Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My mom is my SB* today... as most of you already know she is raising two of her Great Nephews... they are 11 and 7 boys... these boys were taken out of their foster home and brought into my moms home... the oldest has been with my mom for just about a year and the youngest since October... they were apprehended from their parents a few years back.... they are severly delayed in schooling... the youngest in grade one and does not even know his ABC's or count to 20 solo... The one in grade 5 can't read past a grade one level... she has a huge task ahead of her...

She has five boys there after school... (she has my boys, her boys plus a day home boy) and manages perfect... so perfect that my baby NEVER wants to come home... lol...

My mom's boys in the past few months have settled... sorta... but her youngest can now recite his ABC and the oldest can "read" abit better... she has to spend an hour or so everynight with them to get them A) on a schedule and B) to get them in the routine of school work before play time... the foster home did not have a "routine" in effect... and well these boys didn't have the greatest life to start with... But my mom is doing her best... and has a huge task ahead of her... and rasing children when all hers are grown and out of the house... she should be enjoying her life without the responsibility of children... but she is not... she saw a need and her heart was big enough for them... I do love her...

Hey, Helen - remember those Colorado columbine seeds you gave me?  Well, I started them in the house last year, and put the seedlings in the ultra-shady front yard, and hoped for the best.  Well - THEY'RE BACK UP!  Barring anything really weird happening, I'll have bobbing bundles of blue-and-white beauty to look at every day!

    Love, Columbine

My SB* is my little guitar group. I transposed chords to Ordinary Day so they could play is more easily and they are doing so well with it! They are thrilled that they can play a song they know how to sing. I am thrilled they love the GBS song. They CAN do it - they just thought it was hard. Go us!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB* is that Mom made it through her "girly surgery", as she called it, with flying colors.  She's already home from the hospital and will have 8 weeks to sit on the porch and stare at the sea.  All went really well and the doctor was great and we're just happy to have her home.  My daughter stayed with me while Mom was in surgery on Tuesday for 3 1/2 hours and was a true beacon of light - charmed the pants off of every volunteer in the place!

    Cheers to all,

    Kati

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Donorschoose.org is my SB* today. I awoke, dressed and went to check email before going to work to find that my project for getting class sets of Roald Dahl books was totally funded! Thanks to Stephen Colbert and his pushing the organization, some generous people have contributed money for me to do this. I cannot say enough in thanks.

I got my first professional recording contract today. I recorded a 30 second jingle for a tv ad. Let's hope this one will bring many other contracts.

Anne- Road Dahl was Emma's favorite author when she was younger.  That's so awesome.  Would love to hear your kids sing and play Ordinary Day (hint, hint).
