Out of the mouths of two-year-olds

So several of my friends have children these days, and in particular, two of these kids are two-year-olds Lily and Moira. They and their parents have all come over for tabletop gaming at our place a couple times over the last couple weeks, and it's fallen to me to entertain the smalls. Which I'm happy with--I like these kids.

Especially when they tell me things like "We wanna hear Donkey Riding!" ;)

They are, you see, very, very enamored of the Great Big DVD, and in particular, the opening song. It hasn't yet occurred to them that there are MORE SONGS on the thing, aside from when I skipped ahead to "Lukey"--or, as Moira calls it, "the boat song". Lily however now replies "Great Big Sea!" when I ask her who sings "Donkey Riding". Although she's a little wobbly on the concept of which label goes with the song and which goes with the band--when she saw the background picture on my open laptop, she said "That's a picture of Donkey Riding!"

I am informed by Lily's mother (Kathryn, of Murkjam fame) that her child has now started demanding "Donkey Riding" whenever she catches her playing other songs. She came in on her mother the other day playing a cover of a George Harrison song and said "Not that one! I want Donkey Riding!"

Clearly, this is a child after my own heart, for I have indeed been heard to say those very words myself.

    :)

     way to go, anna!

ok, so here's my personal gem, out of the mouth of my 4-year-old. she's got to the point where she knows there's a bob, and a séan and an alan, and sometimes a kris and a murray. so far so good. the other day while watching the C+P+G DVD  she went very quiet on 'The scolding wife'. 5 Minutes later she said: 'Mama, what does that mean '' I swear to God I'll hang myself if I get Murrayed again''? What's Murray done?'

    Oh dear me *chuckle*

I'm glad to know other people's toddlers know GBS too. My 2 1/2 year old loves to dance and watch the videos. "These guys make nice music," she'll say. We listen to the boys in the car much of the time and little Anna's top requests are "Walk on the Moon," right up there with "Lovebug" off the Jonas Brothers record her two tween sisters sneak into the cd player when I'm not looking.

My favorite was a few months ago when I had her snuggled on my lap ready to fall asleep and I asked her if I could sing to her. She nodded yes with half-closed eyes. "Sing England," she said. Thank you Sean, for what's become our favorite lullabye!

Aww, LisaVt, that's sweet. England is a good lullabye for all of us I think. Certainly works for me when I can't sleep. Your daughter sounds like a sweetie!
