    back to top link

I think it would be great to have a 'back to top' link at the bottom of each page...

Some threads are long and it can mean a lot of scrolling up.

    Re: back to top link

Or even better... repeat the breadcrumb navigation at the bottom of the page, eliminating the need to get back to the top!

    Example:  Breadcrumb navigation:

GreatBigSea.com > Last But Not Least > Suggestion Box > Re: back to top link

Great Idea Kes, would save some work for the admins - just copy/paste the existing code...

    Re: back to top link

We will be adding breadcrumbs to the bottom of the forums. If you'd still like a 'Back to Top' button, let me know, and maybe we can add that too.

I think breadcrumbs should do the trick, though. Except them soon!

    Re: back to top link

I'm confused. Of course, I am often that way. Please explain breadcrumbs to me? I know the idea but...

Kestrel copied and pasted it into her post. I wish I knew the exact origin of the term 'breadcrumbs' but it is basically the little navigation links that are currently at the top of the forum pages. You can use them to move back through the forums to the main page. We will be adding them to the bottom, as I suspect this is why people are requesting a "Back to Top" link.

    nicopop:

I wish I knew the exact origin of the term 'breadcrumbs' ...

It's the series of links you had to follow to get where you are.  For instance, you started with the GreatBigSea.com forum.... then went to the Last But Not Least forum... then to the Suggestion Box forum... and then into the back to top thread. So, much like Hansel and Gretel intended, it's giving you a path to follow back to where you came from.  So there you have it... breadcrumbs... Since it IS navigation, it also gives you the option of jumping to any point along the way by clicking on it.

Unfortunately, with the breadcrumbs at the top of the page only, you have to run around the gingerbread house to find your breadcrumb trail home and hope the crows haven't eaten them up by the time you get there.  So thank you, Nicole for taking the steps to add the breadcrumbs at the bottom so they'll be closer at hand.
