That's awesome, Anne, and thanks for sharing.  Quite an accomplishment; I know how proud you must be!  Hopefully someone filmed it.

Wow!  Maybe now that they see they can pull together, they'll be interested in trying again.  At least until somebody's pretzel money turns out to be in their other jacket, and somebody accuses somebody else of copying, and there's a thunderstorm...

Oh COlumbine! Have you been hiding in my classroom? LOL! Yeah - we'll see if we can do what the play suggests - "Believe in Yourself!"

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB*:  believe what you want about higher powers, folks,  but by Thursday of this week, my finances were so dismal it wasn't funny. I was basically in a position of "God, if you can find a way to keep me from having to beg at the Bank of Mom, I'm up for it".  I lost my child support again a week before Christmas and stuff has been getting tighter and tighter.  Anyway, I check my bank account on Friday morning to make sure my paycheck, which was about to become the stretchiest thing ever, was okay in my account.  Lo and behold, my income tax refund was in, 2 weeks early!  Tuition, car and insurance payments are now up to date and I even had something left over to get a new cell phone that uses mp3's as ringtones!  Motorola Q, in case anyone's interested - I was finally able to set up  new cell line I can use to start a new side business.  I put ads in the local town papers to do sewing/alterations for people - it's worth a shot, I've made money doing it before, so I feel a little energized right now!

    Cheers all!

My SB today is my oldest friend who said, "Back to work with me. Chatting with you is much too delicious. I'll wait for later." Wow. What a beautiful comment. Appreciation is a beautiful thing. Friendship is delicious...

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

I concur, chatting with you is delicious.

My SB may seem mundane but it really is SB for me.  And that's this:  Two weeks ago, I finally drew up a budget for the first time in my life.  I was just SO SICK of having a week of month left at the end of our money, of grocery shopping with no more than a vague sense of how much I could afford, of borrowing money again and again and again, just to get by.  So it's only been two weeks, and already we are a little under budget, so I could indulge a bit in some goodies, AND we have a full tank of gas in the car, enough groceries to last until payday, at least a months worth of furnace oil, enough firewood to last until tommorrow at least (if not longer) and the money in my pocket to buy more tomorrow.

PLUS I just redid my taxes and fixed a couple of mistakes, and it means fully $1000 more back than I thought, and I still haven't figured in my receipts for donations to the church and the kids baseball and swimming lessons...

I can't tell you how GREAT it feels not to worry about money every minute of every day!  We still don't have alot to play with, but at least I know what we've got and where it's going when.  That is, for me, Something Beautiful.

    My kids are my SB*.

I heard from every one of them on my birthday. No mean feat considering they are widely flung. Karen made me dinner, Marcus called from the West Coast in-between classes, Heather dropped over with her significant other (but I wasn';t home). They dropped off a card and she called me later. Nick called me - he's been incognito for a few months and we actually had a conversation - something which didn't occur for years, not so long ago. I was a happy camper!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My kids wrote some cool Pi Poems for Pi Day. We did poems that had words on each line that represented the numbers in Pi. 3.14 would look like a 3-word line, a 1-word line and a 4-word line. Here is Joseph's:

    3.141592653589793

    Cake is good.

    Yum!

    I love chocolate cake

    Mmmmm

    Strawberry cake, vanilla and all

Cake for me and you, mom, dad, and sister,

    And brother

All types of cake are good

    I eat cake every day

    Yeah, yeah, yeah

Cake , cake is making me crazy.

I need milk and cookies, juice - all that

Candy fruit, and more. Buy stuff from the store.

Eating cake is not that fun. Help me everyone!

I can’t eat any more cake. No!

I still love cake but I have to change.

    Pie is good…

    Here is Tattyanna's:

    3.14592653

    Favorite ice cream

    Oreo

    Not chocolate, vanilla, strawberry

    Yum!

    Oreo is oh, so sweet

How do they make it? I don’t really know.

    Ice cream

Not cookie’s and cream but Oreo

    I get it from Acme.

    Oh! Ice cream!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Those are great Anne! What age do you teach? I am sure you have mentioned it before but I forget these things. embarrased

My SB also comes from school today. I have been really struggling with my class, listening skills are very low, motivation lacking blah blah blah.... But today we had an art day, and they created the most wonderful charcoal pictures of ships, I never realised that I had such talented kids in the class. And it was lovely that some of the most creative pictures were produced by the kids whose reading and writing skills are not so good- it was great that they got to excel at something for a change!

Oh and also one of those kids that usually sits staring off into space has been listening carefully, answering questions and made a really insightful contribution to discussion- I told his mum after school and she was so pleased. Smiles

This song is so beautiful it makes me teary, inspired by Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now", written and sung by Dave Carroll.

    Now.

    http://groups.imeem.com/IHJMZj4z/music/c29Wu5tP/dave_carroll_now/

When there's no way out there's still a way through...

Cause now's all there is, so peaceful and still

And now you don't worry 'bout what's happened or what will

Cause now never ends, and now's never been

And all of your answers are waiting for you here ... now...

You have to sign in to IMEEM to hear the whole song, so I'll try to put this up on YouTube this weekend. It's so gorgeous. So beautiful.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Columbine can't sign in to the OKP for some reason her computer hasn't shared with her yet, but she asked me to forward this to everyone here.

The benefit for my friend Paisley who got hit by the truck was a HUGE
success!  I don't know exactly how much we raised yet, but we had a
full house, heaps of tempting loot, and kajillions of winning bidders.
Everyone had a great time - including Paisley, who was there, not in
a wheelchair, not on crutches, but with a CANE.  She's walking with a
CANE, after having both arms, both legs, both hips, and most of her
ribs broken and being in surgery for most of a day.

So you cyclists out there - WEAR YOUR HELMETS!  And use visibility gear!

And you folks who always step up when your friends need a hand - it
adds up somehow.  Math isn't my strong suit, but I've seen it.  Big
    time.

    Love, Columbine

Thank you for posting that, Anne!  I tried tossing my cookies (so to speak) and that appears to have cleared the malfunction.
