NEW CD "FORTUNE'S FAVOUR" 6/24
OK, so Alan told us to look for the new album in early 2008. He's told us they've been in the studio recording some demos for the new album. Anyone who got to a Spring show was treated to 3 new tunes. I am going to guess that we'll see Walk On The Moon, Straight To Hell, and Hold on For Your Life/Here We Go Again on the new album. In the discussion posted in MEDIA, there sounds like a possibility of getting Downtown Girl too So my question is: Has anyone else heard of any other new tunes the guys have been working on, playing, or whatever? I also wonder if this will be a mix of trad/orig or all original material. We discused what Traditional songs they could cover...wonder if we'll get Jack-A-Roe (my suggestion) or any of the others suggested in that thread. Wanna guess at what tracks we'll get?

There was one other new tune that I did hear in Kalamazoo during the Spring run. I believe it was called "Where I Belong" or something like that. If memory serves, I think Alan referenced it in his FTR after that show. Performance wise, it was an Alan solo (ala Lucky You, Lucky Me) and it was an encore. It was a really beautiful song! K.

Downtown Girl is the name of a Jim Fidler song the b'ys have been known to sing on occasion. Jim was a member of Rankin Street or some variation thereof before Alan came along. Now he is a record producer, singer/songwriter, podcast producer and wonderful musician in his own right. check out www.jimfidler.com and the ROAR, Republic of Avalon Radio at www.republicofavalonradio.com. The words? Well, one fine day in the month of June She's a Downtown Girl, She's a get-around girl I firgured that I'd write me a silly little tune She's a Downtown Girl for sure. She likes wakin' up with her hair messed up She's a Downtown Girl, She's a get-around girl She likes wakin' up with her hair messed up She's a Downtown Girl for sure I took her to the tavern for to have a pint of beer She's a Downtown Girl, She's a get-around girl She was dancin' and flirtin' with everyone there. She's a Downtown Girl for sure So we went to the Regatta for to see the goin's on She's a Downtown Girl, She's a get-around girl I took a look around when I looked back she was gone She's a Downtown Girl for sure She likes wakin' up with her hair messed up She's a Downtown Girl, She's a get-around girl She likes wakin' up with her hair messed up She's a Downtown Girl for sure So I went to her house to meet her mother and her father She's a Downtown Girl, she's a get-around girl When I got to the door, they confused me with another She's a Downtown Girl for sure Oh, She likes wakin' up with her hair messed up She's a Downtown Girl, She's a get-around girl She likes wakin' up with her hair messed up She's a Downtown Girl for sure.
Alan, Sean and Bob sing it with Con O'Brien on the Irish Descendants new CD. Anne

Moses015:They should so do Barret's Privateers or something like that.
LOL!I think in an interview years ago they said they'd ask someone to shoot them before they sang Barrett's Privateers again. Maybe they sang it too much during their teething days in Halifax. Anne

They sang Barrett's Privateers at their last Halifax show, I didn't know the song, but the rest of the audience sure did. I felt kind of silly not being able to sing along, it was like a Halifax secret that I did not know! LOL

Was just re-reading some old posts and came across this from an interview with Alan in a Kalamazoo paper back in March... "The new music probably won't be released on recordings until early 2008, and Doyle said he sees it being rowdier than anything the group has done. Each song will still come from members' personal experience, however." ... and I just have to add "Yippee!!" K.

Hope also that there's some info on each song on the cd liner, ie, who wrote it and the personal history of each particular song. I find that's always an interesting read when bands give us that info.

first... let me second ana's "give us the story behind the songs" and second, let me third Kim's "YIPPEEEE!" ROWDIER THAN ANYTHING THEY'VE EVER DONE BEFORE? Right On!
I guess that's what Alan was saying when he said the new album will Rock Planet Earth.... From Alan's FTR April 19th: "GBS is working hard on demos for the new CD. It will Rock Planet Earth. Cheers, A."
oooo. I kinda' like that as an album title...i can see a topo map of planet earth with an arrow pointing at it saying Planet Earth, and another arrow labled ROCK, pointing at Newfoundland "ROCK"... "PLANET EARTH" ETA: I went off and doodled up my idea...sort of...but I didn't have a true topo map/satellite photo handy. The best thing would be to have a view of the earth from space, with the depths of the universe surrounding it.
eta: ACK! Where have all the colors gone? Oh well, you get the idea!

"ROCK"... "PLANET EARTH" Excellent! Love your "topo map" idea - lots of fun! Seeing as how I'm just wishing anyway, I'd want lots of pics of the boys on the cd liner too. Only cause they're all very handsome and wishes are free! Can't blame a girl ...
