Alan in Disguise? or Johnny Fray?

Randomly came across this guy on youtube and he is amazing! He has been called Alan in disguise because his voice is very similar to Alan's. A gbs fan, he has done songs like Walk on the moon(Fortune's Favour), The ladder(unreleased), (I love this one--->)The way that you wanted me(unreleased), and here is clearest indication (SeaofNoCares)

Re: Alan in Disguise? or Johnny Fray?

Someone sent me a link to "The Ladder" yesterday to check him out. I heard the song live when Alan sang it for Bruce Guthro's songwriter's circle on CBC several years ago.

Johnny Fray does a pretty astounding vocal impression...unless he just naturally sounds exactly like Alan. Anything's possible.

    I'm still shaking my head.

I dont know. I guess I dont hear it. I can catch it once in a while but he is higher than Alan in a lot of places.

he is still good, dont get me wrong, but I wouldnt say he nailed it.

those are some of my favourite songs BTW, so I listen to them on my Ipod a lot.

haha ya know honestly, this is why i love great big sea and great big sea fans so much. because they appreciate anything to do with the band itself. its funny that anyone would percieve my music and/or voice to even be decent let alone good. and for the record im not trying to sound like alan, i think its just that i listen to gbs so much and the music they play just happens to fall into my vocal range in a way that i can just belt it without thinking about it. if you guys really approve of my music and you think i do gbs justice at all ill start taking requests. again i cant begin to thank you enough for the support. let me know if theres anything you want me to try on for size!!Smile

Do you mean just GBS songs or can we nominate trad tunes that GBS hasn't done yet? :)

Re: Alan in Disguise? or Johnny Fray?

jenny, i can give it a try, i know that the tuning he uses isn't standard E tuning EADGBE  but its D tuning, DADGAD (same one he uses for boston and st. john's) now that i know how to play in D tuning, ill play around with it...the song is SOOO  GOOD i can't wait for this new album to come out, june can't come soon enough. i know the lyrics for tonight, i just need to figure out the progression and i'll be golden. that song is definitely gonna be up on my youtube page soon.

hey everybody that likes my stuff should subscribe to my vids. me and my buddy tofee35 are thinking about cutting an album with our friend anthony, and maybe getting a few other people in on it to get it as
GBS as possible, like keyboards to mimic flute and fiddle and squeezebox and stuff. you guys have any thoughts on that? give us some feedback if you would be so kind, tty everyone soon!
