Sean - guitar(acoustic and electric), bodhran, whistle, shakers, tambourine, drums

Alan - guitar (electric and acoustic), bouzouki, mandolin, piano, drums and I've seen him play Sean's bodhran

Bob - guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, whistle, bagpipes, button accordion, shakers, Irish flute and I have a feelng like I've forgotten something

How many?  Bob Hallett?  Oh, heavenly day!
There's no one can tell you just what he can play.
We know he plays whistle and mando and zouk
Of course he plays fiddle (and pipes, but don't look)
    A herd of accordions, D, G, and Q
And I bet he can play the piano kind too,
And just plain piano, and e'en glass harmonica
Theremin, steel cello, drums, and euphonica.
I'm sure that at nose flute he's quite unexceeded,
And can even play qarkabeb when such is needed.
The few he's not played yet, he's just not consented -
The ones that he can't play have not been invented!

I'm fond of saying that Bob Hallett could blow into an old boot an make music come out of it.  But that would be show-offy.

    Re: The George Street Café

The day I see Bob playing a qarkabeb, I'll be a monkey's uncle! I have yet to get a proper sound out of mine. I guess I'll have to get Jim or Lekbir to show me how. It looks easier than it is.

Thanks, all- the presentation went great, and I think I made a few converts! They were definitely impressed by the sheer number of instruments these guys play!

The Seuss would be proud. Very worthy of the Book of Seuss. Very worthy, indeed.

True dat. I only had about thirty seconds to respond Friday or I'd have said more. And now that I have the time, I can't think of what to say, other than "bloody brilliant!"

YAY!!!  I'd have liked to have been in your audience for that.

I did a PowerPoint on Newfoundland two fall semesters ago that I was darn proud of.  And another last spring in Cultural Anthropology on art, but I was given the section on visual art, not music.  But there was a small paragraph in said section on sea shanties, and you can bet that I milked that for all it was worth! (Plus I made it a point to put a picture of Bob on every slide!  And I justified the escessive Bobness in a way that satisfied my teacher, so she ended up laughing rather than docking points.)

    Re: The George Street Café

Long time no see indeed, Rebekah!  (as you can see by these jovial smilies, I have turned 21 in your absence.  Not that that means anything - I haven't had a lick of alcohol since, and only a few tiny licks before that)

My dad and I drove all the way to Canton, Ohio yesterday (about an hour and a half from us) to get tickets to see Dave Barry next month as part of Kent State's Featured Speakers Series.  After we got back and I was leaving his apartment, I happened to glance down at the bottom of the staircase and noticed this pattern in the carpet.  I thought it was pretty neat so I took a picture with my cell phone.

Can you see the face in the carpet?

What do you think it means?Smile
