    Lisa,

That's wonderful news for the little guy! And thanks for taking the time to recognise the teachers. Smile

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

my junior year is in its last moments, stolen time after completed finals always finds me in the orchestra room. this morning we had already signed the year books, and the photos had been taken. though we all just sat their and said nothing, too afraid to ruin these last hours.

this is the first year that i have been close with seniors, and know i know why i see kids crying the halls. I know my friends will come back and visit, we will have summers. But it's not the same as having them burst into Hertzler hall every morning, "you'll never guess what new lick i came up with last night!"

My SB* is the seniors who are graduating this year. These friends are so dear to me, they took taken me under their wing when school or just teenager-dom in general seemed too much. Im having a barbeque this friday with them all, and while we all say nothing will change, the transformations are already under way.

i wish them success and happiness in their newfound pursuits at college, i hope they find the same love and laughter i think we underclassmen reciprocated in high school.

My Someting Beautiful is Carol and Lisa, who drove us home from the Mall when my car wouldn't start today. Karen and I had gone to DSW shoe store - she for shoes and me for the air conditioning. It's about 15 miles from my home. When Carol heard Karen ask to use the store's phone to call someone to pick us up, she volunteered Lisa (her daughter) to drive us all the way home. WHat a godsend these two were! Two angels in the parking lot! The heat index was 102F today and I was not relishing waiting 4 hours for Vic to get home and then still have to come get us. Lisa and Carol - something beautiful!

My SB is having a get together with my high school chorus teacher (and my favorite teacher) last night.  Hadn't seen him in 30 years!! So cool sitting around a friend's backyard pool and talking about the good ole days.  Our teacher was in awe of how many of us showed up for the occasion after so long.  He left our school after 3 years and moved out of the area and was making a pit stop in Va. on the way to Buffalo.  He made such an impact on our lives and we finally got a chance to thank him.  I am on cloud nine still!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB* this week is a lucky find - a donation to one of the charities I work for.   I offered £40 for it, and they accepted, and I'm now the proud owner of this:

Italian made bowlback mandolin, made sometime in the late 1800s, somewhere near the Medici's palace in Florence Big Smile   Now I have to get it to a luthier to repair the crack along the top, and find someone to teach me how to play it......

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

We got our PSSA (State Reading and Math and Writing test) results back today. My class - who began the year 1 - 2 levels behind in reading and math - got 6 Proficients in Math and one Advanced, 11 Basic or Below, 4 Proficients in Reading and 14 Basic and Below, and 6 Proficients in Writing, 13 Basic and NONE Below Basic. So even though the majority of them scored Below Basic, I didn't expect anyone to be Proficient. THAT is Something Beautiful!

My SB* for this morning is a good friend in Deer Lake. We just recentley re-connected and she's just awesome. She just invited me to stay with her in December when I'm in Nfld and she basically offered me to be my tourguide. She'd even come to St. John's just to get me from the airport... I'm speechless!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

    i have 1 and 1/2 sb* today.

after a lame-ish start to my summer, a good guy friend of mine called me last night, and we went bowling. despite the fact that i bowled a 56 my first game in 4 years (I later improved!) i had a blast being with friends. good company is always a cure for the summertime blues, and therfore my sb*

my half sb* is that i leave saturday for new orleans with my friend's church for habitat for humanity. last year was the most incredible experience, the kind that makes you simultaneously cry and laugh. it was a soul-enriching blast of fun, and i can't wait to do it all over again next week in new orleans, a city i know needs our help. since we haven't actually left yet, and waiting to go is slightly painful (TWO DAYS!) it's 1/2 a sb* for now. hope summer finds you all well, and prayers for our journey next week are appreciated ;)

My SB* today was just being here. Some days that is enough, you know?

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Having an easy move and a drama-free (or at least drama-light) household to live in for the next couple of weeks.  There was a big upheaval where I had been staying, and I had to find a new place in a hurry.  My good friend and her boyfriend have generously taken me and my little cat in, even though they don't have much space themselves, and their hospitality has just blown me away.  And my little cat adjusted to the new place almost immediately, so much so that she opted to sleep with Liz and Joe last night instead of with me!  I can sleep at night and I can breathe a whole lot easier in the day because Tessa and I have a good home with friends who love us.  Truly Something Beautiful*!
