Erm...wishing Alan a happy birthday, again! I realized I didn't post it in this thread, only in the "Happy Birthday, Alan!" thread. *slinks away*...but will likely be back later.

Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

(ETA FYI: b/c the discussion above has been edited, this message is no longer in context)

The last thing I want to do is encourage this discussion but I had a couple thoughts on this that may be worth considering.

I really don't see what purpose it serves to call someone out publicly in this way, especially when there's no proof whatsoever. I also don't see how bringing this suspicion to public forum helps anyone in any way. It does seem like some fans may be strangely preoccupied with protecting the band. I keep thinking it's a sort of vigilantism. I don't think it's appropriate for this to be going on.

If the accusations about trespassing are true that's one issue, but it certainly isn't one that gbs.com needs to resolve. It's a matter for those concerned to deal with as they see fit. Obviously if "nothing is being done " there's no issue. I am bothered by the fact that a board member is being accused of something serious without any proof.

Even if there was the smallest cause for concern, I don't see the point in trying to incite the OKP community to "do something" about the off-line behaviour of a member. That's impossible and inappropriate. It just raises unnecessary drama online.

The band members are grown, capable adults with the ability to judge for themselves and take action if someone is being intrusive online or off. They do not need vigilante OKP secret service. sad2

And (name edited out), I'm not giving you flack for your post. I just heartily disagree, and I'm responding with my take on why it's inappropriate to ask or expect gbs.com or its members to get involved in your suspicions. I hope I've done that clearly and respectfully. That was my intention. If I've failed at that I apologize.

Wowsers. And Phoebe calls ME sour.

Okay. I understand that it's not the OKP's job or whatever. I'm just saying that people are nearly ENCOURAGING her behavior around here and if only you knew (you do realize that she's been banned off here before for invading  privacy and just recently posted Sean's genealogical records). But can you HONESTLY say you aren't creeped out by that post? Newfoundland and St. John's are NOT tiny.

Okay, folks, I think this matter should be dealt with by PM. That post did indeed creep me out, but the public forum is not the place to snipe about it.

OK,  Katz and Kittenz....pull in your claws....

I was notified of this post and the reply over the weekend, and was waiting to discuss it with the other members of the team, today, before taking any action - I don't take "rogue moderator" action.

TINA, you did not fail at all, you said it, and you said it well.

It is not GBS.com's place to curtail off-line behaviors.  It is our job to make sure we all play nice while in the OKP.

While the nature of Bonnie's post is understandable (wanting the guys to have their prvacy respected is valid), the content is considered a personal attack against another member.

Can we move past this, knowing that the Mod/Admin team is working on this situation.

In the wise and wonderful words of the King himself:

"You've got to move along....I believe there's Something Beautiful to see, Move along..."

So, now to change the subject entirely....

In "Belong" don'tcha just love how Alan's voice sounds when he sings "but I know where I belong" in the first verse..when he has that sort of moan to his voice?   It makes me go all mushy inside!  Kinda like the version of River Driver off C&P&G....mmmm yummy, growly, moan-y Alan voice~  Sleep

Helen! That can only be a valid form of subject changing if I know which frickin' song you're talking about! Angel

"Belong" is one of the free downloads sent when you order the Pre-sale of Fortune's Favour.

It is a lovely accapella song about leaving Newfoundland and calling one'self "Canadian"  "So I'll cast my leaving shadow and I'll be Canadian, but....(?).... for the hard Rock's loving son.....(?).....I don't know where I am going but I know where I belong"

    Very sweet.

Guess you can guess I didn't pre-order. Angel

Sounds lovely... good topic, too! I always love it when they stick some acapela tunes in.

"So I'll cast my leaving shadow
    And I'll be Canadian,
But distance won't decide what matters
For the hard Rock's loving son
And when I'm thinking of St. John's
I'll bring her closer with a song
    I don't know where I'm going
But I know where I belong."

Beautiful, beautiful song. In fact, so touching and so beautiful that it's hard listening to it more than a couple of times in a row, very emotional. There's something so completely sincere about the way Alan sings it, and I love that it's acapella - makes you focus on the words. Like "It's a parent's right to grieve" - what a striking line.

Ahhhhhhh! I wanna hear *Fortune's Favour* RIGHT NOW, darnit, RIGHT NOW!

That song sounds exquisite - it truly does.  I do hope it's Alan singing lead on "Rocks of Merasheen" because that's a song that I really think suits his voice.  "Molly Malone," on the other hand, I would pay a LOT of money to hear Sean sing.

Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

Chiara - thanks for filling in the rest of the lyrics!  It "sounds" so much better with all the words!

I was so rushed this afternoon - I was on my lunch break and had a million things to do in 60 minutes time - and i could not get all the words off the tip of my tongue and into print!

    It is a lovely song....and a great reason to pre-order Fortune's Favour...

Sadly, tho Chocolady, "Belong" will not be on the disc - but you can get it as a free download if your purchase FF during the pre-sale.

At the Atlantic City show in march they did Rocks of Merasheen for the first time, live.  Sean sang - and it was incredible! (I wasn't there, but a friend sent me a recording of it)
