeps getting better and better every time they come back to Ohio. My husband and I drove 3 hours to see the concert and it was definitely worth it! I also took my 13 year old niece to the concert. She loves Great Big Sea and it was her first concert ever. We look forward to many more Ohio concerts in the future :)
Wow, what can I say. 2 hours plus of music, humor, and ad libs (O-H-I-O). It was the bands first trip to Kent Stage and they warned us that you only have one chance for a first impression. Well, it was love at the first note. They played their hearts out and the crowd was on their feet for nearly the entire show. Bob mentioned several time that he was impressed that the venue was sold out to the doors and the crowd was ready for a great time. When the crowd yelled out for their favorite songs, Bob assured them that they were going to play all their Big Hits. A great mix of the new stuff and inspired old favorites. The chemistry is still there. I can assure you that this wan't my first show and will definately not be my last. The one word that comes to mind when I hear GBS is entertainment.
O-H-I-O

Chicagoans,
Can't anyone write a great letter about this concert? I've tried and been deemed unworthy, I guess. Also, I cannot remember every song they played, though I'm pretty sure I'm close to remembering most of them.
Old Black Rum, Mari Mac, Run Runaway (!!), Goin Up, As Fast As I Can, Long Life, Nothing But a Song (awesome a capella harmony on that one!), Yankee Sailor, Good People, Dear Home Town, Safe Upon the Shore, Gallows Pole, Don't Wanna Go Home, Ordinary Day, ?Rant and Roar?. My ride made me leave before your encore, so I'm hoping you played at least Have a Cuppa Tea! That is such a fun song as you guys are such an amazingly fun group. Please come back soon, even if this doesn't make cyber -publishing. Ta....
Your concert was amazing, adept, totally talented, and extremely energetic. I read reviews of your concerts and everyone says (basically) the same thing. It's incredible that you have this deep well of creativity and energy that keeps you going, but it shows. Everyone was very engaged at your concert, singing along.... though I think I was the only one dancing. Who cares??
An absolutely wonderful time and my friends and I will never miss another one of your concerts!
xoxo RB
Outragously fun concert!! I had never heard of you until my parents got back from a big trip out East. They found Natalie MacMaster was playing at Suicide Six in Vermont & being huge Natalie fans, they made sure they stopped & saw her. They were totally amazed by you guys & I was blown away! There were about 8 of us who had never heard of you before and we had a wonderful time. Please come back sooner than in one year!
P.S. How do you get the amazing energy you have night after night? It felt like you had come to Chicago to play just for us and had to head home after the show.
Just got home from your concert & my eardrums are roaring! Really lost some hearing tonight but it was worth it. Great concert, as usual, and a whole bunch of friends came with us tonight and are now huge GBS fans. Thanks guys, you are all so talented & entertaining!

SHOW REVIEWS:
What a great show. I always enjoy seeing them and they always seem to enjoy playing the twin cities. Based on our count, they covered every of their 10 albums save one (their self-titled beginning). They know their fans and did a great job of mixing the favorites in with the new material. All of it meshed to create a great GBS feel throughout. They played 2 sets and each felt like a great representation. One memory that will never leave me would be the interpretive dance done by a particularly non-self-concious fan during "Helmethead". Thanks for that. I only had one disappointment - and this doesn't change my opinion of the show. Up until now, every GBS show I've seen ends with "Old Brown's Daughter" in acapella. Overall, it was a great time, a great night and a great opportunity to see GBS yet another time. Thanks - Chad in Willmar

This was my fifth GBS show and I think you guys keep getting better with every passing year. I love not only hearing you perform the songs, but also hearing the story behind the songs. For example, Alan and Bob explaining the history behind "Yankee Sailor".
The funniest part of the show was Alan explaing the taste of the Stella Artois that he was drinking, "It's like they melted an angel and put it in the bottle." To which Sean replied, "An angel died so that you could have that drink." Just classic stuff.
I'm looking forward to the return show in January...January in Edmonton...why?!?!?!
Great job guys!
James
Another amazing concert! I've lost count on how many I've been to but I'm always waiting for the next one to be announced! My first one was at Dalhousie University in Halifax. And I think you guys are as awesome as you were in the beginning! So down to earth and real...I just love the whole experience! My only disappointment was that the people around us weren't as dedicated fans as us and didn't get up and dance like fools! Next time.... and there will be a next time!
I love you guys! Don't ever change! I'll be one of your biggest fans for the next 17 years!
Thanks for being you!
Logan (Age 7) would like to thank Alan and the rest of the band for a great show last night. I really got into your groove. Thank you again for the pick thought it was really cool. I do hope I get to see you guys again. Until the next time we meet again.

