The Daffodil Place Campaign is working to raise $7 million for a 24-suite facility to house cancer patients staying in St. John’s while they receive treatment.  “Corporate leadership being exhibited here today is what will help us achieve our goal,” says John Steele, chairman of the Capital Campaign Cabinet Committee for the Cancer Society.  “The Daffodil Place Campaign has been very pleased to receive the support from such an esteemed company and family.”  Allan Doyle of Great Big Sea was also at the event, helping to fundraise for the Cancer Society. 09/04/08

Great publicity, but I wish they'd learn how to spell Alan's name. There was also a little photo and blurb in the latest Downhome magazine.

I feel the same way Anne. I've seen it spelled Allen, Allan...geez, you think they'd know how to spell it by now.

I have that blurb from the Downhome magazine. Nan let me cut it out..LOL...I needed to have it!

I don't have to cut it out...I have an issue at home, but that is one of the perks to working for the Downhome Shoppe - I get a free issue every month.  If you're interested, the little blurb is found on the top of page 22 of the April 2008 issue.

I don't have access to a scanner but here's the text of the blurb:

"Corby Distilleries Ltd. recently donated $30,000 to Daffodil Place, a facility that will improve access to care and accommodations for Newfoundland and Labrador cancer patients who must travel to St. John's for treatment.  Great Big Sea's Alan Doyle (centre), a member of the Daffodil Place Campaign Cabinet, was on hand to receive the cheque.  Construction of Daffodil Place is set to begin this spring and its doors should be open by early 2009.  For more information about the campaign, and to find out how you can donate, visit www.daffodilplace.ca."

Re: Another Big Donation for Daffidil Place

I was reading the Packet today and came across another article about the Hickman donation. And at the end of the article there was a quote from Alan with the same picture from the Telegram article.

"Since I became involved in the Daffodil Place Campaign I have seen an incredible amount of giving from the corporate community, government and individuals. The contribution from Hickman's today is another reminder of the goodwill which exists in those of us who call Newfoundland and Labrador our home. On behalf of patients and their families, I thank you for helping us make Daffodil Place a reality."

According to John Steele, the campaign chair, they are nearing 4 million in donations as of right now.
