Parrothead turned Kitchen-Partyite!
Hey y'all --
Just thought I'd stick my nose in here and say 'hello' -- I've been ghosting for a while. I was introduced to GBS over the summer, and now I can't get enough of the music!
I'm a longtime Jimmy Buffett fan (*ducking to avoid thrown objects*), and I'm finding myself loading the MP3 player with more GBS and less JB these days. I'm also a guitarist, and GBS is making their way into my musical vocabulary, too (although how they play that fast and stay in time is really a mystery to me!). I've always been a fan of under-the-radar Celt-rock bands like 4 To The Bar, Seven Nations, and Enter the Haggis, but this is the first time I've actually found myself addicted to a particular band. I'm bummed that I missed the summer tour, but hey, there's always next summer, right?
Anyhow, looking forward to being part of th'OKP!
Greg (on MD's Eastern Shore)
P.S. We Buffett fans call ourselves Parrotheads -- is there a nickname for GBS fans?

Hello and welcome Greg! Glad you turned corporeal - so to speak.
It's hard not to be overcome by GBS's charms! Talented buggers they be! Don't know much Jimmy Buffett so I won't be throwing anything atcha.
Hope to see you around the kitchen often!
Liz

Re: Parrothead turned Kitchen-Partyite!
I have always felt there was a connection between Jimmy Buffett and GBS. I'm a long time Buffett fan, and a fan of GBS for the last seven years. Both understand that the concert experience should involve the audience and be lots of fun.Whether it's putting your hands together over your head and waving them in the JB song "Fins" or pumping your fist in the air on the GBS song "Old Black Rum", these artists know how to grab an audience.
And speaking of Jimmy Buffett,I just got home from the Katrina fund raising concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC. AMAZING. Jimmy Buffett, Paul Simon ( solo and with Garfunkle), Dave Matthews, Elton John, The Neville Brothers, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, John Fogerty and more. Plus appearances by Bill Clinton, Paul Newman among others to introduce acts. Guess I better get some sleep. Dougie MacLean tomorrow night back in NYC, not to mention Glengarry Bhoys, Old Blind Dogs and Prodigals Satuday and Sunday in Bethlehem, PA.

Hi Greg! Welcome to the kitchen! It's a great place and you're definitely among friends, so at least we'll warn you before we throw things at you.
GBS fans don't have an official title, but I think it's because we don't stop dancing long enough to get labelled. Might be an interesting thread....
Cheers!

Welcome to the kitchen Greg! I'm pretty new here as well but I can safely say that these are a great bunch of folks! I like the idea of having a collective name for the group of us. Maybe a play on the band's name "Great Big ??" or maybe a play on just the initals?? There are some very creative people around so I'm sure we could come up with some ideas. Cheers!

Re: Parrothead turned Kitchen-Partyite!
Thanks, y'all, for the warm welcome! It's good to be a part of things... Howard, thanks for making me understand that I'm not as crazy as I thought. I'm hoping to catch GBS in concert next summer when they come through this area. The live recordings sound like a blast! The only things that party in my kitchen are my 10-month-old daughter and, occasionally, little tiny ants. Somehow neither stikes me as a good moniker for GBS fans. I'll keep skulling on that. Again, thanks, and party on! Greg
