    Re: Craftypants! :)

I used to buy cheap vinyl tablecloths to put under the chairs.  Actually it started because when Adrian was born we lived in an apartment, so there was carpeting in our eating area so I put the vinyl tablecloth under his high chair and then carried it on into crafts as he got older.  Now when Chelsea uses glitter, I make sure she has a plastic place mat under her work and then I just take it over to the trash can and dump the glitter off the mat.  But I still have glitter everywhere anyway!  On the table, on my feet, on the cat....!

Thanks, Andi - those are all good tips!  I especially like the cookie tray idea.  And I don't know why I never thought of giving them each their own container of crayons......sometimes the best solutions are the really simple ones!

When my oldest son was in daycare a couple of years ago, he came home one day with glitter in his diaper - not sure exactly how that happened!  LOL!

No one  knows how it happens, it's just there, like a curse!  I've actually looked at glitter on my socks and thought, 'she didn't use glitter today. or yesterday. or this month!'!! But there it is!  I swear, my kids will be out on their own and I'll still be finding glitter!

I gave a friend a birthday card with glitter in it once, and a month later he said it was STILL all over his house, his clothes, his wife - his co-workers had started calling him Glitter Boy.

Good for you! There are definitely worse names to be called than 'glitter boy' ... give me a sec and I'll think of one Angel .. just joshin'.

I did that same thing for an ex once (it was big party-themed glitter, mind you, so it was easy to collect afterwards). By his reaction, I should have known he wasn't for me. Jester Some people just totally miss the magic. Bounce

I am not really "crafty" but I enjoy cross stiching when I have time... At Christmas me and my boys make Mama, (My mom), Grannie (Bill's mom) and Grandma and Grandpa (My dad and his wife) Christmas Ornaments... last year we made, angels, rudolph, santa and the bodies were little clay pots... and really the rest was pom poms... lace and sparkle things... The year before we just bought cheap christmas balls and placed their painted hand print on them and then painted in the year... BIG HIT with Grandparents... Big Smile Especially babies first Christmas.... make sure you buy balls that "fit" the hand... we had a problem with Jaryd as he was six already... he like wrapped his whole hand around it.. lol... thought that counts... right!!! Wink

This year I am going to attempt to make Christmas cards... we shall see... lol... If I can get that kit at Costco... I have the coupon ready to go... they go on sale Next weekend.... YIPEEE...

I LOVE my glue gun... too!!!

Nice mask Amanda... that is some fine work there...

Don't get me started on glitter... my oldest who has always loved to do crafts... or when he needs to do school projects... I find glitter months later... lol.. I do like the idea of the vinyl tableclothes... I think I may pick some up...

Excellent idea andi about the little 99 cent kits... I should make one up of each of my kids... that would eliminate the fights... or having to wait fors..... would make chirstmas crafts much more enjoyable...

Everytime we do christmas crafts... is it just my kid... but I end up making crafts all by myself like half way through it... lol...

    Canadian Lisa--
No, it is not just you!  That happens with me and my kids probably half the time.  If the craft takes too long, they lose interest.  Or if I don't get everything all set up and prepared ahead of time and they have to wait while I do it, I lose them!

*shudder* glitter. love the stuff sometime but will NOT have it around with kids. They were at a party about two years ago and the mom put glitter in all the girls hair. I was not impressed it took at least a year for all of it to finally disappear.

Trace I'm heading over there to read it now :)

And alot like fleas, just when you think you've finally gotten rid of it, you find more!

    Re: Craftypants! :)

I didn't see this thread before!    I've been talking to our Youth Workers about the arts & crafts section of the club, and I found myself saying "oh, I can do that" to virtually everything they suggested:

T-shirt painting, embroidery of various sorts, needlepoint, fashion design, beading & jewellery, card-making, teddy bears, papier mache, clay art, mosaics & collage...... been there, taught the little cousins, got several T-shirts, all nicely decorated.

Got some photos somewhere too, but I tend to sell or give away most of the stuff I make, as I get bored with it after I've done it!  Having said that I'll try to post some pics if other people do :)

And andi, thanks for the tips, they're going to be put into practice at our Club in the very near future!

    TinaCap--

My daughter is convinced that hot glue can fix anything!  And it almost can!  Believe me, I've fixed a lot of things with hot glue and been surprised a some of the results!  A glue gun is a definite must have!

Sounds like the next best thing to duct tape!!!Stick out tongue

I am so UNcrafty it's laughable.  I keep trying different things to see if I'm good at anything, but it always turns out like crap.  I can come up with some great idea's, but they can't flow from my brain down to my fingers.
