    New Photo and update;

    Hi Everyone,
I've been resting all week, but today I was awake for awhile and smiling. Yesterday I wasn't really feeling myself, but I feel better today. They actually had to go up a little on my ventilator settings...I think because I still am very puffy. All that extra fluid makes it a little tougher to breathe so I just need a little more support.
Well, I hope you all enjoy the weekend, think of me when you're bbqing or at the beach... I will be thinking of all of you.
    Love,
    Liam

And when the winds of change begin to blow,
I'll whisper, "You're my lighthouse" in case you didn't know.

    Re: Prayers for Liam

My first full time position as a Respiratory Therapist many moons ago was in a neonatal intensive care unit...unless the picture itself is the variant, Liam looks bigger and like his skin coloring has improved.  He looks stronger.  It's not unusual to have to go up on the vent settings a bit when there seems to be no obvious reason for it...I think that with these little guys, growth takes up so much energy sometimes they just don't have enough left for breathing too.

He looks great.  Sounds as though he's doing well.  Prayers still coming.

    Hot off the presses!

    May 28, 2007 at 01:59 PM EDT

    Hi Everyone
Happy Memorial Day! I woke up early this morning and saw my Daddy in my room! What a nice treat...I had heard him a few times this weekend but couldn't see him(talked to me on the phone). He says I look great! We had a great time...he was telling me all about the shore, and I listened and smiled.
Well, while all of you are enjoying bbq, I am enjoying milk. The doctors and nurses said I toleraterd the milk well, so they are increasing the feeds to 1 cc/hour. I've been uncomfortable since they introduced it, but it's good to know everything works!
The doctor (neonatologist) told Mommy and Daddy that they are going to try to get me back on the standard ventilator some time this week. I've been getting very annoyed with this oscillator, I've been crying a lot. The nurses said this is a good thing though, because I am aware of my surroundings.
My swelling has gone down...I've been losing water weight, so I'm looking more like myself! I'm able to move around a lot more...and I also like to suck on my fingers.
So, I know you all told me to relax, but I've been making good progress! Thank you for your love and prayers!
    Much love,
    Liam

    Update! And a photo

    May 29, 2007 at 11:36 PM EDT

    Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to update you on my day...it was pretty exciting!
First, Mommy and Daddy brought in something fun for me to look at while I'm lying here in bed...it's called the Ocean Wonders Aquarium. It has fish and bubbles and lights and plays music! It's about time they brought something in for me!!
They increased my feeds AGAIN~I went from 1 cc/hr to 2 cc/hr! They also weaned my ventilator settings a little bit more.
The eye doctor came by to check on me this afternoon, because some preemies can have a serious disorder (ROP) which can lead to visual impairment...anyway, he said my eyes looked good as far as he could tell, and that he'd be back to check on me in a couple of months.
The most exciting thing happened tonight. We've been praying to Saint Gianna Beretta Molla since before I was even born, and we continue to pray to her everyday. Well, Servants of the Society of St Gianna came to my room tonight and brought with them a relic, St Gianna’s glove. They placed the glove on my head, and placed their hands on it (and Mommy’s and Daddy’s hands too)…they said a prayer, and felt the warmth of the glove. They told Mommy and Daddy that the warmth is a sign of healing!
Thank you for all the prayers…we believe in their power.
    Much love,
    Liam

    Hi Everyone,
I had a busy day today! There were lots of positive changes: I am now up to 4 cc/hr of milk, they weaned my vent settings, they weaned my morphine infusion, they stopped my antibiotic because they think I'm at the point where I don't need it. I've also been peeing a lot, and I got a blood transfusion. And my puffiness is mostly gone!
Lots of small changes in the right direction, which is just what we could hope and pray for!
Thank you for your continued prayers...we need them just as much now as ever.
    Much love,
    Liam

    Re: Prayers for Liam

I haven't been able to get on the site in a couple of days, so I've been praying and wondering about little Liam and finally called Nova  to see if the site was down or if it was my computer - deleting the cookies did the trick, thanks!!  So this is the first thread I visited when I got in, and what wonderful news awaited me!!

Prayers of thanksgiving for these positive steps, but also continuing prayers for Liam's healing, his family's well-being, and guidance for his care-givers...

The latest news from CHildren's Hospital:

    June 04, 2007 at 10:44 PM EDT

    Hi Everyone,
It was an exciting day! The doctors and nurses felt I was tolerating the weans on the oscillator, so they decided to switch me back to the conventional ventilator. The nurse took 2 blood gases (remember:checks to see how my lungs are functioning) after the switch and they both came back within my normal range, the 2nd was better than the 1st.
Guess what???? Mommy and Daddy both held me!!! It was wonderful! It took me a few seconds to get adjusted, but then I fell right asleep...it was so nice and cozy in their arms. I cried a little when they put me back in bed...but they were both right there holding my hands til I fell asleep.
So, it's bedtime, just wanted to share the news of my day...remember, BABY STEPS...good things come to those who wait :)
Thank you for your prayers...we pray for all of you too.
    Much Love,
    Liam

I am so happy for Kate and Brian, to have had the chance to finally hold their beautiful little boy.  It sounds like he is doing so well.  Never underestimate the power of prayer.

Thanks so much for the update, Anne.
