I've had the chance to go through this book because we sell it here in the Downhome Shoppe.  It's alright but perhaps I'm a bit biased towards the "Dictionary of Newfoundland and Labrador" by Ron Young.  Not because I work for him and his son but because I like the fact that the information in the book has been submitted by readers of the Downhome magazine.  Right from the mouths of the native speakers, if you will.  Not so sure about how the information found in "Newfoundland Tongue" was collected, and we have none in stock at the moment for me to go and check.

It's Nellie Strowbridge's personal information.  She's probably ~ 50 & a good writer.  She's from Port de Grave & also married & lived Central/West Coast to a husband who came from a family of loggers - so she has old cures from Port de Grave, interesting turns of phrases,  etc.  She lived away from Nl for 10 yrs and says when she came back, she had an ear for all the Nl ways and sayings - souinds really interesting to me.  She's a nice writer.  BTW, Dictionary of NL with input from readers sounds great - thanks for telling me about the fact that it's compiled from readers - real cool.
