We need a FAQ on the board...

To save from endless questions from newbies about stuff that the long-timers take for granted I think we should have a Frequently Asked Questions list that we can point people to.  We could include such things as what all the nicknames, acronyms, etc. mean, as well as another spot to field questions about the lads' married status, and so forth.

I could volunteer to head up that project Smile

Columbine, now who would come on the board and post plastered???!!!Beer

Excellent idea BonnBon.  I think it should also include a link to the "help" button for the multitude of "How do I....."   questions that get asked.

Great, now I'm singing Charlie Horse over and over!

Re: We need a FAQ on the board...

Once the FAQ is compiled, I'd like to ask the programmers to add a screen when a new thread is started in the help section.  So when you click the New Post button, you get a screen or popup that says "Have you looked for an answer on our Frequently Asked Questions page?  If you are wondering about something, maybe someone else has too!" or something like that... and then has a button to to go to the FAQ page and a button that says "I've checked the FAQ and still need help" which would then take you to the new post screen.

Bonnie, that's a great idea and thanks for taking it on. I can't wait to read what the ad-'hic' committee comes up with! winked

I think once it's ready, this is definitely something we can make as an announcement at the top of the Help section; hopefully most people will know to check their first.

If you have any questions, or need any help, please let me know.

Re: We need a FAQ on the board...

Shall we build it here?  I can start us off with some acronyms.  I guess copy all the salient stuff into the next post so nobody's sorting back through pages and pages to find it.

ROTFL:  Rolling On The Floor Laughing

RTFM:  Read The Friendly Manual (in this case the main GBS site)

WTF:  An expression of incredulity, astonishment, or dismay

    IMHO:  In My Humble Opinion

OMG:  Oh My God, Goddess, or Goodness

OMB:  Oh My Bob (same connotations as above)

    STD:  Self-Titled Debut
    SONC:  Sea of No Cares
    SB*:  Something Beautiful
TH&TE:  The Hard and the Easy

OBD:  Old Brown's Daughter (which gets abbreviated a lot for some reason)

    SO:  Significant Other (spouse, sweetheart)

DH, DW, DD, DS:  Dear Husband, Wife, Daughter, or Son

And here's my attempt at using the List format for a question and an answer.

Q:  How old is (band member)?  Where does he live?  Was that his truck I saw on Water Street last Thursday?   Did his brother attend Shakespeare 102 at MUN with my best friend?

A:  The band members prefer to keep their private lives private.

Q:  Is French Perfume a true story?

    A:  (actually I don't know.)

    Love, Columbine

Re: We need a FAQ on the board...

I'm just strange enough to go back through all the posts....but then I've never claimed to be normal.  Or anywhere approaching normal, for that matter.

    You forgot one acronym, Columbine!

    FCYCMU...or some such thing Wink

I think collecting everything here would be great!  Then Charlie and I can compile them into one cohesive post.  I figure that by bringing a dead horse onto the ad*hic* committee would be perfect for dealing with the other dead horses that make an appearance once in a while...

Re: We need a FAQ on the board...

I am rather fond of the fact that this topic has its very own theme song, thanks for the add on Columbine! We're either a very creative lot, or we all need lives.
