Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

I like this as a thread idea, it's so nice to see something where people ACTIVELY look for something positive Yes

Mine for the day is a little different, since it's not something that is going to happen TO me, but is something I get to be part of:

Yesterday American Cancer Society kicked off one of their biggest fund-raisers of the year, Daffodil Days. The idea is people buy bunches of daffodils for $8, or other flower related items (locally we have a chocolatier that makes custom choco-lollipops and Boyd's bears has designed  a special ACS bear) and the money goed to help fight and cure cancer.

I work with a young man who has special needs. The idea of my "9-5" job with him is that I expose him to the community through various activities. This week one of our activites is going to be delivering these flowers and things to folks that ordered them. It will be nice for him, since he likes to "meet" new people and it's something new for us to do. It will be nice for me because I've been extremely lucky... I have a very large family and cancer has only touched two of us (an aunt by marriage and a great-uncle by marriage). Sadly, they lost their fight, but this is a chance to try and make sure that others will win theirs.

So, if you guys have a spare few dollars lying around, please call you local cancer society and order some daffodils, they're really kinda pretty and they'll help a hell of a lot of people.

    Cheers Angel

You are quite welcome I'm sure, Helen!

My SB* is Stephen Colbert who issued a challenge to his followers last week I think to support the Pennsylvania Primary by contributing money funding projects for schools in the Donors Choice program (in case you'd like to contribute something, anything...). I have two proposals there and one was completely funded by some kind soul! She or He bought 15 capos for my guitars that the Little Kids Rock program donated to us. Woohoo!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB*s today are the local democrats and the PartyLite company (yes, the candle people).  The democrats have pulled a scheduled dinner of theirs from the America's Center in support of the three unions who just got locked out of the building, and PartyLite, who are supposed to be bringing their multi-million dollar national convention to the center this summer sent notice that if they're not able to have the help of these three unions, they're simply not coming.

To fill in, the CVC (convention and visitors commission) announced on monday that the electricians union, the projectionists union and the stagehands union (of which I am a part) were being locked out of the entire complex.  This is a big hit for our employment opportunities.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Ernest Borgnine is my SB* today. He lives just on the other side of the park across the street from my house. He frequents the Wawa convenience store where I get my coffee each morning. I have never seen him there, but the cashier, whose name is Norma, has become friends with him because of her outgoing personality.

Everyone loves Norma! She is 75 years old with silver white hair and a LARGE personality. She dresses up each holiday, calls customers by their names or nicknames (she calls me "teach" and she calls Vic, "Romeo" 'cause he buys me coffee some mornings or vice versa). At any rate, she fell ill and is in the hospital. When I went to visit her the other night, she told me that Ernest Borgnine had called her in the hospital and wished her a speedy recovery.

Here, the manager of the Wawa called his press agent and sent him a copy of the newspaper article which featured Norma and Ernest Borginine in the fall. The press agent called Ernest and the rest is history.

I guess I should also add the Wawa staff to the SB* list as they have assured her that they will hold her spot for her return. God bless them as well as Norma who underwent open heart surgery today.

Okay - Norma, Ernest and the Wawa gang are my SB*

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB is - thyroid pills.  Only 2 weeks in (it's supposed to be 4 until you really notice), and my knees, hip, ankle, and back don't hurt, I'm not being hammered by Female Trouble, and my attitude is MUCH better.  I'm getting more done, and don't feel as overwhelmed by the stuff that piled up while I was stuck in neutral.

Now if only it worked on my budget!  Actually it sort of does - I'm not fishing around for excuses to go home early like I used to, so it's got to pay off eventually.

Oh, and Smudge wants to put in a good word for Newman's Own Chicken and Salmon Organic Cat Food.  It makes him WANT to take his medicine, so it keeps him Beautiful.  I did an online CatAge survey on him, and he's only 4 years older than me in human years - so he's husband material after all! Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My friend Laura is my SB today, and she doesn't know it. I have been a little emotional lately... and I need to get out of the house and have some fun. She invited me out tonight to a club/bar/whatever, and to quote Toby Keith "Weekends here, good God almighty, I'm gonna get drunk and be somebody!".

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB*? Findinng a way to truly make money part time at home!  I've started "taking in sewing" as my side job, and it's great.  I love to sew, people are bringing me stuff steadily, since I set myself a limit of how many items I take in a week and they actually are willing to pay me pretty well!  Imagine doing something you love and getting money for it AND getting to be home at night with your kids while they do their homework and fight over the remote.  It rocks.

My other SB is my mom, whose been the SB many times in my life.  She's getting ready for major surgery in two weeks and is possibly the bravest and best person I know.  She knows I'm nervous about taking care of her, so she's trying to calm ME down and tell me it's going to be fine.  Kinda funny.

My kids are constantly SB*, so I just have to say so.

    Cheers all,

    Kati

P.S. Anne, I'm jealous that you still have Wawa - we used to, but they left Connecticut for some reason.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Good job, Kati!  Not many people figure out how to get paid for doing something they enjoy, and it's cool that your talent's getting a chance to make the world a bit better!

My friend April is starting a business too, and she just got an entrepreneurship award through her college, so she can afford to reserve vendor-table space at some events to show off her pretties.  She does polymer-clay art jewelry and mirrors.

A shout out to my mom, who's heading over to Istanbul with a friend for three weeks of fun and exploration!  She really had to fight for it - the travel agency tried a last-minute scam like they often do on retirees, but she was having none of it.  So now I just hope her luggage doesn't end up in Constantinople

    Testing is over!!!!!!!

    Nuf said!

Kati - Wawa is a Delaware County, PA  institution. I remember the fields of cows along Route 1 in the 70's. They just didn't go over very well in CT, that's why they pulled out. They seem to be doing prety good south of the Mason-Dixon, though.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB* is the fact that the issues with our hijacked credit line seem to have been resolved.  And we should shortly be able to get to that money again and finally get working on the bloody garage project!

Another SB* is that it looks like a really good work opportunity is about to open up for my hubby.  Keeping my fingers crossed that it goes through and that it's going to be as good as it sounds.
