How does the Coyote get to Cape Breton? Run across the bridge?

I'm convinced the damn things can fly.  They've probably colonized the moon.

Thing is, shooting them just makes the next one have more pups.  They have EXACTLY as many pups as the territory can support; because it's regulated by the food supply.  The only way to get rid of them effectively is insanely expensive (basically, birth-control flavored coyote treats) so nobody wants to take responsibility.

Although I suppose you could drop anvils or pianos on them, run them over with ACME trucks, or blow them up with TNT.  That never seems to work either, though.

As far as I know, they aren't looking to rid themselves of the coyotes (unless it turns out they were rabid), they just want to kill the ones that attacked, so it doesn't matter if the remaining are just encouraged to breed.

The mother of the girl has said that she was a naturalist and would not want to coyotes  wiped out because of this. They had a coyote behaviourist on who said they won't attack a human minding it's own business. He theorized that they were yearlings just learning to hunt and that she probably panicked and in turn, freaked them out.

We have coyotes here in my city. You'll regularly see them crossing the road near wooded areas and the Welland Canal. There's never been an attack to my knowledge. Usually they seem more afraid of us than we are of them. So I agree that the ones involved in that attack probably were young, and possibly hadn't learned to fear humans. The girl might have turned her back and/or ran, which is a big mistake with almost any animal. It's a terrible thing to happen, but in the long run, when you're in the wilderness, you are on the coyotes territory, in their home, and it's a risk you are taking. I would never expect a coyote attack here, but I'm thinking twice about it now and will be more careful and alert when in the woods.

I remember going camping with Girl Guides and a friend and I were lagging behind and got separated. We saw a dog-like creature in the path right ahead. We called it a wolf, but it didn't really look like one, it might have been a coyote. We had enough brains to not scream and run. We stood still for a minute than calmly turned and walked back the way we came & managed to find camp in the process. Who knows, maybe if it wasn't for that dog/wolf/coyote we would have gotten seriously lost in the woods and ended up suffering from exposure.

I wonder how a folk singer tastes, do the accordian players taste any different than the guitar playing kind?

I suspect accordion players would give you gas, Nick. All that air, you know...