While this was the 4th time seeing my favourite Canadian band, this was the best performance yet. No opening act, and so 2 full sets were cranked out for all the Guelph fans. An awesome mix of old and new material was played with the kind of enthusiam from the band that would lead you to believe it was the first time these guys have played live. Truly embrace the fans love. While I'm into all brands of music, these guys are such a breath of fresh air from what we are beat over the heads with as far as main stream music goes.....especially when it comes to the live performances. The positive energy this music brings is simply rare in the music world. Keep it up boys. Awesome stuff

The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor - Fri, Nov 26, 2010
Fairly standard GBS show. Fortunately, the GBS standard is very high and this show was right up there with their best. I went with a friend who works at Caesars. He has seen many shows at the Colosseum and heard reports from Caesars' customers on many more. He commented he had never seen a Caesars' crowd so engaged at a show at the Colosseum; most of the crowd was on their feet from start to finish. Like I said, a standard GBS show.
This was my third gbs show, And every time the boys from out east give a hell of a show!!! They put so much energy and passion, and the crowd definitely reflects it.. I found my way to the front, and couldn't be happier that I did :)

If there is a group that gives you more entertainment for your dollar I have not seen nor heard them. If you have not seen them live I suggest you do at the first chance you get. They were born to be on stage. Another great show Thanks guys.
This was my fifth Great Big Sea concert. This time I was lucky enough to be front row. I had the best time of my life, cannot wait to do it again.
Wow! That sums up every Great Big Sea concert I've ever been to and this one was no exception.
I enjoyed the fact that they had no opening act. Alan made it clear that this was going to be the best Monday of our lives! Who needed Friday, or Saturday, or any other day for that matter. He also assured us we'd get two complete set lists.
This was by far the best Monday night I'd had in quite some time and the length of the concert made this an amazing value! There was even time for a refreshment intermission!
They played new songs such as Yankee Sailor and old favorites such as Donkey Riding, and even had time in the middle for a medley of Canadian artist music such as If I Had a Million Dollars and Summer of '69.
I had amazing seats in the second row and was pleased with the fact that the guys weren't back too far on the stage. This made the whole thing seem interactive and personal.
When they finished off the entire concert with a brief rendition of Rant and Roar, that truly made it an experience that should not have been missed. I can't wait for the next show!

That was the greatest concert I have ever been to, all their new songs were amazing live.
Absolutely fantastic show guys.... (as usual of course.) GBS concerts give me this sort of inner fire that burns bright for weeks following. Can't wait for your return. Alan was absolutely adorable playing right to that little boy in the crowd and giving him his guitar pick! That kid will remember that for the rest of his life.

OMGosh Boys !!!! Awesome. I am orginallly from Newfie but now living in Arkansas USA and drove home to Toronto to see family for New Years and couldn't believe that you all and Bare Naked Ladies were playing together on the Falls. After my 18 hrs of drive, i packed up our behinds and off to Niagara Falls we go. How we found a hotel I have no idea, guess we were meant to be there.!!! I apologize to all the people in the crowd because it took me an hour but made it to about 10 feet off the stage. THANK YOU, I needed a piece of home, and you gave it to me. My husband (who unfortuniately didn't understand most of what you all said because of the "accent" and talking so fast) said It was the best gift he had because i never stopped smillin' the whole evening. He did however know every word and sang along to "Rant and Roar". Bravo!!! May 2011 knock your socks off!
WOW!!! Another great show, my friends and I had an insanely awsome time and what a way to ring in 2011 with what I can only say is the greatest band on earth! Would not have missed it for the world. The boys looked great, sounded even better, and kept the crowd dancing, and singing along as usual. Met tons of GOOD PEOPLE!! (One of my favorites off the new album) so glad they played it! As we made our way back to our hotel room through the sea of people you could still hear people singing and see them dancing to their favorite GBS songs! The enormous crowd just didn't seem to matter. This gave me nothing but good vibes for 2011 its going to be a great year! Cheers and Happy New Year to you all! Great job once again!

This was a spectacular show! Our two daughters enjoyed it as much as we did. We would like to know when the CBC Special will be broadcasted. Your show made me homesick for the rock and I can't wait to see you on George Street on July 28th.
I went to both shows in Edmonton this tour and this show was the better of the two! Can't wait to see the CBC Special that we were told was being recorded during the concert. Would love to experience it all over again!
I had an awesome time! This show was even better than the show in October. Many of my favourites were sung - Consequence Free, When I Am King, Clearest Indication, A Boat Like Gideon Brown, Nothing But a Song...oh, and of course the acapella ones...Safe Upon the Shore and River Driver. It was my own little piece of heaven to just sit and listen! The boys did not disappoint in entertainment value...often interacting with the audience and telling their stories. They came out for two encores, always showing their gratitude. Too bad it had to end! Thanks again for another night....'til the next time!

