    Flynn Theatre - Burlington, VT

I hope everyone had a wonderful Great Big Sea Day!  I know I did.  I thought the show was spectacular.  Despite my concerns about the theatre seating, the place really rocked!  Awesome tunes and great performances made for an unforgettable evening.  Thank you!

    EDIT:

In case you're wondering what I'm talking about, this proclamation was issued:

Whereas, the city of Burlington has close ties to our friends and neighbors of the North; and

Whereas, Vermonters and Newfoundlanders are independent and self-reliant, having both been independent colonies or republics during their histories; and

Whereas, Great Big Sea serve as ambassadors of the culture of their home in Newfoundland, honoring their ties to tradition, history and the land and sea; and

Whereas, Burlington has a vibrant and diverse music scene, being the home among others of Phish, Big Joe Burrell, and the Vermont Mozart Festival; and

Whereas, Burlington has a great big Lake Champlain and that balanced against a Great Big Sea, making them feel at home; and

Whereas, Great Big Sea's energy and positive attitude inspires their fans to travel great distances and thereby discover great cities such as Burlington; and

Whereas, by appearing here today, Great Big Sea provides Burlington with a great big treat on Halloween.

Now, Therefore, I, Bob Kiss, Mayor of the City of Burlington, Vermont, do hereby proclaim October 31, 2008 as GREAT BIG SEA DAY in the city of Burlington, Vermont in a welcoming spirit of international recognition and acclaim.

My wife and I had a wonderful Great Big Sea Day too...  I also agree with your feelings on the show.  Great venue, great show, and very funny band banter in between the music....

For the Bobites out there (for which I am one), I do believe I witnessed some dancing out of him.  He didn't leave the ground, but there was body swaying, foot stomping, and head banging.... It was awesome!!!!

How do those other bands do it...? The bands that don't have Bob in them... They must suck...

There were actually quite a few people in costume - it was a great night all around!

I do have a setlist, which I will post later (need to get my butt in the shower for tonite's festivities) - but wanted to post that the solo spot last night had Alan's name on it.  He performed "Testify", which is a song that he wrote with Russell Crowe and is on Russell's "My Hand, My Heart" CD.  Holy CRAP it was AWESOME!

     More later...

That was mine and my mother's first GBS show, and wow was it amazing. It trumped all the other concerts I've ever been too, and I've been to some pretty good ones. My mother has fallen in love with this band, and wants to get tickets ASAP to the next closest show. Probably won't be for a while but, wow! Oct. 31st will forever be Great Big Sea Day to me. Wow!  What a great show.  GBS blew me away with their harmonies, musicianship and stage presence.  As the son of a Newfoundlander, and descendant of a long line of fisherman, GBS makes me unbelievably proud of my heritage and our musical tradition. Rock on boys...and come back soon.

I noticed that we were so distracted by Alan's solo performance of Testify and the GBS day proclamation that we forgot to mention that Gallow's Pole was the treat of the encores. Not that OBD and Walk on the Moon didn't sound fabulous, but we know that >grin<
