I would also give my deepest gratitude to anyone that that would be able to post the chords to Tickle Cove Pond. I love that song, but like CapoKidd am not able to get past the G, D's to what lies between.

But thanks to everyone for the other chords, I'm enjoying the songs even more now!

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

no problem guys, its the same through the whole song, i also have a ron hynes version of this song somewhere in the ol' cd bin, anyway, you guys are right for the most part of tickle cove pond, at least its how i play it, and i think it matches up with the gbs version. classic newfoundland song, awesome choice, you feel good after playing and singing this song.

    alright so
(*!) --> i dont know what this chord is called, but its pretty much the D chord that is already being played, stay with me here, all you do is take your index finger that is normally playing the g string second fret, and move it up one string to the d string second fret, keeping your other fingers in d chord formation

    (G) In cuttin and haulin' in (D) frost and in snow
    we're (D) up against (*!) troubles that (C) few people (D) know
its (G) only by courage and (D) patience and grit
and (D) eatin plain (*!) food that we (D) keep ourselves (G) fit
the (EMinor) hard and the (BMinor) easy we (EMinor) take as they (Bminor) come
and (Aminor) when ponds freeze over we (D) shorten our runs
to (G) hurry my haulin with (D) spring coming on
i near (D) lost me a (*!) mare out on (D) tickle cove (G) pond.
(then the chorus is the same thing)

    (D) Lay (G) Hold william oldford lay (D) hold william white
lay (D) hold of the (*!) cordage and (C) pull all your (D) might lay
    (G) hold of the bowline and (D) pull all ya can' and (D) give me a (*!) lift with poor (D) kit on the (G) pond

the rest follows the same patterns, i hope its not too confusing to understand, i love this friggin song, so i hope you guys can learn it and pass it on. cheers to you all, and keep on keepin irish.nfld. folk alive!

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

    Thats IT!!!!

Thanks , I really was getting close!
But dont think I ever would have found that darn *!

I kind of thought there was a C in there
...but it sometimes looked like it alternated with a Cadd9
(so close to G it was hard to make out).
and I figured there was some version of an A chord in there too (Aminor)

The Em I had, but the Bm confused me because I dont think its a chord I've ever used.

    Huge Help bodhranman

You saved me many a frustrating evening, I think my G/F was getting tired of me practicing over and over with the CD and the DVD.

on an aside note, there is also a quick Dsus4 at the end of each line ending in D where Alan does a hammer-on or pull-off with his pinky on the high e-string (3rd fret)

I gotta say that song is my new Fav on the CD,
that darn Captain Kidd is too darn quick for me yet.

    Thanks Again

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

Wow...thanks all of you who've responded to this thread. I'm especially grateful for the Tickle Cove Pond chords. I like the song more and more, as I listen to it.

I've got hours of practising to tide me over now! Woot! Hopefully, these will pique my wife's interest to once again pick up her guitar and play with me.

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

    Well bodhranman
after much practice, and closer review of the DVD with pause, rewind, play , repeat.
(and a stack of chord charts I printed off the net)
...I have concluded the myserious !* chord is not used by Alan.
(and I just could not get it to sound right to my ear).

Here's a slightly modified version of your tab.
Try em both with the DVD and see if I'm close? ;-)

    Tickle Cove Pond

In (G)cuttin and haulin' in (D) frost and in snow (Dsus4)
we're (Cadd9) up against troubles that (D) few people know (Dsus4)
its (G) only by courage and (D) patience and grit
and (Cadd9)eatin plain food that we (D) keep ourselves (G) fit
the (Em) hard and the (Bm) easy we (Em) take as they (Bm) come
and (C) when ponds freeze over we (C/D)shorten our (D)runs (Dsus4)
to (G) hurry my haulin with (D) spring coming on
I near (Cadd9) lost me a mare out on (D) tickle cove (G) pond.
(then the chorus is the same thing)

    (D) Lay (G) Hold william oldford lay (D) hold william white
lay (D) hold of the (Cadd9) cordage and pull all your (D) might
(G)lay hold of the bowline and (D) pull all ya can'
and (Cadd9) give me a lift with poor (D) kit on the (G) pond.

    ..........EADGBe
    G.......(320033)
    D.......(x00232)
    Dsus4.(x00233)
    Cadd9 (x32033)
    Em.....(022000)
    Bm.....(xx4432)
    C.......(x32010)
    C/D....(320010)

    optional chords
Cadd9: the 3 on the e string is optional
    as is
G Chord: the 3 on the B string.
Bm: you can also leave off the 2 on the e

    I know its not perfect,I'm a n00bie remember ;-)
    ...never tab'd a song before.

the bass line on the CD throws me off a bit
because it sometimes sounds like there is one more chord just before
(or just after) the Caddd9 before returning to D.
It may be as simple as alternating the bass string on the Cadd9 chord,
by hitting the A string on the first strum, and skipping the A and
hitting the D string 1st on the second strum. baffled

Maybe thats where the !* goes?

    Thanks CapoKid

I was trying to play that last night, and it was clsoe, but it seemed a little off.

I'll try this out when I'm home tonight.

    Thanks!

    Baldie

I've been playing that latest version along with the dvd,
watching a listening and I'm sure its' 95% accurate.

I still think there is one more chord in there
...but that damn coffee mug doesn't want me to have that last 5%.

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

You guys rock! I was wondering how long it would be until I'd be able to find TH&TE chords, seeing as so many Something Beautiful ones aren't online. Kudos to you guys for doing it! On a similar note, does anyone have the chords for Beat the Drum, Lucky Me and Let It Go?

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

I was going to work on some more songs this week, while I'm on vacation... although I brought a guitar, I forgot to bring THTE! So if nobody else has figured Tickle Cove Pond out by Sunday, I'll take a crack at it then.

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

Here's the chords I figured out to one of the little talked about songs on the album - but one of my favorites, French Shore.

    Intro
(this is a strange sequence because it's backwards from the rest of the song, but this is what I hear)
    D Em A G

    All verses
    D G A D
    G D (quick Dsus2) back to D
    G D Bm
    A D Bm G A D
    (short A in between verses)

    Dsus2 - XX0320
