Nico --To clarify -- I am in no way blaming you or the OKP staff BUT I have to tell you that announcement leaves a real bad taste in my mouth and I am disappointed. Due to work scedule, I set aside tonight to send them in. Not happy about this at all!  A deadline is a deadline, which I specifically asked about. Not very nice of them to tell you one thing and then do another -- puts you in a bad position.

While the announcement is disappointing news, I think that it's important to remember that this was not the OKP's doing, but rather that of the video directors.  Additionally, when it was first announced, they did ask for them "ASAP".

Having dealt with many time-senstive issues in my education and professional career, it has been more than apparent that timelines can and do get changed. When they get changed without prior notice, it causes confusion and frustration.  I think that the latter applies here.  It is very unfortunate that the production company decided to change the end date without prior knowledge as not does it only cause such frustration, it causes people and organizations to be viewed in a less than favourable light, regardless of involvment or just passing the message along.  Although it's human nature to express frustration, it's not fair that Nicopop the messenger is being shot because of something that was out of her control.

Um...wow?  That's an unexpected turn of events.  I turned mine in late Sunday night, but I feel for those of you who thought you had until Wednesday.    Given that people could submit up to 5 photos, it's no wonder they got a bit overwhelmed...there are a lot of GBS fans, don'tchya know.

Just signed in after I finally made my decision on my favourite three pics. These news are really disappointing I admit, because like others I worked three evenings to sort out pics and scanned some from the pre-digital-camera-times. I think it would just have been fair to stay with the announced deadline - even if the choices had already been made - simply to keep us late ones from this disappointment.

But this overwhelmig amout of photos, that has been send out, is excactly how I pictured this ... and I'm kind of pround to be a member of such a great fan community! And I'm still very happy about the little journey I made through my last 20 years ...

I tend to agree with a lot of the people here. I had assumed a deadline was a deadline.  I spent several hours searching through thousands (seriously, thousands) of our pictures looking for a specific few, to send them through before the deadline expired.  And to my surprise, my email bounced right back!  While I understand the point that they (the directors) were getting overwhelmed, it still does leave a sour taste in the mouth of the people that do matter the most in this type of industry, THE FANS!

People agree with you. They may not be saying it openly in the OKP because they don't want to appear to be blaming the band or gbs.com in any way, but they're pissed.

It does reflect badly on the band, which is a huge shame. THE BAND DESERVES BETTER THIRD PARTY INVOLVEMENT THAN THIS and hopefully this feedback is not falling on deaf ears.

Three fan-involvement events over the past two years have left a sour taste in the mouth because the third-party people involved either don't troubleshoot/post the rules at the outset, don't answer posts & emails and clear up questions and problems when issues arise, or (in this case) don't know the fan base, make very bad business & PR decisions like this one. Most importantly, none of these people realize this reflects badly on the band, or they simply don't care. 

As I said (with MUCH restraint last night--gone out the window this morning) I don't get this. There are DOZENS of other ways this could've been handled, but whatever. As usual I'm one of the ones speaking out, b/c frankly I don't give a damn if they choose my photos or not...again another fan-involvement project gone awry.

I think it's important to remember that at least Alan, Bob and Sean had nothing to do with this amateurish decision. 

And, that's all I have to say about that.

I agree.

This is a slap in the face to people who have laboured over exactly which of their most important private moment, their small steps and their giant leaps to share with the world. 

I do not blame the band in nay way, but their production company has shown a total lack of consideration to the fans and to the band. They have acted dishonorably.  Sure they may have had more than enough material, but they should honor their deadline and give all submissions consideration. 

There is a lot more I want to say on this topic, but am really trying to practice self-moderation.

I am really dissapointed.

We are extremely grateful for all of the beautiful photos and stories that we've seen and read over the past week. It has been truly inspirational and we thank you!! For the record, while I appreciate the decision to allow more entries because I hadn't gotten around to sending in my own submission, the change in deadline didn't reflect badly on GBS in my eyes.  On the contrary.  Business make this decision all the time.  The goal was to get what was needed for the video and to the people who that goal was paramount, once it was met all that needed to be done was done and they were ready to move ahead with getting the video completed and out for viewing.  The people who cared more about trying to get their own photos in the video did not agree.  It's clear who wins this round.  Kudos to the video producers for doing what they had to do in the best interests of their client.

What the video producers did doesn't reflect badlly on Great Big Sea in my eyes.  The complaining of GBS fans would be way more likely to do that, if I didn't realize how unfair that would be to the band.

The new single sounds great, boys.
