    Donkey riding?

My sister and I made it a goal of ours to visit all of the places mentioned in Donkey Riding, but can't figure out which Cape Horn the song is referring to. Is there a Cape Horn somewhere in the Maritimes? Thanks!

Far as I know, it's the Cape Horn at the tip of South America.

I thought the placenames changed depending on the location of the concert, so that could be a lofty goal.

    Donkey Riding"

    [Chorus:]

Way hey and away we go
    Donkey riding, donkey riding
Way hey and away we go
    Ridin' on a donkey.

    Was you ever in Quebec
    Launchin' timber on the deck?
Where ya break yer bleedin' neck
    Ridin' on a donkey!

    [Chorus]

Was you ever 'round Cape Horn
    Where the weather's never warm?
Wished to God you'd never been born
    Ridin' on a donkey.

    [Chorus]

    Was you ever in Miramichi
Where ye tie up to a tree,
An' the girls sit on yer knee?
    Ridin' on a donkey

    [Chorus]

Was you ever in Fortune Bay
See the girls all shout, "Hooray!"?
"Here comes dad with ten weeks pay
    Riding on a donkey."

    [Chorus]

    Was you ever in London-town
See the King he does come down?
See the King in his golden crown
    Riding on a donkey

    Re: Donkey riding?

As with many folk songs and shanties there are different versions, some just a line or two different, some distant cousins. I know I have seen the lyrics "Was you ever in Mobile Bay, Screwing (Loading) Cotton all the day..."

Cape Horn is The Southern Tip of South America, surrounded notoriously cold & treacherous waters the whaling fleets had to brave to get to the Pacific hunting grounds.

Cape Horn is in Southern Chile and is very very very far south.

    Climate

The climate in the region is generally cool, owing to the southern latitude. There are no weather stations in the group of islands including Cape Horn; however, a study in 1882–1883 found an annual rainfall of 1,357 millimetres (53.42 in), with an average annual temperature of 5.2 °C (41.4 °F). Winds were reported to average 30 kilometres per hour (19 mph), with squalls of over 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) occurring in all seasons.[9]

I have seen that in the sheltered copses the ground is dry and mixed with a arcid soil very pourus, and muti colored, if you have enough shelter black grapes can be grown there and produce great hardy wines. The senery seems to be fantastic, and I'd love to ride along the mountain passes in a good week of weather. I'd not want the donkey ass after affect though.
