    Re: NEW FEATURE: Bob's Soundtrack

What a great story.  Thanks to the Barra MacNeils for inspiring Bob and helping lead to Great Big Sea!  I was excited to see Bob write about them, because Racket in the Attic is the next CD on my list of albums I'm planning to buy.

I first heard the Barras on the Chieftains' Fire in the Kitchen album, which I bought because GBS is on it.  Bob's story about his gratitude to the Barra MacNeils just reminds me of how grateful I am to GBS, for their music and the joy it brings into my life and for all the great bands I've found since I started listening to GBS and hanging out at the OKP.  (not that any one of them compares to GBS)

I bet lots of people have stories about GBS like Bob's about the Barra MacNeils.

    Love, love, love the BArras!

And I love love love that song - Rattlin' Roarin' WIllie. I cannot tell you how it warms my heart to hear it and see Bob talking about it. What a good choice for the SOundtracks. I wonder if he likes the Barras version of Queen of Argyle as much as I do? Go Bob! Cape Breton music RULES!

MAN!  I really felt like I was at that party!  Beer in one hand, spoon whacking passing furniture in the other, singing at the top of my lungs to the time of the whirling of the room.

Anybody else have Fine Crowd's "Clean Up After The Time" on your iTunes?  Ick!

    Thank God for Barra MacNeils!!!

Bob's journal is usually much more business-oriented and less amusing than Alan's journal, but I've got to say that that sure was a joy to read.  Thinking about what might have been is frightening, especially when you consider what could have happened to our dear, lovely Bob.

I hope I have an epiphany like that someday.  I have all these high hopes but something always seems to get in the way.Sad

I totally understand what Bob would have felt like if he hadn't gotten into music professionally. I need to find some time to really practice my musical skills, and see about getting to a ceili sometime (the monthly one I know of is at the same time as something else I'm doing right now...)

    Re: NEW FEATURE: Bob's Soundtrack

I totally just realized that any gbs.com member can comment on Bob's entries right thereon the journal page.  I saw the one Anne left and at the bottom of the page it asked if I wanted to comment.  WHA???? Me??  Little old me?? Right there in the open? What is this computer thinking?  That I want Bob to read what I write??  (not that he would)  I suppose if I were really excited about something there and I just couldn't let something go unsaid, I may be able to screw up enough courage to write a sentence or two... (and don't anyone say anything about me posting on the board, because I can actually see the little protective forcefield that goes up around the kitchen that is absent on Bobby's Soundtrack page and I'm blathering and not making much sense again - maybe this post should be deleted as a bad idea that was puked out of my head before I was done digesting it)

Hats off to those brave enough to write to him. (Me --->embarrased)

Yup. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Once there all you have to do is make the choice that changes your life. That's an awesome story.

Trouble is, you never know what choice will change your life in what way... but wow, it is mind-boggling to think about.

The brand new SOundtracks is a great learning experience for me. I know nothing about producers and making an album. I sure learned something today. And I do agree wth him about Shanneyganock - their live show is much better than their CDs. I don't have the new one yet, but I've heard some tracks from it. Sounds pretty good to me. Weird what glam rock influences can make on a trad album.

How true. 'Course I think that's the beauty of choice. If you don't like what you get...choose again...and again...and again.

Wow.  It's been a while since I've been here.  I couldn't even remember how to sign in!  Password?  What password?

Anyway, I haven't gotten through all the Soundtracks - I think there are about 4 there that I haven't read yet.  Is Bob regretting his career choice?  I guess I should go to the soundtrack page and read all about it.  Then I can comment with a shadow of intelligence.

    Has Heidi been around here?

Hi Sandra!  Long time, no chat :o)

No, I don't think Bob is regretting his career choice.  Keep reading!

I saw somewhere that Heidi is across the pond for a couple weeks and has been uncommonly quiet in the forums.  ;-)  I think I saw that at the tank.

Well, that pretty much sums up the new one. Bob does read the comments, now that he knows that they work! Looking at the comments so far, it looks like most people feel the blog is a great way to learn about new music.

***Note to everyone, that comment that he was confused about was NOT posted by me, but someone else on the board with a similar enough name that it looks like the two were melded into one. ***

I see... I thought it was you, too, though I wondered 'cause the name was spelled differently.  I hope no one has posted to ask you about bosoms, but now I'm curious as to what was posted, and by whom.  *scuttles to Bob's Soundtrack to investigate the "Cornershop" postings*

    later...

A-Ha!!  It was Rebekah!  I think she was agreeing with his post as a whole, not just his 'bosom' reference...
