Here's the latest: Good Morning Everyone, I was moving a lot yesterday and last night, which is good because it moves the fluid around and allows me to pee it out! But, it also caused my belly to bleed all over the gauze that covers the omphalocele. This kept Mommy and Daddy up all night, a little worried, as you can imagine. The nurses gave me another transfusion of red blood cells and plasma (which helps with clotting). It turns out, Mommy and Daddy were worrying for nothing. Dr Flake stopped in to see me this morning and said, "He's doing great!" Dr Flake said that a little bleeding is to be expected, but as long as it stopped (it seems to have) and there wasn't a lot of it (there wasn't), then everything is fine. Dr Flake plans on taking me to surgery tomorrow to attach the new mesh. There will be no pushing like there was in the past. He's just going to attach the new "absorbable" mesh to my abdominal muscles and cover the omphalocele. He said he'd be gentle. The new mesh can be absorbed by the body...tissue will grow over it, then, eventually skin. Please continue to pray for my health, recovery and strength...and please also continue to pray for Dr Flake. Thank you all very much!! Much love, Liam

More good news | May 21, 2007 at 01:27 PM EDT | Hello! It's difficult to type with shaking hands but wanted you all to know...surgery was a success! Dr Flake was given a big hug and when we get back to see Liam he will get lots of kisses. Dr Flake said, "things always take a little longer with Liam"...but that's what's gotten him him through this...he's so tough!! And of course, all your prayers have gotten us through our darkest hours...so glad to be able to share this good news with you all. You've been with us on this journey and we just wanted to share our happiness. Thank you! Love, Kate, Brian and Liam

Such good news! But I'll keep up with the prayers. I started crying when I saw Kate reading Goodnight Moon to Liam-- it is currently Catie's favorite book, but she has taken over reading it to ME (reciting from memory more than reading--she's 3 1/2). I pray that someday Kate gets to hear Liam "read" it to her.
