    We Love Kris!

OK, I did a bit of sleuthing to find something really obscure to start us off:

From a page about his work on Dream a Little Dream, the nearly strue story of The Mamas & The Papas!

    Hey Col Smile

My favourite Kris moment was in Park City this year.

He seemed to be getting really ticked that people were not standing so he came out into the crowd and started pointing at people with his drumsticks and saying "Get up Get up!"

It was quite funny. He walked right next to me and I said " Way to go Kris" he just smiled and continued on.

    he was really great.

I think he is 'tude of the group LOL

    Re: We Love Kris!

He is so versatile! I think he and Bob should have a trade instruments night. That should be real interesting...

Kris is a very personable guy. We had an opportunity to speak with him at length when GBS was at the Southport Sea thing in NYC. After the show, he, Alan and Darrell stood outside the bus to chat with fans for a bit. All the b'ys were extremely easy to talk to. We exchanged with Darrell our parent's pet names to call us when they were mad, got some confirmation by Alan on a statement he had supposedly made, and had a really long talk with Kris, looking at photos that Howard & Cheryl and we had brought with us. I couldn't get over how wonderfully friendly he was! That was the first opportunity I had to talk with him after he started touring with GBS. He mentioned that this was the first band where he wasn't required to sing. I notice they've finally gotten him a microphone! Yay, Kris!!

    Re: We Love Kris!

Awesome link Col - I never really knew any background for Kris at all.

Anne...that is also a great story. Kris seems very quiet and funny. If you ever watch him during shows, sometimes he stands back and makes faces and gets the crowd going. A great addition to the band that's for sure.

I also agree with them getting a mic and being able to participate in the singing....rock on Kris!!!!

Plus - I enjoy bald heads so he gets a big thumbup from me!!!

Anyone know any other tidbits of info regarding Kris pre-GBS???

I don't know much pre-GBS Kris but I have to agree with you Kymbrr, I love his bald head. But contrary to what you said I usually don't, but it definatly works for him!

    Re: We Love Kris!

    Kymbrr,

I saw him in St. John's playing guitar and singing for Andrea Englund's band two years ago.

    and

And if you look real hard here - he's behind the drumkit for Kilt - that was 1999 I think. Well looking at the photo, I satnd corrected - 2000.

    and

And one time I went to see Tom Landa and the Paperboys, Kris was a member of the band but couldn't make it down that trip.

Everytime I see this thread title, it's like mini-boost to my self-esteem. Even though I know I'm not the Kris it's referring to. It makes me giggle.

    Re: We Love Kris!

I've decided that there should be many more posts on this thread than there are because Kris deserves much more attention than he's getting. I figured that I really had no place to talk, however, if I didn't post here myself, so here ya go.

Saw the show in Atlanta Monday night and it, of course, ROCKED! But one of the many highlights was watching Kris. As Euterpeskye pointed out, he's very into the music, but it doesn't end there...watching him and Murray was a hoot! he kept messing with the Mur-man, trying to tell Murray when it was his time to sing, straightening his pants by the belt loops (was still waiting for him to attempt to pants Murray) and just staring at him from the side while playing the accordion. It was so funny. He seems like he has a great time and a great sense of humor. There was a jazzy sort of backbeat on Run Runaway at the beginning that was kind of cool, too. Oh, and the bald head (though I dearly love the long hair) is kind of hot.

So, there are my two cents worth. Go Kris! Thank you for being part of GBS.

Seeing as I totally agree... I guess I need to post too.

    Kris is awesome.
He was hilarious at the Higher Ground show.
He pretended to whack Murray with a guitar a couple times. Petted Alan's hair for a bit. He even wandered around on stage tapping the other b'ys on the back of their knees while they were trying to sing. It was great.
My sister and I got to talk to him for a couple minutes after the show and he was super sweet.

Told me to check out the Paperboys seeing as I was from Vancouver. (Here's their website in case any of you want to check them out too...

    Re: We Love Kris!

I managed to talk to Kris last night just before I left the Center in the Square in Kitchener. It was pretty cold out, and he was just about to retreat to the bus, so it was a short conversation. I had said how this was the first time I'd been to a GBS concert and actally knew all the songs. He said that he didn't know all the songs, and that when he finally listened to French Perfume, he really liked one line. He started the line, but only got "He hit the rocks..." I quoted the rest of it, and he said it gave him the chills.

He kept poking Murray during one song last night, and Alan banged into his accordian with his guitar when he backed up without looking.

    Re: We Love Kris!

We have had the chance to talk to Kris several times now over the past few years...about music and kids/families (as it turns out, we have some parallels in the ages of our kids and my husband is also a drummer)...our first encounter was after Massey Hall in November 2004 when after chatting and taking pictures, he reached into his backpack and brought out a set of his favorite brand of drum sticks - unused - to give to my husband. (As you all know, Kris usually reserves his sticks for the younger audience members, so this was a total drummer to drummer moment). He remembered us at the next encounter over a year and a half later...goes to show he's actually paying attention when he talks to you. Very cool.

    Re: We Love Kris!

Being without a voice Sunday evening, I still got to hear Kris explain to Tony T exactly how the best cymbals are made - and I totally understood it, and it made sense. Tony, of course, was in drumgeek heaven. Can't beat it!
