Baltimore, Rams Head Live! Oct 25, 2008 - FF Tour
We got in to town late thanks to rain that traveled with us all the way from WV. The last hour of the drive we saw 7-8 accidents, including a fellow who rolled his truck directly in front of us. We stopped to see if they were OK and called 911. But several other people had also stopped and it was overly crowded. Once we determined the people were ok and there was help on the way, we went on. We have a great suite a block off the harbor and only a couple blocks from the venue. By the time we got settled in and changed it was after 6 but we hadn't eaten yet. The rain had eased to a drizzle so we headed out for dinner and then on to the venue, one of several interesting places in the Power Plant Live! complex. The doors were already open and quite a few people had staked out their spots. We opted for a different perspective, and having won the tickets here in the trivia contest, shelled out the $10 a piece for the second balcony. Not at all crowded and we had rail space looking down on the lads from stage Bob. It made for interesting views! There was an opening band but it was not my kind of thing. Rather forgettable, in my opinion, and like countless other bar bands. Britt was super fast in getting the stage set up for the main show and the boys came out a couple minutes before 9:00 to Banks of Newfoundland. The setlist was an unusual one, in my opinion but all the more enjoyable to me for the rarity of some of the tunes. The Setlist Love Me Tonight Process Man Paddy Murphy ( I love the song, but am I the only one that gets irked by the constant changes in perspective, from first to third person and back again?) When I'm Up Here and Now Lukey England Charlie Horse Hard Case (a song about sweet temptation, as introduced by Sean) When I'm King General Taylor Scolding Wife Penelope End of the World Dream to Live Consequence Free Mari Mac (flaming hot!) Ordinary Day Encore 1 Walk on the Moon ("In Baltimore" improv) Old Black Rum Encore 2 John Barbor Good Girlz (as written on the set list) ETA: Rant and Roar There were a couple long banter sessions. In one Sean talked about going to the Aquarium today and how seeing all those fish swimming around made him hungry. During the improv "In Baltimore" song he kept singing about poison tree frogs and Alan decided that going to the Aquarium was a euphamism, singing that Sean is on acid. *snorks* Two other observations: One that Alan seemed to be opting for safer/easier notes on some songs. Considering how he has sounded for this tour, I can't help but wonder if he hasn't actually damaged his vocal chords. He sounded good, don't get me wrong! But it was different than I have ever heard him before. And the second is that Sean's voice is going the other direction. It's been a while since I've heard General Taylor and I have to say... it sounded fabulous! It's nice to hear some of those notes that had been lost working their way back, and much smoother as well. Yay for quitting smoking! Bob was dancy, Murray actually made his way over to stage Bob at one point, and it was lovely to see Kris singing more. All in all, a great night! I got some photos but don't know when I'll get them up. And as I said, they're from a strange perspective! I'll post when I do. Wish I could have found Nova or Robin4Song but we neglected to make arrangements to meet and I had no idea where they were!

Re: Baltimore, Rams Head Live! Oct 25, 2008 - FF Tour
My girlfriend and I had a great time at the show. When the guys performed Walk on the Moon their first encore, they dedicated it to "a happy couple out there." During the first verse, I figured out what they meant by that. Right behind where we were standing, a guy proposed to his girlfriend (she said yes). Then some complete strangers went and bought a round of beers for the happy couple. It was quite a touching moment. Although that was not the coolest moment of the evening for me. After the show, I bought a deck of GBS playing cards. Then we started walking towards the car and saw where the tour bus was parked. I begged my girlfriend to let me try to get some autographs. She agreed in exchange for me making her breakfast in bed this morning. We waited and waited, assuming the guys were backstage partying. We saw Bob and Murray briefly, but they went back inside before I could get to them. Then we saw Murray again as he got in the bus, and he was very nice when he signed one of my playing cards. We waited and waited some more and there was no sign of the rest of the band, even after the crew finished packing. By this time it was 12:15 and the show had ended at 10:45, and we were the only people hanging out by the bus. Finally, one of the tour guys asks me if I was waiting to get an autograph. I said yes. He said that all five guys were already on the bus and were in the process of going to bed. I really don't know how we missed them unless they bolted from the stage to the bus right after the show. I was crestfallen. But then the tour guy offered to take my playing cards on to the bus and get the signatures. I was delighted. After he returned with the four other signatures, I thanked him profusely. I would have loved the chance to chat with the rest of the guys, but that was an incredibly kind gesture that made me smile all the way home to D.C.

Nice shot Kestral ! My first time to Baltimore and I have to say it's a nice little seaport and Rams Head was a great venue. The B'ys were really on but the best part for me was watching Bob perform Good Girlz and playing the harp !! He looked like he was having a blast, and the song was really rockin' However, it seems, much to my chagrin, that the only ones who knew the words to the song were the over 35ers OUCH LOL ! Always great to see Flyrsgrl (who kept tabs on the Phillies game), Chiarascura, and Nova. See you girls on Thursday !

