    Pre-sales...what's the rush?

I wholeheartedly am grateful that the site offers pre-sale tickets for the shows and thank y'all for doing so...so please bear in mind that this question is asked in kindness and good faith...

...but honestly, what is the rush with pre-sales of late?

Why are we getting notified of pre-sales less than 24 hours before they occur?  My notification for the Chicago presale occuring today did not arrive in my inbox until 11pm CDT last night and the sale is this morning at 10 am.  If I hadn't gotten the heads up from another fan last night, I wouldn't have known about this sale until after it had already began.

It used to be that pre-sales take place a few days after the email went out (and sometimes even as much as a week or more).  Lately, it's less than a day's notice.  I may check my email and the boards often enough that' I've luckily not missed out on an important notice like this, but others don't or can't.  The shows are usually months off from the date of the sale and y'all don't often even have the actual tickets from the venue yet for shipping...so honestly, why rush?

Please, if it is at all possible, give us more of a heads up for future pre-sales...2-3 days usually suffices, but a week would be great...

Again, thanks for running the pre-sales.  They are appreciated and I personally feel y'all do a great job running them, but if you could take this suggestion into consideration I expect it would ease the frustration of more than a few fans.

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

I agree too. Even doing pre-sale so far in advance of the actual concert date I find hard to deal with. I don't know what I'll be doing 6 months from now, it's even harder when I have 12 hours to decide.

I imagine they do it to keep people who will buy up as many tickets as possible and sell them later from finding out in time.

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

Whenever possible we do try to give as much notice as possible about upcoming presales - especially when they are in popular markets or there are several presales going on at once.

We're not the only people who work on the scheduling. Show announcements, presale and public sales, show dates are decided on by a number of people. Show announcements and public sales are always tied together (and generally happen within a week of each other) and we have the window in between to work with for our presales. The GreatBigSea.com newsletter is often the first place a show is announced, too.

I do understand the frustration. It can be hard to plan in advance especially in a short time frame. I promise that we'll keep working on this and get you the info you need as early as we possibly can given the timeframe we have to work with.

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

Thanks Nico for the answer. Smile  I didn't want to come across as whiney/b*tchy, but had to bring up the issue because it has become harder of late to catch presales on time and I knew of several fans who were getting frustrated.   I know you guys work hard and have many unseen factors to contend with and am glad you all are trying to make it as easy as possible for us fans.  It's nice to be able to go to one site, point, click, and buy tickets often ahead of the public from a secure/trustworthy site.

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

Quite frankly this has been typical of this band, or perhaps the management of this band. They sometimes seem to be next to last to know when and where they play. Then  last to know is folks who frequent this site. In terms of posting tour dates the venues and third party sites typicaly have the booking long before it gets to the GBS pages. It does not surprise me the Pre-Sale is offten on the wrong foot as well.

    I like em anyways!

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

The band, management and the site will not announce a show until all the details are confirmed and finalized. Sites like Pollstar do not wait for the final confirmation before posting dates. We wait because we don't want to advertise a date that might not exist or where the details change. It leads to confusion and we think it's unfair to the fans.

This has come up a lot, so it's always at the forefront when working on schedules for presales and announcements. We always aim for as much notice as possible, but please keep in mind that there are a lot of parties involved in these decisions. For a bit more info, you can read my post earlier in the thread.

If you have more questions, post them here, send me a PM or e-mail us.

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

I understand being cautious, and I realize there are logistical problems in getting things posted, but there have been so many cases where the venues have the date posted long before we see it on the site. I don't think the Venues want to, or generally do post unconfirmed dates either.  This lag has been the case for years and they are not just isolated incidents. As a true fan have been forced over time just come to the realization it is not a huge priority for the band/site/management....and yes I'm pretty much over it,  it is just the way it is. However if I get shut out of a show as a result, well then I'd be more than a little POed.

Honestley GBS could be doing a better job on this, they just dont seem to care to do so.

    Re: Pre-sales...what's the rush?

    Valid points on both sides.

In this case, so far, there seems to be more of an interest in explaining why the situation is as it is rather than attempting to improve it. I agree with Nick that communication could definitely be improved in a number of areas.

On the other hand, I don't expect it.

On the other hand, that's not a good indication.

I don't, however, agree with Nick in suggesting that the band and management don't care.

On the other hand, thank god Nick speaks up. Lots of fans discuss these issues and complain outside gbs.com and don't have the courage or inclination to bring it to the table here.

So, after about 10 hours, I figured it didnt go through. Went to the venue , baught two tix. 2 Weeks later I got my tix from the metro. 3 Weeks later I got my tix from GBS. The GBS ones cost me 10 $ more.
