Re: The George Street Café
My dad used to always say that all middle schools should be private military boarding schools. I agree. Kids don't want to be around thier parents and parents often don't want to be around those raging hormoned emotional wrecks. I too went to prom with a big group of friends and had a ball. I am not really a prom person but it was wonderful and fun, and fun to get all dressed up and celebrate!
Everyone likes to have something to do, can you find the spelling errors in my post?

Re: The George Street Café
Ah, Prom. Editorial note, growing up in Ontario, we didn't do " senior prom" so much as "grad." Same deal tho, fancy dresses, boys in tuxedos, some folks get limos, drunken debauchery afterwards. I had the dubious pleasure off attending THREE "proms." I was dating a guy in my older brother's graduating class so I went to his "grad" much to his chagrin. My date treated me like absolute crap through the whole thing....he actually told me to shut up at one point, that I was there to be his arm ornament, not to chat with his friends. Needless to say, there was dumpage after that night. The second one was my grade 12 grad from the Catholic High School I attended and hated. (Assumption, in Burlington, if anyone is curious) I was considered a "punk rock freak" by most of my classmates (it was the mid 80's) and had about 6 friends. We knew the music would suck (and boy did it ever) but we went anyway. I found this great dress, that was beautiful, but different from the stereotypical froofy "prom" dress that all the preppies and cheerleaders would be wearing, and I'll be G** D***ed if Queen Preppy Cheerleader didn't the SAME DRESS on. Gaaaaaaaaaawd!! Afterwards some folks had rented a hotel room or two to party in, my date was only 2 years older than me but LOOKED 30, when we showed up, everyone scattered, because he was wearing a suit and folks thought he was the Hotel Manager come to break up the party. I was home asleep in bed by 1:00 am. The third one was a BLAST! For Grade 13 (which doesn't exist anymore) I tranferred to the Public School-I was 18 and there was nothing my parents could do about it. I had LOTS of "punk rock" friends, and we all went as one big amorphous mass of people together. Most of the girls got their dresses in vintage clothings stores, myself included. So my dress was VERY retro, cost $25, and I wore it with black fishnet stockings and kitten heeled granny boots. Aaaah, the 80's were fun.. I think I have a pic....lemme see.... Here ya go:
Grainy as hell, and you can't see much of the dress, but you get the idea of the "look" I was, I think, hammered in this picture. And OMg, skinny. Sigh, oh for the days when I'd show the world my upper arms. I obscured my ex boyfriend to protect his privacy.

I too did the "grad" thing. There was a group of us who all went together, had a blast. The 'theme' was casino, so we had all kinds of games going on with fake $$ of course seeing as it was being held in the school gym :-) We all met before hand, dressed to the nines of course, went for dinner and then......we went to the zoo! It was hilarious, all of us walking around all dressed up, there's even a few pictures of us on the playground equiment in our dresses/tuxs. It was a great night.

I've been eavesdropping from the table in the corner. my laptop's open and I'm supposed to be working while my in-laws have the kids but... iIdid prom in Ontario and did have a date but a couple friends when together and all of us used their 'couple' photo for a great group shot. The dress, the hair, the date - all sources of embarrassment now but I'm glad I did it.

Re: The George Street Café
Aah, grad. Weird to think it was 5 years ago already! I went to a private Christian school in a small town, so my graduating class consisted of 9 people, 7 of which were girls. Those boys probably know more about women than most. ;) It was a great time, reminiscing about good times, bad times, and pranking the teachers. (some of whom were SHOCKED that we were the perpetrators!) And any occasion that I get to wear a pretty dress is a winner in my opinion! Stephanie

Re: The George Street Café
for me it's like 'yechk....only one more year till grad....' i dread grad. I dont drink, i don't like most of the people in my class, and i will have to go to every party to take care of my inebriated twin who will of course have to speak with everybody and anybody. And then they of course have to kick me while im down and have me in a dress. I might actually take up drinking for one night so i hopefully wont remember it lol

Hey Brit, there are some really nice dressy pants out there...formal doesn't necessarily mean a dress!

(Columbine selects a clean glass and puts her hand on the Murphy's tap with a quiet "please, please, please..." and gives the handle a pull.) Yes! O foamy slurpiness from Planet Yum! My home server is going away. This means I've got until the 12th to adapt and transfer all my pages. That may sound simple if you're good at coding, but this is the server I've been on since 1996, learning to bang out HTML in emacs (I'm a dinosaur), and my pages are kludged and crosslinked like some sort of infernal cat's cradle. I'm sure I'll get it working in some form more or less in time, but after 2 weeks I'm still on the letter C. I've been a codin' fool, in a very literal sense! Yuck.
Love, Crosseyed Columbine (who is taking tomorrow off the day job AND my own confounded work to do a bit of gardening and go to a party anyway!) Ha - iTunes just pulled up the Young Dubs' "Breathe." Between my computer and my cat, I'll get through this!

Re: The George Street Café
Hi everyone. I haven't been here in months. I love the new look of this website. I went to a Nine Inch Nails concert, and I almost wish I hadn't. I was lucky to get out alive. Some girl hit me on the head with a beer bottle and I later ended up with a concussion. There was a LOT of drug use at that show as well. Never again. For some reason the NIN experience reminded me of how cool GBS fans are compared to other music fans. GBS attracts the nicest people on the planet, I find. I have never had a bad day at a GBS concert or at this OKP board. This is the nicest music forum on the net. You guys really are the best. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about your concert incident Meredith. Hope you're feeling better now.
This was sad too. I love Harry Potter. The guy who plays Marcus Belby was just murdered yesterday. He was only 18.

Re: The George Street Café
Hi everyone. I haven't been here in months. I love the new look of this website. I have really missed alot by the looks of things. Anyhow. Things are ok on this end well so far anyway. Just thought I would come in and say hi. See whats new and so on. I am still making jewelry so I have been really busy for the last 2 weeks all the kids have been sick on and off. Something is going around. Does anyone know what heel spers are. Not the kind that go on cowboy boots? If it ain't arthritis it's something else. Sucks to be me at the moment. Well gotta go for now. I will keep the Lall and Bowerman families in my thoughts and prayers as well. Take care everyone. April.

Paula, saw your facebook avatar. WOW! Is that your grad dress? Either way, you look fabulous.
