Thanks, Ann - I don't know if anyone but "us" has seen it. Maybe I should send it on. OK - new material from the new Studio Video! and...OH MY BOB!!!! This new song is lovely! "Far From the Shores of England" (don't know if that is the title) is so beautiful! Alan's guitar in it is breathtaking and Sean singing about something that really speaks to me (having left England 40 years ago and now live 5,000 miles from "the shores of England") This song already has a special place in my heart And this on an album that already has such lovliness in Walk on the Moon.....mmm mmmmm mmmmmmm WOW! And I read that there will be more vids from the studio coming over the next few months...more sneak peeks into the new album....yay! So can we count on these as "knowns"? : Walk on the Moon Straight to Hell Hold on for Your life Say You Will The Shores of England What an album this is shaping up to be!

alan-rocks: WORKMAN DONS PRODUCER'S HAT- from the Newfoundland Herald (Oct 14-20) "He's rocked George Street and the Delta Ballroom, but alternative rocker HAWKSLEY WORKMAN is in Newfoundland these days with his producer's hat on. Spotted last weekend at St. John's Airport with Séan McCann of GREAT BIG SEA, Workman, known for such albums as Lover/Fighter and Treeful of Starling,is in town to help produce albums from both that band and HEY ROSETTA!, a representative from Sonic Records has confirmed. It's expected Great Big Sea, one of this province's most successful bands ever, will go back to a more rocking sound on their upcoming album, the followup to the tradition album, The Hard and The Easy. Their last rock record, Something Beautiful*, was released in 2004." -Kevin Kelly There's a little more to the article, but the rest of it talks about Hawksley Workman and Hey Rosetta!. Great news on the new album!
I'm a HUGE fan of Hawksley Workman and Hey Rosetta---and SO happy to hear about these collaborations. Just wondering if you have the rest of the article? I'd like to know more about Hawksley working with HR! Thanks!!!!!!

Breaking News: At the show on Saturday night in Richmond, Alan told us that the new album will be release RIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS!!!!!
I've always heard Walk on the Moon with Bob taking a fiddle solo. The two times this weekend that they played it, he did a flute solo instead. I think I prefer fiddle. I wonder which way it was recorded...or did they lay down two Bob solo tracks? Fiddle and flute? I am curious to hear the studio version now.

Funny you should say that. I thought the fiddle sounded namby pamby for it. I was wondering if he was going to continue with it or not. If I remember correctly it was a little different each time I heard it, like he was still trying to decide what to play. You know Bob, Helen! He'll probably play every instrument under the sun for the album version. I'd like to hear the flute. Anne

And now we can only hope "Right after Christmas" means by Jan 2nd and not sometime in February. Sooner it's out, the sooner they can go Straight to Halifax to see Sharn followed by the rest of us! (Who would have thunk that that saying could have positive connotations?)

I get a newsletter from Rounder Records...they had a tab in the December news called "Upcoming New Releases" and I looked, hoping to see news of OUR new album.... I looked in pre-oders....I went to Sonic Entertainment's site..... Sadly there was nothing new listed for Great Big Sea. I keep hoping one day there will be some news!

Alan talks more about the new CD in the latest FTR: "We all straggled back to the hotel and listened to some rough mixes of the new GBS CD. The lads seemed to genuinely like the tunes, which is always encouraging. There are a few numbers on this recording that are unlike anything we've ever done. I was very curious to see how they would react. I wonder do our friends and family know that we use them as test groups?"
Wouldn't you just love to be in a "test group" ?

Quoting Bonnie's post in another thread about the Christmas show....2 more songs to add to the list! 'Tonight' is another new song that we were treated to I'm at work at the moment but at home I've got some pics and video that I got from Krista last night. I'll see if any of the videos managed to get either new song and see if I can get some of the lyrics. Or at least a gist of the lyrics...I don't want the b'ys to get angry at me. 'Oh Yeah' has a harder edge to it than anything I've ever heard them perform before. I'm not too sure how to describe it really other than to say that it had a hard rock touch to it, and that I could see it killing Alan's throat if he sang like that all the time! Pass the honey to soothe the sore vocal cords, man! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Unlike anything we've ever done before" said Alan in his las FTR - sounds like maybe this is the song he was referring to? This is shaping up to be a sweet track list so far.... Straight to Hell Walk on the Moon Hold on For our Life Say You Will? Shores of England? "Tonight" "Oh Yeah" hmmm....what other surprises are there?
