Recipe Search - Old Betty Crocker Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe?

Back when I was a kid ( 1960's and '70's)my mom had an old Betty Crocker cookbook, with a brown cover that had some of the best cook recipes. Someday I hope to find an old copy of it at a garage sale or something...but for now I am searching high and low for the Peanut Butter Cookie recipe from that book. ( exact title was Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook, circa 1956)

Does anyone here have it, by chance?

This is from my Mother's Betty Crocker's Cookbook, which is from 1973.  I don't know if this would be the one you're looking for or not, but it's worth a shot!  I'm typing it as it appears in the book, but I have to admit the wording of the first bit in parentheses has me confused!

     Peanut Butter Cookies

1/2 cup shortening (half butter or margarine, softened)
    1/2 cup peanut butter
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
    1 egg
    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour*
    3/4 teaspoon soda
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon salt

Mix thoroughly shortening, peanut butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and egg.  Blend in flour, soda, baking powder and salt.  Cover and chill.

Heat oven to 375°.  Shape dough into 1-inch balls.  Place 3 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.  With fork dipped in flour, flatten in criscross pattern to 2 inches.  Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set but not hard.

    About 3 dozen cookies.

*If using self-rising flour, omit soda, baking powder and salt.

I just saw the link for the other recipe that had been offered to you, and it seems that the one I just found is the same. So I wasn't any help! Sorry! :)

What the part in the parenthesis means is that part of it needs to be half softened butter or margerine and half shortening like Crisco.

Isn't it funny how fork hashmarks is Universal Cooke Code for "peanut butter cookie?"

I always thought Kwanzaa would have gone over better if it had a signature sweet.  Peanut butter cookies would be perfect!  But I'd make peanut butter cowries, balls rolled in sesame seeds and dented down the middle with the back of a butter knife.
