Great Big Sea Show in Glen Ellyn Oct. 3 - Fantastic!

I had never heard of GBS before... just decided to buy a ticket, since the description of the band/music sounded intriguing.  It was fantastic!  I don't have an ounce of Celtic blood, but, that didn't lessen the enjoyment I got from the band's performance.  The whole band are first-rate musicians, singers, and all-around entertainers.  Kudos go out to the lights/sound board people - it was top-notch!  I'm so glad I tried something new that was such a wonderful experience.  I have already bought 3 GBS CDs and am looking forward to when they come to the Glen Ellyn area again.  Just wonderful!

I couldnt belive this show, i was at bloomington the night before and decided last minute to attend this one, and oh my god, it was an awesome show, they did a double set and a double encore that could be defined as a set all together, i love how they sang some of their older music, of the 4 shows ive been to this is the best

I have to agree this was one of the best shows I''ve been to; it was great to hear some of the older stuff. Some of the audience up in the balcony were not really into the show at first, but during the second set they came alive a bit more. Did anyone get a set list? I'd love to see it posted!

Hey Lacrab...  How much of the show did you get on video?  There's a little part of the first set I'd really like to get for my wife, Christine...

    Thanks!

Ah, welcome to the flock, Alphalovfree! You are already officially addicted I see...and it only gets worse!! Smile  Soon you will be road-tripping to various cities and states to get your fix...after many, many shows, I can attest! They are a fantastic group of guys and lots of fun. My 7-year old son was in attendance last night for his first official GBS show and he had a great time too. I will say though that this was their first time in the suburbs - usually they are in the city, so it was a nice treat for me to drive only 20 minutes to this show instead of the usual hike downtown Chicago. Can't wait for St. Paddy's Day of 2010 - they will be back!

    Cheers!

Thanks, Anne.  I agree - it was great to have such a wonderful band like this in Glen Ellyn.  I live in Wheaton and work in Chicago, so, it is not fun to have to also have my fun "in the city".  I have relatives in Bloomington I've alerted to this band, so, I hope they play there again also.  I've already promised to take my niece and her husband the next time they are in Glen Ellyn - I will be keeping my eye out for when they announce the St. Paddy's show!  Karen

Re: Great Big Sea Show in Glen Ellyn Oct. 3 - Fantastic!

i liked when sean played kris' drums.  or when kris was hitting sean's bodhran with one drumstick and his kit with the other.  or when he lost a stick (how did that happen?) and suddenly a drumstick flew from the side of the stage, in a perfect arc, kris caught it without a blink or a reach and jumped right back in.... sean's delightful dance in 'what a night'...  alan making fun of murray for his sweater being 'bruno-ish'...  tugging the sleeve of his sweater while murray sang his verse in scolding wife and cracking himself and murray up.. too many more to mention... great show

black highway, all night ride, watching the towns fall away to the side. clear channel, way down low, coming in loud, my mind let go...

back baby, back in time, i wanna go back when you were mine. -gillian welch
