Smithwickes Murphy's stout Newcastle Guinness
Firechick, I'm with you on both Root and Birch! Have you ever had WHITE birch beer? I can't find it anymore but it had a lovely light, crisp taste!

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Northern brewery from northern Ontario (now closed) made a nice beer, Red Maple, it had a hint of maple syrup, smooth... I miss it. I now settle for Rickards Red, or at home I have Lakeport Honey Brown, one of our new bargain beers You know 24 for$24. but I dream of Red Maple

Re: What's your favourite beer?
I can't believe no one has even mentioned my favorite yet...
Schooner.
There is no other. Problem is it's not available in Ontario. Moosehead light tastes close.
When ordering in my local beer store, 6 are a "small rack of antlers - light", 12 are "a medium rack of antlers - light" and 24 are a "large rack of antlers - light". If ordering regular Moosehead it's simply "A rack of Antlers"
I'm also partial to the Lakeports... simple girl = simple beer.

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Kes, sorry I took so long to reply. Haven't checked this thread in awhile. As for the white birch beer, I'm a volunteer firefighter and they serve it to the kids (and myself) every parade. They still sell it in this part of CT, too. You're right, it does have a light, crisp taste. My favorite soda, by far! Steph

Re: What's your favourite beer?
I used to drink Beer beer (yes the actual name) in high school, $5 for a six pack. On my birthday I splurged and bought 12. Don't think I drank them all! I used to like Pilsner because I could count the bunnies on the label! *lol* It was also fun looking for the sasquatch on Kokanee. Sleeman's Honey Brown is also a good beer, sweet tasting but not the best if I don't want a hangover. Heineken rocks, and reminds me of our Seannie; because, the first time I saw GBS play, he was wearing a Heineken t-shirt. Heineken was our codename for Sean when Sheri and I talked about him. Until she told her husband the story!!!

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Right! A topic I can relate to!! I personally love real ales, especially anything from the Shepheard Neame Brewery (Spitfire, Bishops Finger etc). I am also partial to an Old Speckled Hen. However, for a really smooth barley wine, try something from the Woodforde's Brewery called Headcracker. It is a 7.0% beer, and is sooooo smooth and plummy, it just glides down!! Take care peeps, Nick

NorthernSpy, you have GREAT taste! I, too, love that Red Maple. It was the inspiration for the maple porter I homebrew. The first time I had it was after a trip to the Northern Brewery in Soo, ON. I drank a bottle at Mission Pt in Soo, MI. So, I now call my brew Mission Point Maple Porter, & I put pix of boats (usually lakers, with the occasional salty thrown in) taken from Mission Pt on the label. Believe it or not, you can still buy it at The Beer Store. http://www.thebeerstore.ca/Beers/branddetails.asp?id=0857 I got my last six-pack from the LCBO in Brantford. Hope you can enjoy some soon.

I just thought I would put my two cents in for my favorite beers:
Guiness Anchorsteam Porter McEwens Scotch Ale Samuel Adam's Octoberfest Leinenkugel's Creamy Dark
And if I am looking for some inexpensive...Bud Select

Re: What's your favourite beer?
I'm sorry, but this question just isn't right. Could you expect a parent to choose the favorite child from among several? Why can't we just spread the love?

Re: What's your favourite beer?
I haven't posted here because I'm not really a beer drinker, but I've discovered one I really like and have got a couple of people hooked on. It's called Hobgoblin. I initially bought it because Adrian collects bottles and it is a cool bottle, but of course, Adrian is 17, so someone other than him had to drink the beer! Jim started the bottle and gave me a sip. At first, I didn't really care for it, but I've grown to love it. I'm not at home right now or I'd post what the bottle says about it, but I know it's from England and it says it has a caramel chocolate undertone, I believe, tho I certainly can't taste anything like that. It has come to make any of the former beers I've drank like Stella and Corona taste like swill. I don't know if they sell it in beer stores, I buy it at the liquor store.
Some people shine like a star in the first moment. Others keep their light hidden until they are ready to show us.
