Great Big Sea, Great Big Sea. It's time you made a book of all the folk songs of Newfoundland. You see all kinds of books on Scottish and Irish folk songs. You just might be the FIRST EVER to make a book of Newfoundland folk songs. Now a book like that wouldn't be a national bestseller, ofcourse, but that's not why your making it. Make it to preserve all those great songs and share them with the world. You've done that with your music, sure, but there's a lot of stuff your missing with only being able to do what can fit on a CD. If you don't do it(since it would be a time consuming process), maybe notify someone, because a lot of people would like it.

Well, Gerald S. Doyle did a series of them (actually interspersing the songs with ads for products like baby powder), which is where the b'ys get some of theirs. In 2003, Genevieve Lehr pulled together a nice collection of 120! But a comprehensive collection would probably require multiple volumes!

There's a book that I recently got called "Ballads and Sea Songs of Newfoundland" by Greensleaf & Mansfield, published by Harvard U. Press, 1933. It contains several hundred songs, including some reprinted from Gerard S. Doyle's pamphlets.