HAHA !!!! Long time fan... since Sea Of No Cares was released. Show was awesome guys! Our schedules finally meshed in Clearwater! I only hope you come back!!!! My only wish at a venue this small is that you would have done a meet and greet!! So anyway thank you soooo much for an awesome evening. You did not dissapoint!!!!
Enjoyed the show very much. The boys showed a lot of energy performing two sets with a short intermission inbetween.
Considering the Capital Theatre was small, I would have preferred that the speakers were turned down a little but that's me. People were out of their seats and on their feet the whole evening.
Thanks guys! All the best with your future tour.
This was my 4th GBS concert (Ravinia, IL / San Francisco, CA / Seattle, WA & last night). This was far and away the BEST! The Capitol Theater is a small venue that held about 700 people for the sold-out event. I would be surprised if there were 10 who did not know the words to most of the songs. The crowd was "ranting and roaring" as the band took the stage and did not stop for the entire evening.
There was a wonderful mix of new and old songs. Sean was fantastic on Safe Upon the Shore. General Taylor damned near brought the house down physically. Everyone was singing the chorus. Yankee Sailor was incredible. The whole house rocked with "Rant and Roar" during the encore.
My wife and I brought 2 friends who were not familiar with GBS. They are now dedicated fans. It was a fabulous evening that will be remembered.

SHOW REVIEWS:
Saw GBS last night at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. The venue is a converted church. It is a small, intimate venue (approx 450 people), which was nice. Seating consisted of folding chairs locked together in rows, which was not so nice. The acoustics were pretty good (this was the inaugural concert at this venue so they did a good job without any real bugs).
Now to more important things, that being GBS and the music. In a word, AWESOME. As a Canadian living in Florida, I was ecstatic when I heard that the boys were coming to Florida. Then to find out that they were playing in such an intimate venue, my excitement grew.
Despite the fact that I had very high expectations in advance of the show, GBS far exceeded those expectations.
Energy - outstanding
Stage presence - Outstanding, great interaction with the crowd (the last time I saw this many Canadians in one place in Florida was at a Tragically Hip concert at the HOB in Orlando a few years back). They bring so much energy. There was humorous banter to and with the audience as well as each other. It was all about music and fun and they created such a great atmosphere
Musicianship - outstanding, amazing harmonies
Set list - Outstanding. With so many great songs in their repertoire, it would be pretty much impossible for them to fit all of their songs that I like into one show (even though they played for more than two hours). I would like to have heard Bad as I Am because I just learned to play that song last week, but no complaints regarding the set list
Other - Two full sets, at least 2 and one half hours on stage, never a dull moment, small, intimate venue, who could ask for more
This show easily places among my top 10 concert experiences. I hope very much that GBS will come back to Jacksonville or some other Florida venue in the near future.
Great Show GBS - THANK YOU!

SHOW REVIEWS:
The boys were in RARE form -- all the solos were outstanding. Alan's sexy baritone, Sean's sexy tenor, and Bob's beautiful ballad -- not to mention Murray's basso profundo (!) were all spot on! (And your drummer (Chris?) was great, too.)Alan's stories of watching The Lord of the Rings on the tour bus punctuated the night with fun, and his account of CT kindnesses at the Toy Chest and being driven to get some indoor exercise gave an intimate look at a "day in the life" that was immensely appreciated by all. Singing along to the hits was a blast, and, as usual, no one sat in his/her seat for more than a small handful of songs all night. I bought a pin and a beater and was wearing my GBS green mermaid shirt, so I'm doing my part for the GBS kids' college fund! Question: How can I find out about extended tour plans? Someday I really want to travel to St. John and see the guys perform in their own backyard. In the meantime, I was hoping maybe to catch them again this summer somewhere. I've only seen them 3x -- HARDLY enough. Oh and btw, I wonder if they ever ask the audience--by a show of hands--where they're from. Because Ridgefield certainly wasn't just Ridgefield. We only drove an hour to get there, but it would have been fun to see how far people had come to get there. Anyway, thanks for a SMASHING concert experience. O-u-t-s-t-a-n-d-i-n-g!!!

