What's your favourite beer?
Hey Guys! Since this is the food and drink section I was wondering - What's your favourite beer? Mine is Boreal Blonde.

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Favorite beer? Hmmm.... I'm more of a mead drinker but since very few liquor stores or bars even know what mead is, I default to Black & Tans when I want to have to crawl home at bar time or Guinness when I just want to have a laid back evening. For some reason Black and Tans (mixing that Guinness with Bass Ale) gets me far loopier than Guinness straight up...

Re: What's your favourite beer?
I am off beer the past couple years, but in ales I like Keiths, in stouts I like Guiness or Garrison Brown, in reds I like Garrison Red, in cloudy imports I dig Hoegaarden, on the summer patio I can be talked into a raspberry wheat ale.

Re: What's your favourite beer?
When visiting my friends "North of the Border", I LOVE Keith's!! Can't get it here in the States though, so down here, I would have to settle for Stella Artois... mostly because I love to order it as "STEEEEELLLLAAAAA!!!!" ala Marlon Brando. Sometimes I just make myself chuckle.

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Guinness has to be at the top for me, though it's never tasted the same over here since I had it in Ireland. They can get Guinness so right, but I can't believe Magners comes from the same country. Mackeson and Murphys, Zywiec when I can get it, otherwise Stella Artois for when I'm just plain thirsty! This is my second post in this thread, let's see how long this one stays posted!

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Hello Nina. Firstly, your Guinness should taste the same, as the London brewery has closed and all the UK Guinness is made in Dublin now. I do drink Guinness, tho only if I can't get a real ale in the pub. My own favourites (all real ales) are: - JHB: a wheat beer, sweet at first then quite dry aftertaste From Oakham Brewery (3.8%)
- Black Sheep Ale: pale & refreshing from The Black Sheep Brewery, Masham, Yorkshire (4.4%)
- Riggwelter: dark beer, also from Black Sheep, 5.7% If you can find it on draught, the Rigg is a whopping 5.9%
- and just about any of the Badger Brewery beers, esp Champion (4.6%) with its elderflower taste
For a one-off drink, usually at the end of a road-trip/ picnic, I take a bottle of Jamaican "Dragon Stout". It's quite strong, 7.5%, and so it's usually shared out. It comes in small bottles (284ml) and is about £1 in the corner shop nearby. I should add, that except for St.Patrick'sDay, I've been 'dry' since last summer, even tho there are bottles of all the above in my kitchen. It would be interesting to try some of the Canadian/ American brews mentioned. Should be easy enough from a decent beer seller. You can buy all of the others from your local supermarket, should you wish to try something other than the over-priced lager you drink! Cheers! ps: talking of Badger, that just reminded me of another Canadian folk group ~ Tanglefoot (it's the name of their strong beer too at 5.1%)

Cheek! I'll have you know I'm older than you. Actually the Ziwiec is a real treat, my Dad was born in the next village to Ziwiec in Poland so you could say I have genetic tendencies towards it. The Stella I usually nick when my lodger isn't looking, sort of like when he pinches my baking. Don't tell the police We have some Black Sheep to try because another lodger's just back from Yorkshire, if it's good I'll shout about it!

Re: What's your favourite beer?
One of my favorite topics. I’m a homebrewer & love good beers. I tend to lean toward spicy amber ales & strong IPAs—usually English IPAs that have a slight sweet fruitiness to them to balance out the hops. My favorite homebrewed beer so far has been a maple porter made with locally produced maple syrup. If folks get to the Metro Detroit area, my favorite breweries are Dragonmead in Warren & Sherwood Brewing Company, a new brewery in Shelby township by Lakeside Mall. Dragonmead usually seems to have anywhere from 30 to 50 of their beers on tap at all times, & all of Sherwood’s brews, from light to dark, are interesting & unique in their own ways. None tastes like a watered-down version of another. Sherwood also does their own wines, for the non-beer set. In Detroit proper, the Detroit Beer Company & Motor City Brewing Works are both wonderful places to go. Motor City also does some meads. Went to the Kalamazoo GBS concert last week & hit the Olde Peninsula Brewpub for dinner & a couple pints before the show. Their stout is to die for—rich & thick, but it’s not a dry stout. I used to live in the Kalamazoo area & went to Bell’s all the time (their Amber Ale is a favorite). Olde Peninsula was a new place when I moved from the area, but I loved it the short time I had. A nostalgic favorite is their Black Raspberry: a mix of their stout & raspberry wheat. I had it before the GBS show last week. Between the great food, great beer, great company, & great concert, I felt like I died & went to Heaven! For folks who want to try craft-brewed Michigan beers, check the link below for a directory. http://www.michiganbeerguide.com/directory.asp Cheers, everyone!

Re: What's your favourite beer?
I'm kind of spoiled when it comes to beer. There's a Rock Bottom a couple miles from my apartment that's my home bar, and they brew all there own beer on-site. I actually got to take the tour a few nights ago, that was pretty cool. I mostly drink their Raptor Red, a really good amber. They tapped a new amber called The Fire Chief a bit ago that's a bit lighter and sweeter than Raptor Red. It's pretty good. I also really love the heffeweizen from the beer cart at California Adventure. When I go in May I'll have to pay attention to who makes it. When I can't get those, I'll usually order a Killian's. I tried Smithwick's on St. Patrick's Day and that was pretty good, too.

Magner's is awful! It smells like a horse barn! Which is an OK smell for a horse barn, but not a good taste for cider. Love, Columbine (wondering if mushrooms like it)

Re: What's your favourite beer?
Why does some draft smell like skunk which is bad for beer but good for other skunky smelling weeds. The first time I tried Guinness was at The Pogue Fado after the first GBS show last year. The second time was at The Old Triangle after the seond night of the GBS show. I noticed a difference in taste and thought the second Guinness the best. A little side note that GBS had their after Juno party at The Old Triangle last year. What beer do I like, well I'll try any beer. Lately when I have a couple it is Coors Light. Now don't call me a wimp, because some of you might. I know I used to when someone drank a light beer. I'm like "What for, not when you can get hi-test 6%!"

Re: What's your favourite beer?
My two favourite beers are Harp and Keith's. As for you Guinness drinkers - apparently if you don't think the bar or pub is pouring the Guiness the right way you can phone your local Guinness rep and tell them - they will actually send someone to that bar and show them how to pour a perfect Guinness.
