I have been following the exploits of Flocke, the baby polar bear at the Nurnberg Zoo who was rejected by her mother. The zoo almost decided to let nature take her course (and let her momma kill her) but the public outcry was so huge that they rescued her and are raising her by hand. I have VERY mixed feelings about the whole idea of zoos, but you HAVE to see this little critter. She is the funniest little baby you will see today. Yep, the only difference is I don't think they threatened to let Knut die. (or did they, and I'm having a "menopausal moment"?)

Either way, they are DARN cute, and very beautiful.  What amazing animals.  I just love how powerful and streamlined they are.  I'm working on a small series of polar bear sculptures in the studio, trying to learn construction techniques for making a much larger one.  I love having all these images to study from!

not going to lie, when i saw the title of this thread i thought "oh no... someone has had a "Lost" moment in their backyard"

they both are adorable!!! it's funny to think that the HUGE, IMPRESSIVE, DANGERGOUS animals that are adult polar bears are these cute little guys when they are young! you see the trainer playing with him now.. but i heard that Knut is going through 'withdrawl' now because he is too big to "play" with the trainers now, and misses the contact. however, they are trying to get him a girlfriend, and that will hopefully cheer him up!

Just got announced that polar bears will be listed as threatened under the US Endangered Species Act due to decline in Arctic sea ice from global warming
