HoneyintheSea:[ Bulls Eye #1 bbq sauce, nothin' beats it!
Except for THIS!!! http://www.montgomeryinn.com/ Outside of Skyline Chili, and Proctor&Gamble goods, the finest product to come out of Cincinnati! Great, great sauce (if you want a tomato-based product).

Just an aside, (get? a side??) that shrimp and cucumber salad was even better the second day. Since the recipe was given verbally, I don't have amounts but here it is: Slice a cucumber thinly (I used english, and only about half) into a bowl Add chopped green onions and celery and cold cooked shrimp. Toss with ranch dressing to taste (I used creamy cucumber) Yummy and easy, and nice with a steak! And as I say-next time I will make it the day before.

i know it sounds odd, but there is a GREAT southern living recipe (if i can find it ill post it later) for coleslaw with mustard. i know it sounds odd, but it is super super tasty! the add to the baerbeque cultural thing, i know everyone jokes about australia's "barbie" but when i lived there, i seriously thought they were barbequing dolls! it took about 2 years before i realized that the barbie WAS the barbeque!
it's not so bad. **before you get mad at someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Because then you will be a mile away, and you will have their shoes**

Y'all are playing my song!! The top pic that moneypenny posted is the way most places around here serve barbecue......butcher paper IS the good china lol. I live in Central Texas where bbq is legend and even the bad bbq is great. I never make bbq at home, since it so much easier to go out and pick some up. It's all in the sauce for me....I like a sweet, smokey, thick sauce that isnt too hot. Don't know why, but in the 1980s , someone decided that bbq and chili had to be hot ...as in burn your tastebuds off hot ...to be good. So wrong on so many levels that one. One thing I tried year ago tho that worked pretty good....I was grilling chicken breasts and didnt want them to dry out before they were cooked thru and I basted them with the juice from a jar of sweet pickles.....watermelon rind pickles actually. They turned out moist and it gave them a great flavor.

Finally had the time (and the weather!) to break out the grill for
the first time this season. Oh, yum! Barbecued pork
steaks...gotta be the inaugural meal of every grilling season! Question,
as it came up at dinner: Are pork steaks a strictly midwest
thing? I seem to recall hearing that this is about the only place
they seem to be popular...

Sounds good Sharneliz, have you ever found that if you use too much onion or celery that it affects the taste of the salad as a whole because shrimp on its own has such a delicate flavor? I guess I am thinking back to bad memories of shrimp or lobster salad sandwiches where too much onion or celery was used and the salad tasted like one or the other.

I have nothing relevant to say here, and this is the first time I've ever posted in the Food forum, but I read 'BBQ' and just had to think of Famous Dave's. My favorite dish there is the barbecued salmon. Barbecued Salmon at Famous Daves = Delicious1,000,000 All's I know is, I know what kind of food they serve in Heaven! (where the servers are scantily clad Shantymen, you are seated by Alan clones in leather pants and the night's entertainment is always "Naked Accordion Player's February Edition Presents...") Oh, jeez... bad time to be thinking about Famous Dave's and Naked Bob when my stomach is already growling something fierce...

Never heard of pork steaks here (not that I'd eat 'em!) We finally had some real spring weather, so grillled up burgers on Friday night and Texas BBQ steaktips on Saturday. First time I did steak tips for my wife (who's from the Ottawa area) she had never heard of them.

FeelFine: What a great thread. In Calgary you get the bbq nice and hot and u take a big ol' piece of AAA Alberta Beef and you thow it on wait 30 seconds, flip it, wait 30 seconds and eat! That's wha I'm talkin' about!
Ahh yes the Alberta Beef. throw one on for me too... No wait 'til I get there, don't want it over done! I'll bring the wine.

I love ribs! I boil them, the longer the better, coat them in bbq sauce, and while they are still steamin' hot, broil them till sizzlin'! mmm mmm good I can't eat them the next day tho, just don't taste the same, even if reheated. Nothing like succulent fall of the bone ribs!
