My beautiful thing for today was a perfect cup of coffee from Tim's. Yeah, I know they make good coffee on a regular basis, but this was perfect. A superb cupa java!
My migraines were hormonal in nature, so some major female type surgery has now had the added benefit of getting rid of those dreadful headaches! I still get the odd one if I'm too stressed out, but if that happens I try to remember that "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts" and desserts are something beautiful! As for the perfect cupa java, I'm just finishing a little brown jug from Tim's right now and it too was something beautiful. Life is too short not to see the beauty in all things, even something as ordinary as a good cup of coffee. Cheers, Joyce!

Helen, Kitty Brown, Nance, and everyone else - Smudge says prrrrrrrrr! to all of you! I agree about the beauty of a good cup of coffee - or a tall glass, with ice, of ultra-dark roast with a shot of almond-vanilla. Cheers to y'all! Love, Columbine and Smudge, neither of whom are even Southern

I'm going to see BNL on monday! My sister just asked me if I wanted to go with her and her friend. Of course, I said yes! I didn't even know they were in town. I know. I'm ignorant So, anybody seen them? First time ever for me.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
I've always loved Laura Ingall Wilder (Little House on the Prairie). Molly (7) just began reading the series and loves them too. Well, tonight my daughter had her 2nd Grade music concert, and they were asked to wear Pioneer costumes. My Mom had made Molly a prairie dress and bonnet and mailed it to her for the little show. Molly had a speaking part and a dancing part, and she looked so sweet in her dress, with her brown eyes and brown raids, just like Laura! She was so proud of her self, and I was too. Here's my "Little Girl On the Prairie" my Something Beautiful* today.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
Well... going back to yesterday: I got in to work to learn that I had won a $50 gift card. WooHOO! Then in the afternoon my entire department went out to CiCi's for lunch and then to see Dreamer (movie), all on the company's dime (We saw our volumes increase by 3000% [yes, thousand] a couple weeks ago and this was thank you, of sorts, for all the hard work we've put in on that). After the movie, I ran Teresa home and then ran home myself, just long enough to take the dog out and feed him, then ran BACK across town to pick up my friend Donna. We then proceeded post haste on the 2.5 hr trip to Toledo to catch the Glengarry Bhoys. Things like broken-down 18-wheelers and gusty winds slowed us enough to make us late... but in retrospect, I'm rather glad of that! (I'll explain in a minute.) We came in in the middle of Zigue Zon so we were both dancing and singing along at the door (idiot carded me *snorts*... then proceeded to exclaim "What a baby face! You're almost as old as I am!" :P ). We settled in the corner and had a great time. At the break, both Ziggy and Graham came over and greeted us with hugs. It's so nice to be appreciated. While talking with Graham I learned that they are hoping for the new CD to be out early next year (like Jan!)... WooHOO! They went back on stage for another great set. For those of you that don't know, they recently went through a major upheaval... Ziggy decided that he could practice law well into old age but being a touring musician was a limited time offer so he came back to the band. They also have TWO new fiddlers/step dancers (Brandon and Miranda) and a new piper/multi-instrumentalist (Ewan) as well as Graham2 who joined the band last year on bass. I saw this set-up on their third gig together back in October and it was great to see how far they have come in such a short while. They are becoming a more cohesive group and learning how to play off of each other and with each other so well. And what a voice Miranda has! After the gig I spoke with just about all of them (conversations ranged from which beer has more calories/carbs, Dr. Phil and Mary Kate Olsen, unjustified traffic tickets, promotional photoshoots, and how Graham2 would look performing with an armload of bangles), but I probably spent the most time talking to Graham: (roughly... can't remember EXACTLY) Me: So we came in in the middle of Zigue Zon... what did we miss? ~sigh~ Graham: Only three songs... but you missed my new one! Shame on you! Me: Which one? Graham: Alberta! Me: Ooh... we heard it in Dayton... that's a nice one. Graham: It's even better. Better every time we do it. Me: (jokingly)Well since we missed it you'll just have to sing it just for us... Graham: ~sings... a cappella, quietly, just for us~ And thus you have the reason I didn't mind the delays! It was a late night and no sleeping in for me this morning... but so very much worth it. I can't wait for the new CD! Check them out at www.glengarrybhoys.com. And then this morning, the traffic ticket I've been fighting for a month was dismissed. Go me! I was so very much in need of a turn of events... thanks be to the gods for a little balance!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
Wow - what a couple of days you've had Kestrel! My Something Beautiful for today is Cassidy - a 4 year old girl with Down Syndrome that I take care of. She's one of those children that you can't help but fall in love with. She's a very social child - she says hello to everyone she sees (and occasionally to inanimate objects too). It's not unusual to see grown men play games of copy cat with her on the bus. Cassidy didn't do anything unusual today - she was just being her beautiful self. And that's good enough for me! Mandy

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
My SB* was last evening, but I'm still smiling from it...a friend and I have started a new (to us) ministry at our Parish called Elizabeth Ministry. It's basically women ministering to other women during the childbearing years through all the good and the bad. It is an international ministry in both the US and Canada that started in Appleton, Wisconsin. Anyway, our Parish had a special Healing Mass last evening for family's who had suffered the loss of a child thru miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death, and the Elizabeth Ministry volunteers provided a light reception afterward for everyone. It was just plain beautiful, very emotional, and truly healing. My husband and I have lost a bunch of little ones (7 total), and it's been difficult to say the least, on us as well as the two children we managed to hold on to. (They're both premies who must deal with some of the after-effects of that trauma, but essentially healthy kids, thank God!!) But this new ministry and the lovely Mass were a breath of fresh air!!

I go to my Aunt Lily's house every Saturday night. She's in her 80's, but she's much better company than most of my boyfriends. We have dinner, and then I watch NBA basketball or the Footballer's Wives (UK soap) after I help her with her housework.

Sue, there's a website for it - I think it's just http://www.elizabethministry.com. It's really a lovely ministry and will help enlighten the volunteering folks in what's a helpful thing to say to someone going thru difficult times. I know in our bad times, some folks said some pretty insensitive things, but the worst was when they said nothing...easier to get past the "wrong thing" usually with the thought that they really do mean well, but when you say nothing, it's like saying "your child didn't matter". Generally the ministry suggests that women who have been thru a similar loss or difficulty minister to the person going thru the same type thing now. One who has been there usually is the most sensitive to what to say and not to say.

What a cool thing to do!! I bet she enjoys your company more than the boyfriends do too - I'm certain she appreciates it more! What a sweetheart you are helping her out like that!!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
I have two beautiful things today. Firstly, I somehow managed to fix my computer. I'm still not quite sure what happened or how I fixed it, but for some reason my keyboard stopped working and now it is back to working. I think it had to do with some updates I downloaded from Microsoft earlier today. An added bonus is that things seem to be running more quickly now! Secondly (and more importantly) today was civic election day in British Columbia. I'm so glad to live in a country where I have the right to vote. Those things both seem pretty beautiful to me! Mandy

my something beautiful. My Daughter turns 13 today (my Today mon 21/11) She is beautiful and I love her. She had her tonsils out on Friday.
My other SB was that I got tickets to the Russell Crowe show here in town and hopefully Alan will be there. It seems that the only times he won't be with the band is during the Christmas holidays. I would love to be home in Newfoundland for Christmas as well.
hmmm If Alan is taking Russell's jet home don't ya think we could catch a ride. lol
That would be a miracle of Beauty
