Greetings ~ It occurred to me at the Portsmouth show Friday night that it would be great to hear the band at some point in their banter mention that they have this awesome spot online. I spoke with people all around me at the show and none of them had ever been here. Some were new fans, but others have been following the band for some time. (The man in front of me had a 1999 concert shirt on. He, his wife and two kids knew all the words to all of the songs, too.) We talked about new songs the band has been trying out at other shows and Sean's little video on the bus. The guy next to me asked if I was a friend of the band. I laughed and said 'I wish!' and why did he think that? He wondered how I knew about what they were singing on the bus. It's on the internet, I told him. Sean on Twitter and ooodles of photos and clips that people post here after shows. Anyway, it might be nice for them to drop that tidbit when they have hundreds of fans assembled before them. Don't assume they all know about gbs.com. I know I've been amazed at the number of other fans I've come across and how dedicated they are to sharing their experiences. Cheers,

Excellent point, Lisa. A subtle "check us out at greatbigsea.com" would certainly get people's attention. I saw them on Sunday night, and either Sean or Alan just mentioned that they were selling CDs in the lobby, and poor Glenn was bombarded. I have never seen CDs sell like they did that night (I guess I might have not payed attention in the past!) And as incredibly dweeby as it would be, I would love it if they sold an OKP shirt or pin or something that we could all wear to a pre-show or post-show meet up. On Sunday night, I was happy to see a few OKPeeps, but I know that there were more there that I missed entirely. I think someone had made nametags at some point. That was a really great idea. Maybe a shirt with "GREATBIGSEA.COM" written across the back would draw people to the site and the OKP. Keep these great ideas coming, Lisa!

It's there. But it's subtle. And many people these days download music from itunes, etc. and don't get the disc to hold in their hands (I pity them - I like the pictures and the liner notes). I did my part to tell people I talked with last week about the site and all of the cool things here - like the guys' blogs. How much fun are those to read? When I see a new one posted, I hesitate sometimes if I'm in a rush because I want to read them slowly and enjoy them. I'll save it to read later as a treat at the end of the day. OK, I need a life ... I like the idea of some way to i.d. OKP folks at a show. It would be fun to match names and faces. I'm already brainstorming some fun ideas for when (not if) the band plays in Vermont next! What happens after November - do we all go in withdrawal while they go into the recording studio? It will be a long winter ...

There are t-shirts available in the on-line store that, I thought, were created for the on-line community. As I recall, they were designed through a competition and chosen by the b'ys themselves. And I thought the purpose was to help us identify ourselves. There are two designs. I guess they never really caught on, although I know I saw one at the St. Catharines show. I'm not a big fan of the square t-shirt, myself. They never seem to have a very flattering fit. At any rate, the shirts don't actually say greatbigsea.com or OKP or anything else that would direct people here. At the end of the St Catharines show, someone shouted "on-line kitchen party" which raised a cheer. Alan didn't quite catch it, so it was repeated. He repeated the phrase and there was another cheer. Unfortunately, if you hadn't been here already, the phrase would mean nothing and there was no further explanation available... This is a great place to be; it's too bad more people don't know about it. and yes, it will be a long winter...hopefully, more frequent blogging can appease us...

Ok - I hope this is the right place to post this ... here's a crazy idea that came to me as I pondered Carol's reply about the drought we face over the winter as the boys work on new tunes. I thought, I wish I could get out west to visit friends in Wash. for a show. I wish I could be a fly on the wall as a couple of them go to their first GBS concert. Then I thought, heck, it's 2009 why *can't* we all be flies on the wall? How about a webcast of a November concert? I would pay for that .... I'm thinking a live feed of a show via a link on the website. If that's too complicated (and it would be late for those of us on the east coast) how about a video *after* the show? Yes, I know that would cost money to have it recorded and linked, etc. But how much could that cost? Couldn't the cost be recouped with a pay-per-view type arrangement? Call me greedy. It's fun to watch the clips people take at concerts. I'm just imagining a longer version of those YouTube moments. Cheers,

Actually Carol, that woman was sitting next to me and she yelled out, "All night kitchen party", but all the better if the okpers in the crowd thought it was about this wonderful place. For my summer OKP party, I made a shirt for the winner of a game that says, 'Great Big Sea and the OKP, grab a chair and raise a jar'. Considering that the winner of the shirt wears it to each event since the party, that's great advertising too!

As for the Washington shows I'll do my best to film as much as I can at the shows I'm at. I make no promises for the Olympia Show as I will be in the balcony with 15 other friends as we celebrate our friend Henry's 21st birthday.
