One of the things I love about where I live is the
convenient location to almost everything.
On a hot summer Saturday, I can be at the ocean in 30 minutes. Except for morning rush hours, I can be in
downtown Boston in 30 minutes for
everything a big city has to offer, or go the other way and in 5 minutes be
driving amongst farms and fields.

In the fall, we like to take daytrips whenever the weather
cooperates.

We went to Castle in the Clouds a couple of weeks ago and
saw the waterfalls and mansion just north of Lake
Winnepausaukee.

Last Sunday we took a short drive west along winding roads
where I snapped this picture of a 250 year old building in Townshend where they
once made barrels (and is now a historical society-sponsored gift shop).

Today, hoping the threatening clouds would clear away ( they
did, a little), we drove north, hoping to see the Polar
Caves (but they close early in
October), so took a scenic drive around the area.

Calm rivers and bright leaves are the norm.

This is “New Hampshire
covered bridge #44”, rebuilt in 2003 after the older one was arsoned.

Nearby Plymouth,
home of Plymouth State College was a nice place for a lunch stop (and watching
the passing “scenery” – god I feel old sometimes!)

Out of Plymouth,
back into farm country.

Newfound Lake
is a peaceful 7-mile long lake that has not seen the commercial development of Lake
Winnepausaukee (yet). This little “house” sits on an island and is
a boating rest stop.

Didn’t expect to see a roaring almost-overflowing stream
which turned into a river – think it might have been a controlled release from New
Found Lake. Quite spectacular to see spring-like flow at
this time of year!

And there’s still lots of foliage time left here!

When in Bloomington, IL

<creator>LoveTheBoys</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

Hi Boys,

We can hardly wait for ya here! You will be right near this place when you play: Lucca Grill. Great place for pizza and a brew. Been around forever. If you're looking for something a tiny bit more formal, check out either Rosie's or Lancaster's. And for a massage before the show, go for Fox-N-Hounds! They are known for helping show folks prep for Collisium gigs.

Have fun in our little town!

Olympia...It's The Water

<creator>Loulabelle</creator><commentcount>2</commentcount>

Really. Once upon a time Olympia beer was brewed with water from the amazing artiesan well we have under our lovely city; but now its brewed in Texas and not worth the effort of opening the can.

There is however an awesome little brewery called Fish Brewing Co. and its adjacent Fish Tale Brew Pub. Fish Tale is known around town for it's organic ales. They also have well priced kegs for parties (get one backstage boys, you'll thank me! ) I recommend the Trout Stout! The place is a country bar called 'Handlebar J's." You can probably google it and get some history about the place - it was inducted into the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame a year or two ago and it has a lot of musical history associated with it.

Better still a lot of top music names drop by after or around their normal performances either to hang out and listen or jam with the house band, The Herndon Brothers. Ray, one of said Herndon's whose mother owns the joint, has had his own solo career in Nashville and played for Orbison and a variety of others in their bands at various times. He still comes back home and sings with his brother Ron and their three long-time bandmates in his mom's bar/steakhouse for weeks at a time. Jesse Coulter often shows up and jams with them, and she and her late husband Waylon Jennings were regular patrons there, and I guess she is still. I don't know that their food is necessarily edible (hit and miss) but the music scene there is really something else.

Even if you don't get to visit HBJ's, I'd still love to see you visit Phoenix, and preferrably when it's not 1 billion degrees outside (Or 60+ degrees Celsius in Canadian degrees. Was I supposed to carry the 1? Oh well...)

If you need a tour guide while in the area I know I and my family would be thrilled to give you a wholesome maritime welcome (Mom's from NS.)

Cheers,

GBG

coming back up north

<creator>bikerboy123</creator><commentcount>1</commentcount>

hey all just wanted to say that when gbs was up in the yukon itwas a blas! yeah so what if the bars aren't the best but here there is plenty of other things to do as well
. lik going fishing or coampingh or somthing else like mountain biking! that is always fun up here in the yk. but rthat was 2 yrs ago but if the boys wanna come back up here and enjoy the nature well then let them haev at it. Well, I'm going to start by mentionning a few good violin (fiddling) places to go for supplies or your own personal entertainment.

I aquired my own violin at Davis&Wilder, a strings instrument shop in which you can watch luthiers actually making double basses, violins, cellos, or violas, depending on the day you go there. The service is friendly and the selection is nice, even if you want to get a good instrument without paying a fortune.

THere is lso a place called Jules St-Michel, which is a violin shop, a violin repair place, and also a violin museum. You can go there if you have a little free time and you want to check out the history of the violin, or you can also go to buy some top-notch instruments.

If you have kids, the Science center in the Old Port can also be interesting.

Please add on any attraction that you can think of in Montreal.

Grand Bend Ontario

<creator>Shelladee</creator><commentcount>0</commentcount>

We saw you a few years back at the Motorplex, so I'm thinking you must have seen the beach and strip while you were in the area. It would be so much fun if you could do a Beach Party there!

New Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia

<creator>senrab</creator><commentcount>8</commentcount>

So my mother and I are leaving from Buffalo this Saturday on a 2 week trip to the provinces in my title. Nevermind downtown - visit the Wild Bird Sanctuary, walk near the river to catch the eagles, drive out to Lucky Peak, take a Bogus Creek outfitters wagon tour or just knock around town in a rental. There's lots of cool hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shops and the Record Exchange has some really REALLY good old stuff too.

And if you're just wanting to rest, take an hour and go for a crystal healing / chakra balancing treatment and/or a psychic reading/channeling session from those Waxing Moon folks near State Street (they operate out of their house till their store is built and don't advertise - word of mouth keeps them busy enough!).

Merritts for breakfast scones; Guido's strombolis for lunch and for dinner - the Dutch Goose for the best prime rib in town, great beer on tap and fresh hot chips.