Great shot, Kestrel! We were on the floor a couple of people back in front of Sean. That was so cool when Sean jumped up in front of Kris like a rock God. We could not see that perspective from the floor so your photo is awesome. You must have been just above us in the balcony. At one point we felt drops coming from what we thought was a leaking ceiling, and then I tasted one of the drops and realized it was beer. We were being christened from above. LOL! The show was awesome and Bob's "Good Girls Don't" was a treat. My 18-year old couldn't believe that Bob sang "that song." I guess she would expect it from Sean or Alan, but not Bob. HA! I too wish we had met; we definitely will aboard the Jewel in February. I saw no one I knew last night. We didn't hang around after the show; I had to get up early this a.m. and we didn't get home until 12:30 as it was. Glad you all made it okay in that rain. We only had a 60-mile drive and it was a bit nerve wracking on the Beltway and then 95. Recuitingsargeant - awesome story about the cards. I'm sorry you didn't get to meet all the bys but glad you got the autographs. I looked at the merchandise window from afar; wish I would have known there were playing cards in there. Next time I'll look closer. Robin

I must say "Good Girls" was my highlight too. Left the hubby home to hang with the girls last night, but he's a big Bob fan and was quite disappointed to have missed it. Look forward to seeing some of you guys on Thurs. Go Phils!

Re: Baltimore, Rams Head Live! Oct 25, 2008 - FF Tour
I had a great time. I took my friend's 10 year old, who has loved them since he was 2. It was his second show, the first being the one at Wolf Trap this summer. We must have been just underneath you, on the 2nd balcony. We bolted for the bus as soon as we could, and saw Chris headed back into the theater to take a shower. I asked if anyone would be out for autographs, and he said he didn't know, but if they did it would probably be much later. "How long you got?" Since I did have to get the 10 year old home at a reasonable hour, probably not long. I did ask for his autograph, but neither of us managed to have a pen! Doh! so we waited.....and gave up around 11:15, maybe? We started up the steps to the parking garage, and ended up walking with Murray, who was escorting a friend to her car. I felt terrible, but I asked if the kid could get a quick picture, and he couldn't have been nicer about it. So, he has a picture of himself with Murray, in the stairwell of a parking garage! Great show. It is a little disconcerting to have a 10 year old singing, "I swear to God I'll hang myself if I get married again!" but hey, he had fun! Oh, and MY favorite banter was Sean talking about how "good. And fine." he was feeling, and saying they should sing a lot of songs, and throwing the set list away. I noticed it was back a couple songs later, but it was cute!

Anne, She says Hi back and wishes it hasn't been so long since she's (we've) seen you! recruitingsargent... wow... we missed that entirely! Some of the banter was fuzzy where we were anyway but what a moment to miss! Squeezy... I tried to capture it but the audio on my camera didn't work. I have video of the whole song if you want to see, though. *LOL* Michelle... I like to switch it up but I was getting digruntled looks from WVMis when I suggested it. She lamented that it's the first time she wasn't in front of the stage! But it was an interesting view. :o) seaworthy... very interesting venue... and how did I miss the harp?!? Robin... you TASTED the droplets? O_o Glad it was just BEER! *LOL* whenimip... I saw you! You were right under us! I remember because of seeing the 10 yr old! I, on the other hand, did a bad thing and saw my nephew's favorite band without him... ON his 11th birthday. But the travel just wasn't practical for him. Glad you got to meet Murray. :o) BTW... new item available at the swag booth on tour: Sean McCannippers with stamped signatures. $10. *LOL*

The McCannipper (as I call it, anyway *LOL*):

I think that takes me to 28 tippers... or maybe 29... O_O Okay... I admit it! I have a tipper problem! But there are worse vices out there. ;o)

Kes! I don't know where I've been, but I totally missed that you won the trivia contest. How cool is that?! Congratulations! I'm not surprised, though, considering your great memory. Sounds like it was an awesome show. Shoot me an e-mail, if you would, and tell me what's going on with your move, etc. I feel like the whole month of October has really gotten away from me. Kathy

Re: Baltimore, Rams Head Live! Oct 25, 2008 - FF Tour
What a story, recrutingsargeant! I was there with my daughter, we were right in front, about a foot or two to Bob's left. GREAT view. This was the best show I've seen (I haven't seen that many at all) since Northampton MA. Not coincidentally, the OTHER show where I was that close to the stage. Sorry I didn't get to meet up with other OKP'ers. I did try to chat up the people who were standing around us--we arrived at about 5:15 and basically stood/sat around for HOURS--but nobody seemed to want to talk to anyone but their own friends... which is normal for a lot of concerts but, in my experience, not normal for GBS crowds! But I got some good quality time in with my kid, I can't complain! My eyes bugged out when we walked out the door and saw that gigantic mural of Newfoundland/Labrador on the side of that gorgeous bus. We didn't stay around and wait because I feel really weird and bad doing that. (Maybe someday I'll grow a pair.) The clincher was that neither of us remembered to bring a pen or Sharpie, which is a first. But I had a deck of Fortune's Favor cards on me, and I'm sorry I didn't hang out with R.S. after all. Delightful show... Lovely venue... I'd go there again anytime. I think the boys liked it too--they sounded like it and at one point had a bit of chat about how they felt like they were playing in the Colosseum. :) p.s. I overheard the ticket-booth guy telling another concertgoer before the show that they had about 1,000 tickets left. When he asked what the capacity of the club was, the guy said 1,800. Nice gig, and we all had plenty of space to dance, but I wish for GBS's sake they'd've sold more tickets!
