Robin, Roald Dahl's books are so full of delightfully yucky characters, it's hard to imagine my not being able to get the kids excited about reading them. You will get to hear them - we're not ready for Prime Time quite yet. Anne

I enjoyed James & The Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, but I think that one of my favourite primary grade reads was Danny Champion of the World. Congratulations Anne!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
yesterday I won second place at a scottish fiddle competition! Im really excited about it since i didnt even place last year, and i beat out the girl who placed 1st last year. YAY!
it's a sb* for me, because it really has boosted my confidence as a player, i get REALLY BAD performance anxiety. after the competition, mom and i were shopping at some of the stands, and we ran into the judge. he asked if i was nervous while playing, and i responded "YES!!" He replied that he noticed that after i finished i was shaking. which i was. a lot.
getting in front of people to just say something gets my heart a flutter, but playing makes me feel ill, and anxious, and occasionally i will see spots, but basically i feel all kinds of uncomfortable.
yesterday was great, because i really took a step past my fears, and proved to myself that it's ALL right to put yourself out there.

it's not so bad. **before you get mad at someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Because then you will be a mile away, and you will have their shoes**

congrats, Paula! A little nervousness before you perform gives you an edge I think. Anne

Paula that pic (and any from your NY gig) belong in the Walk on the Moon thread!

Everyone who contributes to the 'Children with disabilities' thread are SB for me. The thread has made it to 100 pages and the support and friendship there has been amazing. Thanks everyone.

My sb* is the amazing spring we've been having. Everything is in bloom - EARLY - and it has just been gorgeous My little cherry trees have more blossoms than last year; we might actually get a few cherries this year!! The deer and rabbits DIDN'T manage to kill everything off, the way they did last year. Every day something new is popping up out of the ground. I love it!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
We're having a Mother's Day Tea in our class tomorrow. For two weeks the kids have been listening to 'Dance With Me Daily" by the Barra MacNeils- at nap - mostly. Last week one of them said "this makes me think of my mommy". They started calling it "The Mommy Song" Then the class decided they should Dance with their Moms at the Tea to this song. Who am i to say NO to THAT request??? !!!! Today a 4 year old asked, "Ms Helen, can we sing it to our Moms too?" I asked if they thought they knew the words, and I let them have a go at it. OH MY GOODNESS! It was SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL! Their little voices sounded like a chorus of Angels and i was amazed at how much of the lyrics they'd picked up. We practiced and by the end of the day, they had the song down! (goes to show what you can learn in your sleep!) My assistant, Sue and I were a litle choked up - it was amazing. 3 and 4 year olds singing THAT song, for their Moms...with so much feeling. When i asked them what they thought some of the words meant, one little guy said "when they say "keep me inside you, let me blossom in your soul", that means Mommy will love me for ever and ever"
Helen I'm goin' Straight to Hell-On-Wheels!

What a beautiful story Helen! I bet when the Moms come in for the Tea there won't be a dry eye in the house.

Helen, When you're finished your own personal Mother's Day celebrating, please tell us about the tea. Anne
