March 13, 2009 - According to Merry Men troubadour Alan-a-Dale, there will be singing a-plenty in director Ridley Scott's re-imagining of
Robin Hood, which begins filming April 1 in Britain.
Canadian folk rocker and Great Big Sea front man Alan Doyle, who was cast as Robin Hood's wandering minstrel cohort because he's friends with the film's star Russell Crowe, told MTV that his character is "an Irish lute playing balladeer. He's an artist
who loves to sing a song. With two or three other guys, Alan-a-Dale is
one of the Merry Men who's followed Robin Hood for a long time and
hopes to continue to do so. Yes, I will be playing the lute in the
film."
Doyle added, "There is a lot of singing in the film. ... A lot of
it by different people in different parts of the film. I don't know
quite yet if Russell and I will be singing together. But there will be
lots of music in the film."
Robin Hood is slated for a May 14, 2010 release.
