    Avatar wierdness.

I have uploaded a new avatar, a new and improved Sharnesimpson, and for some reason, the background is black. The background of the original image is not black, it's white. I don't get it. (the old and not so great Sharnesimpson also had an inexplicable black background) Any suggestions? Explainations? Comments?

I have no insight as to your problem, just curious as to where would one find a Simpson-esque icon?

www.simpsonizeme.com It's a promo website for the new movie in conjunction with Burger King. I've done my whole family, it's on my facebook profile. My husbands simpson is eerily accurate!

    Sharn,

I wonder if the background on the Simpsons site was clear and their default is white. But the GBS background default is black? I dunno, just thinking.

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

I had that problem with a GIF that was supposed to have a transparent background (to blend in with any board).  This board doesn't like images with transparency used as avatars.

Open your saved image in any image editing program, and save it as a JPG file instead of a GIF or PNG (whichever it is now).  JPG files don't support transparency!  You may need to flood-fill your background with white if it turns another colour!

Then re-upload your avatar and all should be OK.

Columbine guest stars on The SimpsonsAnd then you can change the color of your clothes too!  And cut out some of the extra blank space.

Lol! My clothes are that colour on purpose! I wore a top very like that one to the Stratford show last year. When I'm not coming of a brutal 9.5 hour shift having had only about 4 hours sleep, thanks to a spouse who gropes in his sleep (grrrrr) (I'm sure if I snap one day and put a pillow over his face, no jury of my peers would convict me) I'll give reformatting the file a shot. Thanks all! (diggin' Columbine Simpson, BTW)

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

That Simpson site is way too fun!  The only problem is that when I try to download the image I create to my computer, the named file shows up in my photos, but I can't open it (there's also no thumbnail showing).  What's going?  It's like my computer doesn't know what program created it, so it can't find it.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

Believe it or not I just logged in and created the Springfield Me so's I could work this out!

They download in PNG file format, which most image editors recognize.  So if you have something like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop you'll be OK.

What you want to do is hold your Shift key down, while right-clicking on your saved file.  Then choose "Open With" from the menu that comes up. You'll get a list of programs.  Choose your image editor from the list, tick the box which says "always open this type of file with this program" and click OK.

It also explains the pic importing here with a black background - PNGs also support transparency, and the background must be transparent as default.

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

Hmmm...ok.  I had tried opening it in Photoshop and it said it couldn't find it or that it wasn't the correct program or something like that.  I'll have to try it again tomorrow.

Maybe, does it make a difference if you're registered at the Simpsons site or not?  I was creating one without registering and it still gave you the option to download the image to your computer.

Thanks for the instructions, I'll see what I can figure out with them tomorrow.Smile

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

Thanks for the directions, Teddy.  I completely understand them, my computer just doesn't seem to want to follow them, lol.  But, playing around I did find a way to change the file format.  Yay!  So here's me

Hmmmm...I wonder how the b'ys would look Simpsonized?Cool

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

I've done Alan, was just debating posting it here, thinking it was a little wierd to be doing that to someone I don't really know. But then a) everyone here already knows I'm weird, and b) with the things some people have done to these poor lads and their images, maybe a simpson Alan isn't so wierd? I dunno. I'll try it and see what happens.

    Re: Avatar wierdness.

Oh, he's so cute!  I tried too, but my picture was too small.  Note to self: must stand closer to Alan next time there is an opportunity to photograph him!  Admit it, you love the soul patch!

We have had more fun with this silly Simpsonizing thing, btw.  Thanks so much.  My Simpon girls look so much like my real girls.  They were even able to add missing teeth, braces and glasses!  So cool.

Good work making your avatar background white.  I'm just going back to my old avatar, it's easier than figuring out how to fix it!
