    Concertina help.

I'm at my parent's house for Thanksgiving, and found an old concertina in the closet. it's still in good shape and I want to learn to play it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Loula

    Re: Concertina help.

What tuning is your concertina? Mine is G/C - click here for fingering chart. I'm afraid I can't give much more advice beyond that. I just try to mess around with simpler tunes on it, nothing fancy. I haven't done too much with it. If you want to try a dvd, Homespun Tapes usually has a good selection for trad instruments.

    Re: Concertina help.

Unless that you're certain that you have an Anglo C/G concertina, the Homespun Tapes DVD may be of little or no use to you.  Is your concertina uni- or bisonoric, that is, does it play the same or different notes when you push and pull?  Wikipedia has a page on the concertina at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concertina, perhaps that will help you determine what you have, and there are also several links to concertina websites at the bottom of the page.  But if you have a unisonoric concertina, the DVD isn't going to help you.