The show was AMAZING!!!!
There are no words to describe it.
It was the best concert i have ever been to. My friend and I were dancing the whole time!
Yes, I was lucky enough to be at this show!! :-) This was my 5th time seeing GBS live and, I didn't think it was possible but, I love this band more and more after every show! I was also lucky enough to meet and have my picture taken with Alan afterward which was AWESOME!!! I already can't wait till the next time I get to see them!
You guys took Moncton....blew the roof off the Casino.....Great Big Sea made Great Big Waves ...absolutely had a blast....
Awesome guys! Just awesome once again! It had been a few years since I last went to one GBS's shows, and the boys are as great as ever! I was expecting my son at one of those shows, he is 11 now, and he joined me last night. It was his first concert, so he was pretty pumped, being a budding rock star himself. He went right up front and sang and danced and cheered his heart out for the whole show! Alan blessed him with a guitar pick and a high five, and that made his life (so far), and he managed to snag the set list by Alan's mike at the end of the show. It was an incredible, high energy show that we won't soon forget, and my boy can't wait until the next one!
Thanks Great Big Sea for making last night one to remember!
What a great show you put on last night in Moncton! So much energy! It was the first concert for our girls (Age 9 & 8) and they had a blast! We are all big fans! My youngest yelled out "Charlie Horse" a few times hoping you would perform her favorite song! LOL! Please come back soon! Better yet, come visit us in Miramichi.....where ye tie up to a tree....an' the girls sit on yer knee.....riding on a donkey! Enjoy the rest of your tour!!!!!

What a super way to spend 2011 St Patty's Day, seeing GBS live in concert! My wife and I are from Hershey PA area, and we planned a vacation out to Monterey and Carmel, CA just to attend this concert. We attended a special Irish dinner before the concert at this very nice theatre where we met many GBS virgins -- they were very surprised that we had traveled gthe 2,500 miles out from PA just for the concert!
The Boys did not disappoint and were on their game that night, playing a real mix of old and new songs from the current album. We totally enjoyed the concert and our California travels. Waiting for them to announce another visit to Filene Center - Wolftrap in Vienna, VA this summer, but does not look like it is going to happen -- too bad as 2010 GBS put on a tremendous show and we brought 4 new virgins to enjoy the music and they played ALL of their great songs. Rock on boys as the tunes and music are always great!!!!

Loved the show! This was our second show with GBS and once again, they did not disappoint. Such energy, talent, enthusiasm and humor! Introduced some terrific new songs from the new album as well as the favorites. Lots of the fans know the tunes and sing along with much enthusiasm. The harmonies on the slower songs are beautiful. A false fire drill at the end of the performance was handled with good humor by the band and led to our own "kitchen party" for the encore, with fans dancing in front of the stage.
Thanks again for the great music GBS!!!!

What a fantastic time! I just saw you in Calgary in October, but was so excited to hear that you were coming back through Banff, I picked up my tickets right away. Not only was the music great, but the venue could not have been more beautiful! Yesterday was the 13th time I saw GBS in concert and you deliver every time. The crowd was dancing and singing and the atmosphere was just pure fun. Loved it.
We happened to have the luck to run into Alan at the Rose and Crown afterwards, and although I felt bad about interrupting his personal time, I did it anyway (sorry). I even got a picture (yay)! What a nice, personable fellow, who clearly appreciates and generously makes time for fans. That made my day! (truthfully, it probably made my month as most ordinary days aren't nearly that exciting)
Anyway, to sum up, another amazing show. You guys keep on playing and I will keep on showing up for it. Thank you so much for the music - you guys rock!

SHOW REVIEWS:
I took my kids to this show, because we live in Arizona and saw the March show in Mesa, they said it was the best night if their lives!
My boys are 13 and 6 so being Canadian we decided to make summer vacation Toronto and a trip to Belleville to recreate " the best night of their lives", GBS music has always been their music from birth so they know every word and sing and dance along, they introduced all their American friends to GBS music cranked on the ice for hockey practice in the desert!
They have decided we need to incorporate a GBS into every vacation. Although we would travel to see a show we would love to see a return show in the Arizona desert. Both boys met Alan and he was gracious enough to sign their tickets and a set list and pose for a picture which they now have a their screen saver, they both said once again that THIS was the best night ever. And Mom did too, it's music that is good for the soul. As long as you are singing, we are coming to dance. Thanks so much. Tammy
Once again the boys do not disappoint. This is the 5th time we have seen them here in Ontario in the past 3 years and they have yet to let us down. The heat was crazy and so was the show. They played all our favorites. I have to say the GBS is one of the best live show groups I have ever seen. Just one question: When are you coming back? Please hurry.
Everything we were expecting and more, great energy and good fun. There is nothing like seeing your favorite bands in a small venue. I think GBS loved it too!
Found out DVD was recorded at the Empire theatre so ordered it today can't wait to crank it up at home.
Take Care
Troy
How can I say anything less that AMAZINGLY ENTERTAINING! The Trews were tight as always and the best appetizer you could have before the Boys hit the stage.
The crowd was into it from the beginning and what a beautiful night. I said it when they filmed inside the Empire Theatre and will say it now. Belleville LOVES GBS and we are grateful to have both bands here in our small city. Alan gave picks to my friends sons and they will rave about it for years to come. From screaming teens to older folks, they are a band for all and their music and character make Canadians proud! Please come back next year or whenever you like. You'll always be welcome in our town!
Thanks for stopping by and giving us one of the best kitchen parties we've ever had!
