With a new album coming out, it's time to start the 'personal interpretaion' of songs again! (Which the by's say is the only way you'll get song books, so it's up to us).  I had a lot of fun helping with The Hard and The Easy, and hope the new one will be just as fun.

 Does anyone have anything for Walk On the Moon yet??

So far, I think an accustic version can be done with capo 2, around C, F, G chords in various progressions.  It really changes up throughout, and there's probably some other/alternate chords can that can be thrown in.

So, I offer up the challenge to all amature guitarists to come up with something playable in an accustic set up for this song.

OK guys, you've got me confused. What the heck does a G/B look like? The bit about the root and bass note means nothing to me. Can you paint a picture? I can play guitar but I know nothing beyond regular chords. I know no guitar theory.

Young - I'll accept that, as I can only listen to the studio version, not having a live version to follow along with!

 

Anne - play a regular G chord (with open D G and B strings) and then muffle (or take your finger off) the bottom G note (Fat E string, third fret).

he plays the g/b c d live as well, thats how i learned it in the first place. i made it a point to study it when i saw it live for a second and third time, in the pre chorus he uses a d7 instead of the dmaj for "dreams that never come", but i honestly like the d maj better, it just sounds nicer to me

Thanks Johnny.  I watched your YouTube vid of this soung and think it's great.  Can you give a little clue as to the strum pattern?  Looks almost like a hammer on and/or a pulloff or two rather than a straight full chord strum.

Thought for sure he played Em in the first version I learned off of him. I like the tone Em gives off better, anyways... been playing it that way for over a year.

Steph, I like your version a lot. For me it worked out fine with the first try. I played it along with the live version recorded on the Ships 'n' Dips (before the single was released)

After playing it a couple of times I added a G on "you" and "moon", a Dsus4 on "soon" and a Cadd9 on "step" in the chorus. Does this make sense?

Yes, to the Dsus and C9, the G on you and moon are just the lead in to the next line, not extra chords.

Also noted that Am is sometimes Am7 to keep the high G accent note going through the pattern.

Cool Mike ... makes me kinda proud that you like my little additions here (and of course I agree on what you wrote for the G - it's just that I need to write that down for myself :-) ... since I only play for a bit longer than a year, I never tried to tab anything myself. I would probably suck completely ...

I'll try the Am7! 

I actually simply strumm this song - in a rythm that I think fits quite ok. You probably play it with a more sophisticated pattern ... do you have any recommendations that are not too hard to learn?
