    Pictures from Cabot Tower/Signal Hill

Hello! My fiance and I just moved to Paradise, Newfoundland a few weeks ago so that I can attend grad school at MUN (yay, folklore!) We went to Cabot Tower/Signal Hill and these are the pics- http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2048147&id=209101832&l=2a783926bf It was so beautiful, and so totally different than anything we would see in Iowa, where we're originally from. If anyone has been to Newfoundland lately and can think of other neat places for us to go, please let me know-- especially if it's free!

You look like you're having a great time. I'm so jealous. Been wishing for a long time that I could move there.

You need to go to Cape Spear. there is a charge to go in the old light house but that is not the most impressive part of the cape to me anyway the view is amazing and there are old cannons there as well. I was in Newfoundland last summer I really enjoyed walking around downtown and going into old Junk/ Antique type stores. I found some interesting old books for very little money. There is a really interesting one in Quidi Vidi Village.

Since you're in Paradise, if you haven't had a chance to take the ferry from Portugal Cove out to Bell Island, it's a great trip.  You can take a tour of the old iron mine, but if that's not your cup of tea, there are lovely walking trails all along the headlands--great spots for a picnic and berry picking.  For that matter, there are great trails all along the Avalon coast and beyond--get a map from one of the Provincial offices or see here:  http://www.newfoundlandlabrador.com/HikingAndWalking/Trails.aspx -- on this score, at least, the Canadian government is way ahead of the U.S.  And it's all free.  Enjoy!
