Re: The George Street Café
Well... you know Jorge isn't Alan's only assistant. Did you giggle out loud when you encountered that question? I know I would have. That reminds me of my own GBS/school-related funny. Last spring, shortly after joining the OKP and immediately after a rather lengthy posting session, I scurried to my chemistry class for a quiz to find the first question involved balancing a chemical equation consisting of oxygen, potassium and phosphorous (O, K, and P!) It indeed made me giggle. (Oooh! Maybe Carlos is Sean's Hispanic Other Half. You never know with that Sean. He is a Gemini, after all.)

Hey everyone, Long time no post!! I can't believe there are over 700 pages to this thread!! There is no way I'm going to try and catch up!! So, how's everyone's life going? Mine is going all right. Job is stressing me out and I seem to be sick which sucks since it is Friday but hopefully it will be better by tomorrow so I can at least enjoy my weekend. Anyways, just wanted to pop on and say hi!

Well, it's raining here, but it's one of those nice, gentle spring rains that hopefully won't flood the lower parking lot like it did on Tuesday...
On the other hand, today was the last day of Spring Fling, and I won a Wii and Mario Kart in the raffle! Yay me!

Re: The George Street Café
We are DONE with the house painting!! Who wants to join me in a celebration drink? I am buying!!! SO, here it is! http://s273.photobucket.com/albums/jj237/binny89/ I am SO happy with it!! We have all the crap cleared out, the porch painted, the round up down for the landscaping, the middle cross post is into the cement, and the doors done. It has been one busy day! All that is left is to cut down the cross bars for the railing and install them and buy some new plants for the front beds. I am sunburned, sore and exhausted. It was all worth it though.

Re: The George Street Café
I've been doing it for a while now with a company in Montreal. Never been paid nore than $75 though. Best is when you show up, they don't need everyone they called, and you get paid anyway. The unfortunate part is a lot of the focus groups are full at the times I can do them so I don't get to do them very often. I've done crackers, commercials, I have an on-going one with sanitary napkins. They hooked me up with Johnson and Johnson and I test then on average every 2 months. Get paid and I don't have to buy supplies.

Re: The George Street Café
to promenade or not? that is the question.
i have been invited to go with a group of freinds to prom, however i am an extremely awkward child at such dance/sexonthedancefloor events. i tried homecoming this year, that was short of a disaster.
however, apparently "prom" is not what is used to be, the afterparties and such are more popular so everyone only goes to the actual dance for all of 30 minutes. and my group has proposed midnight bowling, which i really think would be fun in an evening dress.
the other thing is that tickets are expenzive, a dress would be expensive, shoes would be expensive... all for a dance i dont want to go to.
dressing up would be the 'most fun' part (ohmygosh im a teenager), and being with my friends would be lovely. but honestly, would it be worth it? poop cognitive dissonance.
it's not so bad. **before you get mad at someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Because then you will be a mile away, and you will have their shoes**

Re: The George Street Café
Hey Paula, try a second hand store for a dress you can get some amazing dresses for under $10. some vintage (read they were popular when *I* would have gone to prom!) some are really pretty nice and just last years dresses. Or ask a friend if they have any they would able to lend you. You might surprised. Go, have fun, I bet you will never say "I wish I hadnt gone" but you might well say " I wish I had" :) Enjoy it now, life is too short. And bowling in a dress sounds like great fun if you have a lot of friends with you!

Re: The George Street Café
Cool find in my own home - I was going through some old folders and stumbled upon my daughter's Brownies folder from 10 years ago. There was a song book in there and low and behold one of the songs was "Donkey Riding" - the words were a little bit different but there it was just the same. Looked like it was typed on a manual typewriter; have no idea who typed it. Who knew - GBS was in my house before I knew they even existed. Robin

Re: The George Street Café
I went to my senior prom with three of my female friends in a dress my great-grandmother made for my mother. Sophomore year I went in a second-hand dress with my best friend (a guy, as it happened). Freshman year I went in a dress that had been my oldest sister's. I try to forget the guy. The only dress that had to be paid for still only cost about $50, and they were all gorgeous. Second-hand stores, thrift stores, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and yard sales are all good places to check- a couple of years ago I picked up two formal black gowns and a pair of heels for $3.
Good luck!

Re: The George Street Café
Hello everyone! i'm not usually on many threads, but I can tell you things are getting interesting around me. Anyways, I am hoping to set up somewhat of a kitchen party here in Ottawa. Plus I hope to meet some of you folks at the Great Big Sea show at Bluesfest. Should be fun!

Paulawalla:to promenade or not? that is the question.
Paula, you sound like me! I haven't attended a school dance in 5 years, and I can't say I miss them. Up here, you always get people who take it too far, and the over sensitive girls who cry at the drop of a hat, and the skanks who get themselves kicked out, etc... Prom sounds like an expensive pain in the butt to me. However, I find all the talk about "secret" dresses and "Oh-my-God-I-hope-so-and-so-doesn't-have-the-same-dress-as-me" stressed to be quite entertaining. Midnight bowling sounds very fun though. Do you have to go to prom to do it? Why not just do the afterparties? I am one to avoid dancing (with sober people) at all costs. I'm still deciding. I don't want to go, and I'm certain I won't, but I keep getting all these people telling me how much I'll regret it if I don't. WG -- Hey! What's happening? Nice to see you, if only briefly!
