Great Big Sea is my Something Beautiful this morning. The show last night was so enjoyable, I almost can't describe it. Thanks to GBS for a more-than-wonderful evening. And it was nice to see lots of old friends.

I got Smudge's Magic Medicine Marker (prednisolone) in the mail.  Finally I'll get to see my boy with all of his whiskers, and no scratches or scars or bald spots messing up his fur.  And he just sat there calmly while I rubbed it in his ear, rather than complaining or trying to run away.  Granted, he'd just had quite a feed of roast turkey!

LKR - who provides us with guitars, called up to get the name of our drummer, so they can recommend him for some commercial. Wow! JW will be famous! If you haven't heard him, click here!

My friends who are moving house donated a really nice CD rack to me as I'm in the process of setting up home. It was lovely to see them & catch up. Big Smile

I ran into an old friend that has been on the road traveling for the last two years playing accordion with his band. I invited him and his lady to crash at my place and hang out for a while. I payed him some of Bob's better accordion pieces and he fell in love with the band! I gave him my copy of The Hard and The Easy to listen to in the van and he plans to learn them all!

    More fans converted!

    Peace, Love, and GBS,

I will be at the Edmonds show with my boy! Look for the short super bouncy girl seventh row center next to the giant (6'5") half ogre. Wanna go for drinks before the show? Let me know!

ETA: I just got my ticket to the Wenatchee show! Front row stage Murray! Three shows in three days! OMG SQUEEEEEEEE!!!

28 days until my Great Big Frenzy!

Little Kids Rock is my Something Beautiful today. I was allowed to leave school 45 minutes early today so that I could accompany my wonderful drummer from last year's music group to a photo shoot for a commercial. The LKR people called me to ask if I thought his folks would say yes to the shoot. They did and today,Jimerr, his dad, Vic and I took the drum kit to a town just north of Philadelphia and had the photo shoot. Jimerr was a real trooper and took direction well (his teacher wishes she could say that about his school performance). It was quite the sight to see him among the fog, playing and posing with our drums. This kid really has talent. Here's a link to YouTube so you can hear him play last June. Or here for his best work.. You have to let it load for a bit and then play it.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My Something Beautiful is my son, who was born on October 30. I took my iPod and dock/speaker to the hospital--my husband set it to shuffle on Great Big Sea and nothing else. I wanted to avoid all drugs that I could, so the next six hours (only six! I was so lucky!) were extremely hard. When it got really bad and the "breathing" wasn't helping, I could sing along with Old Brown's Daughter, or Banks of Newfoundland, or Mari Mac, or anything that was on. It helped SO MUCH!! Now the labor coach I hired to help us wants a CD too!

My husband tells me that it was still playing GBS songs when my son was actually born, but unfortunately neither of us noticed which song was on at the time...

We did have a labor nurse who was from Canada, had never heard of GBS, but after my husband told her about them, had the appalling nerve to say "I can't believe you're listening to Newfie music." (I told her to bring it. Good nurse, but not very tactful.)

I wasn't pregnant yet when I went on the Ships 'n' Dip cruise in February. After that, this kid has been to two GBS concerts, one Gaelic Storm show, and a U2 concert, all before being born. Then there was all the music during labor... I can't help associating this wonderful creature who's turned my life upside-down with Great Big Sea. I feel like thanking the b'ys for their "help." LOL!

And I hope all this helps him grow up with good taste in music. :)

What a wonderfu story! You were lucky to have that support. Tell the nurse to open her mind to other possibilities.  Congrats!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Today is my Mom's 61'st birthday, normally I wouldn't be a good daughter announcing that to the world but just over two years ago (about two months after her first GBS concert, front row yes I am a good daughter) she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. I don't want to even think about the usual death sentence that goes along with that diagnosis but thanks to an amazing doctor (who caught a small tumor with no symptoms) and the John's Hopkins Cancer center among many other angels that have touched our lives in the last few years my mom is alive and cancer free. She just celebrated her 2 year mark, October 24. I am hoping to be able to celebrate many more birthday's with my amazing mom.

    Oh Ann!

That's wonderful! Indded SOmething Beautiful. My BIL was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and still managed to ast 1 1/2 years because he was in such great shape to begin with. We treasured the moments we had with him but he died way too young - at age 45. Give your Mom and extra hug from me.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Such great stories! I didn't have such a beautiful day (My roommate put in his twenty day notice, the Habs lost and my split pea soup burned) But reading about others great days makes me happy.

Sigh, I wish i had someone to hug.

    Heres to a better tomorrow,

    Loula

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Life is great, for  many people, I am finding lately that if you put a positive spin on this crazy life, it does help a "great big" deal!

A few days ago I decidied to bite the $ bullet so to speak and pick up all the vitamins and such that should be taken to remain happy and healthy( VIT D , C ,B multi, Omega Fishy Oil, ect.) and that is not cheap.  Then I check my weeks old Lotto MAX ticket and won the price of all my new healty supplies plus $14 dollars.  Not enough to retire on mind you but tha was sure beautiful thing that helped me to think more healty and positive!

Have a Great Big Day and smile they are contageiousSmile
