    Re: NEW ALBUM

Since I am relatively new to the OKP I have just recently started listening to the Podcasts, and have totally fell in love with Say You Will by Sean.  I am really hoping that since Alan, Bob and Sean really seem to like it and they put it on the podcast, maybe they will add this one to the new album

"In the discussion posted in MEDIA, there sounds like a possibility of getting Downtown Girl too"

They already sing Downtown Girl on the Irish Descendants new CD Southern Shore...

If there's a new GBS album in the works, well, then...

    Bounce

Now that we've got that out of the way, I *wish* I could have heard some of the stuff that might be new.  However, I fully second (or third) the motion for Sean's rendition of "Danny Boy" - it's amazing! Did I or did I not also hear/see Alan musing about the guys doing "Molly Malone" at some point?

Aw, heck, bring it on, whatever they do! Yes

Hey Chocolady!  You are in luck!  Over in the Picture thread, there are a few postings of some video clips taken of the new songs.  Hopefully the links haven't expired, but here is one link to a string for "Chicago Videos" that includes quite a few...

I am curious what insight the July and August shows will bring....?

I can't wait to hear what other new songs they might throw at us!

They should so do Barret's Privateers or something like that.

LOL!I think in an interview years ago they said they'd ask someone to shoot them before they sang Barrett's Privateers again. Maybe they sang it too much during their teething days in Halifax.

They sang Barrett's Privateers at their last Halifax show, I didn't know the song, but the rest of the audience sure did.  I felt kind of silly not being able to sing along, it was like a Halifax secret that I did not know! LOL

Considering that I only heard Barrett's Privateers for the first time about a month ago, and totally fell in love with it...Ooh, I'l love to hear the b'ys singing it.  But who would lead?  Alan or Sean?  They'd both be so perfect for it!

"Molly Malone"...hm...would they do the funny version?

     Mmmm...new CD goodness...

    Re: NEW ALBUM

Alan did Molly Malone with The Ordinary Fear of God at their Melbourne show in 2005. It was the highlight, for me at least. I have it on video as do others here on the board, I'm not sure who has it and who doesn't now.

Form the Podcasts, I'd kill for Say you Will and Hold me Steady Freddy.

I think Freddy would be a fun song for concerts.

I imagine Bob singing it.  I've also heard (can't remember where) that he does an awesome "Recruiting Sergeant."

Oh, Bob does a great job with Recruiting Sergeant! I could not believe my good fortune when he came out for a solo in NYC that night. * sigh* I was told later that I fairly loated to the front. I don't remember moving at all and I can't believe people let me up front for it. LOL! I must've looked possessed.

    Re: NEW ALBUM

Theres a bi-law on the books in Halifax Regional Municipality that pub bands must sing Barretts Privateers or face severe fines and be blacklisted.  Well, ok, not REALLY but it sure seems that way.  It's kinda like bar bands in Ontario with Brown Eyed Girl.  It's not a question of IF the band will play it, but WHEN.  Barretts Privateers is fun cause you get to swear really loud, and yer granmudder wouldn't even blink, cause she'd be singin' along!

If they were to choose from the Stan Rogers canon, I'd sure love to hear Alan sing The Mary Ellen Carter. oh, I just had a little anticipatory full body shudder, just imagining it.  Maybe they better not, or I might channel Meg Ryan in the restaurant scene from When Harry Met Sally. That would be embarrasing at a concert.

    God damn them all!

I think The Mary Ellen Carter would be an ideal Alan song.  I think Alan was The Mary Ellen Carter in a previous hull.

How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now...

(For those of you who don't know, I'm moving to Sherbrooke Quebec in the fall, and I've been wanting to do so for a long while.  This line from Barrett's Privateers has been my MSN message often in the last year.  I actually contemplated adding it to my signature here in the Kitchen, but decided against it.)
